Mediocre tasting sushi at very high prices. What a terrible combination. Stopped by to check it out. Rolls were small, and the fish and inner fillings just did not taste fresh. Small portions with high prices. No recommendation here, and certainly no repeat.

Price — The usual prices for sushi. A bit expensive Event — Came here for a friend’s party, 9 people Appearance — Looks super dirty outside. You know Milpitas Main Street isn’t so great. Inside is decently nice. Service — Good service, nothing great though. Taste — It wasn’t too great. The sashimi wasn’t fresh and was very fishy. The portions were really small. Overall — There are much better places to go to in Milpitas for sushi. Come here if you don’t want to wait in lines or live near it. Small small small quantity for okay tasting sushi.

Not the former Sushi Lovers. It’s Izakaya Sushi Expo now. Same chef. Slightly different menu.

I was introduced to this place a few years ago. When I first pulled up, I was thinking«Seriously? This place looks sooo swanky!» but when you walk in, its gorgeous! The interior looked new and very well kept. Everything looked soo clean and inviting! There weren’t any rolls that stood out to me, but everything was pretty fresh.(Much more than Sen Dai.) The staff is very friendly, but also very quiet. Everytime I come in here, it’s always so empty. This is the place to go if you’re looking for a nice cheap and quiet place to dine.

Despite how run down it looks on the outside, the interior of this place is gorgeous. The interior design is beautiful and modern. The sushi chefs are warm and super friendly. I was even given a complimentary appetizer! ;) So thank you so much! The servers are attentive and nice– they bring out your food pretty quickly. I love to come here for the lunch bentos. The portions are huge, and they never leave you hungry. The price is amazing as well. It was probably $ 8 the last time I checked? That’s a freaking AMAZING deal for all that food! I’m not too big of a fan of the sashimi here. It’s always tasty, but the portions for it are pretty petite and small. The same goes for some of the rolls here. My friend ordered one roll that tasted amazing, but I forget which one it was :( So if you love bentos, definitely check this place out. Have fun, and happy sushi eating!

The 3 times that i’ve been here, it’s been empty… in a creepy way. I’ve never really seen any other people come in, either. I think a lot of people deter from this place because of how ghettofried it looks on the outside, but on the inside, it’s very chic– modern, & clean! The sushi was good, as well as the bento’s. My only complaint was that some of the waitresses have very limited English, & don’t take direction very well. I LOATHE avocados, & it was very disappointing for me to get EXTRA avocados in all 3 of my orders =(I didn’t even bother trying to return it. And, after trying to squeeze out the gross chunks, I was left with a thin piece of fish. Like, so small, that it resembled my fingernail. Too much money to pay for small portions. BUT!!! This place is open a lot later than Sen Dai, this being the reason I stumbled in all 3 times. So, if you have no other choice, do it. I guess…

The food here is just not that great and I have been here more then a few times and everytime I come here they manage to mess someone in our party’s order. The sushi rolls are unflavorful and the dinners not very filling but the service is good so one star for that. Maybe Sushi Mamoru will surprise me one day with an excellent meal…

I mean to give it a 3.5. Ambiance– no frills. Service– very attentive. Food– Spicy Lover– Best of all we ordered but was oookkkkk… Milpitas Roll– Don’t know why everyone recommended it but it was not very flavorful and had too much rice. Nigiri Sushi platter– Fish is at good portions but the Octopus and the Squid– I’d pass. Sakes were decently priced =)

This place really deserves a lot more attention. Yes, it seems that the exterior throws a lot of people off, but the interior makes up for it. The chef and the waiters/waitresses are humble and kind. All I have to say is Mike, the sushi chef is AWESOME and sincere. Really, if you take the time or if you’re lucky to see him he’s an amazing character. Been going there for about a year whenever I get a sushi craving and they haven’t disappointed me. The food is pretty pricey, but it does fill up my tummy. Just as long as my tummy is happy then I’m happy.

wow, expensive! We were going over there last summer, tolerating the Galaxy crowd and buying the expensive imported sake in those adorable little bottles — then on our last visit they showed us the NEW menu with the price increases. The prices were double what we had been paying. WHOA! Not going back… the waiter mostly came off like a salesman, kinda oily. i was offended when he assured my 8 year old he would like beer — please he’s a bit young to push beer upon.

