I hadn’t been on a horse in a few years, and it was my birthday weekend so I was pretty tired by the time we took our ride on a Sunday morning. It was a private trail ride and we are intermediate/expert riders. The landscape is gorgeous and Justin has an excellent demeanor. There was a point where we had to get the horses to cross a 6″ mud stream and mine did not want to go. I was tired so I couldn’t kick her as hard as I should have but he was very patient and helped me get my horse across the«stream». The trail we took was up and down the east hills, I would suggest that trail for intermediate riders only.

After 1.5 years of lessons(and lots of $$) with another trainer and still feeling very«green» on a horse, I decided to give Justin a shot. Best decision I’ve made in a long time! Ashley was excellent to work with on scheduling my lessons, and they have been very understanding and responsive for occasional last minute scheduling changes. JM Performance is not really a store front type of establishment so I advise emailing&/ or calling them for scheduling. Justin is a phenomenal teacher. After assessing my riding, he broke down the horse relationship from the ground up. From just a few lessons I see a change in the response of my horse, my relationship with my horse, and in the way I ride. I was so impressed I got my husband to also take lessons(ive been trying to get him on a horse for over a year) after work(they have flexible hours which is great for those with a 9 – 5 job). The last time my husband tried lessons with the last trainer, he was put on the horse and told to «go» — before we knew it he was cantering and nearly came off the horse and the trainer wasn’t even paying attention! Justin is the complete opposite– he has complete attention to detail– how you are moving and how the horse is responding and moving. My husband gets to learn from the start how I wish I had learned! Justin’s approach is based on natural horsemanship– which is developing a rapport with the horse and learning to communicate with them as horses do with one another… it is more a «new school» method. The old fashioned way of horse training is frankly abusive and is based on creating fear in the animal. With Justin, he helps to your understand and create a safe and fun environment for you and your horse. After our last lesson we stayed and watched Ashley and Justin do a lesson for two little girls, who seemed between 9 to 12 yro. We were so impressed to see the girls gallop like pros around the arena. JM Performance is a great option for kids to adults, whether you are a new horse enthusiast or the experienced horse owner looking to learn more and or problem solve behavioral issues with their horse.

Owner Justin and his wife Ashley use Groupon to attract customer. But they think their customer comes for a cheap price rather than a potential long term rider. They rent their business in Chaparrel Ranch in Milpitas which always said«Go and talk to Justin and Ashley, they are separate business». «Where is Ashley?» «At her home.» After knocking her door trying to schedule the Trail Ride from Groupon which regulate Trail Ride has to be on a separate day with Horse Ride. Ashley was very angry said«Stand away from my door, this is a private property!» She is crazy, she seldom pick up the phone to schedule the Groupon customer. If I do face to face, then I was cursed and evaded. My money $ 45 is worth just a horse riding lesson? That is not Groupon said!

My wife had never ridden a horse in her life. I would even say she had never seen one in person until we went to JM Performance Horse. Justin and his team were very helpful and accomidating for her in helping her get used to sitting on top of an animal for the first time. By the time the second lesson was over, after being too scared at first to even let the horse walk, she was trying to get the horse to trot! The training is excellent and they never tried to get her to do anything she was uncomfortable with. While it has been a while since I was on a horse, I have been riding horses since I was in my teens(I am 44 now), and I learned a few things about handling a horse as well. I highly recommend them to anyone looking to learn how to ride/handle a horse.
