I’ve been going for 16 years. It’s okay. As time goes on, the prices increase along with the pretentiousness of the owners and some(thought not ALL) of the staff. For heaven’s sake, they call it «The M» now and sell art that preschoolers I teach could make to the tune of $ 600-$ 7,000! The featured films cater to the tourists: they skip out on popular titles often to play more«cultured» films. We went two weeks ago, on a Sunday, because they finally had something we had heard of. Well, the guy in the box office was INCREDIBLY rude, but he’s rude EVERYTIME we’re there, and not just to us… so nothing personal! Probably just generically unpleasant. The ticket prices are now $ 11 even during matinée hours! The snacks/sodas are still the same price… and the concession staff are almost always very friendly teens! The seats… for $ 11 a ticket and with all the pretentious upgrades, you’d think the seats would accommodate people comfortably taller than 5’5! I’m 5’11 and average weight… it’s a tight fit for me! All in all… it’s not bad, but it’s not as great as the owners seem to think!

Our absolute favorite theatre… it is always clean, friendly staff and now the concession stand has even more great stuff… artisan candies and chocolates… and the best popcorn anywhere!!!

We’ve been going here for years & it’s always been a great experience. Blockbusters & indie flicks alike are played here. 3 theaters with a gallery upstairs. Bigger movies like Hunger Games will get packed, being it’s the only theater for like 35 miles… So arrive early for those or buy tix online ahead of time through their website. They tend to pull indie flicks fast so if you have your eye on one, GO! If you live in Sharon, where else are you going to go? Torrington? No thanks! Moviehouse is clean, friendly and has Harney & Sons Coconut Water… Nuff said. If you want dinner before, I recommend 52 Main a few doors away. Excellent tapas & outstanding martinis.

Not a bad place. Theatres are small & intimate but they show arthouse films that don’t normally place in big multiplexes so the size of the theatre is just right.

Hats off to you for carrying independent art films! Keep on keeping on.

A great movie house. Shows current blockbusters as well as interesting documentaries. Recent shows have included the 50th anniversary screening of Lawrence of Arabia, live HD performances of the Metropolitan Opera, and a book signing by Dana Cowin, editor of Food and Wine magazine. She was quite charming, by the way!

High ticket prices for an outdated theater. I see many of our local townspeople driving as far as Poughkeepsie to catch a flick. We are in the digital age. Time for some upgrades.

In the area where I grew up, options for viewing movies have always been limited. You can drive 30 to 45 minutes to the Cinerom Theaters in Winsted or Torrington, sitting in a theater with 18 year old boys reeking of body odor, weed, and Axe Body Spray, making out with their severely underaged girlfriends. The theater rooms themselves smell like mold, and the sticky stuff on the floor? I’ve never entirely been convinced it’s any sort of food product. The movies themselves? Huge blockbusters and stuff that makes my head hurt. Thank goodness for The Moviehouse! This small theater in the middle of Millerton boasts only three screens, but various amenities. There are two screening rooms on the main level, with a third screening room on the second level. Additionally, the second level has a gallery that showcases works by local artists. Early for a movie? Soak in some culture. Have a hot drink at the coffee bar upstairs. Perhaps get a coconut water or a Harney Tea beverage from the snack bar downstairs. Be a little classy before seeing your art house indie flick. Though this theater plays many independent films, they will still show the better big blockbuster films of the moment.(July 31st, 2010’s showings were as follows: «Inception», «Salt», & «The Kids Are Alright».) It’s so nice to enjoy film in a relaxed environment with my Harney & Sons Organic Green Iced Tea. Because… I’m clearly a snob like that. And… I love it!