I’ve been here for two lunches. Both times, the total bill for five people ordering pretty much any sushi they wanted was just under $ 100. Always seemed cheap to me both times. We didn’t have alcohol but still, soups sushi and assorted bento’s and what not. Well anyway, at both lunches the place was not half full so we had speedy ordering and speedy service. My tea pot was refilled upon removing the lid and all my favorite sushi’s were wonderful. Sake, Tobiko, Hamachi, Ickura and the Phili Roll, california roll and a couple of other new try’s. No sushi place gets a fifth star unless they have the floaty boats though. this place is in one of the oldest micro strip malls in Milpitas so it is easy to dismiss from the outside, but I’d highly suggest it.

I was dragged here once by a group of people. I ended up having a pretty good time due to my group and not this sushi restaurant. Maybe it was because I came late in the day, but the sushi was not very fresh. My friend at the table told it’s really off and on. She was right. When something did come to the table and tasted fresh, it was actually really good. So after a very inconsistent dinner in terms of taste, I wondered why anyone would drag a set of people to a place that pretty much is a «crapshoot» when it comes to taste?

Milpitas Roll– had sriracha hot sauce and mustard drizzled on the top of the roll… definitely not what I expected when I read the description on the menu… weird combination but we ate it all the same. 2.5 stars Rainbow Roll– I didn’t get sick from food poisoning… so it’ll get 4⁄5 stars from me «Z» Roll– a bit over priced for what it was. I think you were just paying for that deep fried shrimp head decoration… even though it wasn’t edible, or all that impressive. 3⁄5 stars The reason why I’m giving this place only 2 stars is because of this: We were the only party on a Sunday night, and quite a large one since we were celebrating a birthday. Since there was only one sushi chef, each order came out painstakingly slow… by the time the last person had gotten his order, the whole table had already finished eating. I think that the waiter should not have waited to take the orders until everyone was ready, so he could’ve at least gotten some rolls started while we were still deciding. Also, do not linger outside the restaurant once your bill is paid for. Otherwise the waiter might come out and claim that he miscalculated the total. We paid the«difference» but then he came back out again, and asked for more money saying he miscalculated it AGAIN. What the hell? He tried to show us his receipt(as if to prove himself) but like we could really read that chicken scratch abbreviation crap? Whatever, we paid and got the hell out of there before we could get hustled any longer.

so now i’m dropping this place to a 1 star, cause the other day my coworker asks if i’ve tried any new sushi places. I told her yeah sushi mamoru, DONTGOTHERE, and she reluctantly had the chills when I mentioned that name. Because just a couple months ago, she had went there for lunch and had food poisoning a couple hours later. I’m just writing this because she does not have Unilocal. Totally not a place to go back Raw fish = not fresh = food poisoning

The service here is impeccable. And so is the food’s quality and presentation. However, the price isn’t so wonderful: when you put mustard on a sushi roll I don’t expect to pay a hefty price for it. It wasn’t even dijon! Then again, it was the«Milpitas» roll, so maybe Milpitas is ‘mustardy’ in the chef’s eyes.(I’m certainly not offended or surprised.) Maybe I’m just biased because I’ve found a sushi place I love that is super inexpensive. This place is also great, I am just a semi-cheap skate. I also have to diss them on their location. Why would a place seeking such a classy appeal put themselves smack dab neighboring the quintessence of a white-trash bar? I walk out the doors and the first thing I witness is screeching swears coming from an overweight blond who was apparently really angry at another sloshed, swerving blond heading for her car. We were pretty frightened while pulling out of the parking lot the same time as them.

I’m sorry Sushi Mamoru, I went to Sen Dai tonight and they’ve stepped up their game. You now have competition for a place in my heart reserved specifically for hometown sushi.

A friend recommended it so we figured why not. I never try new sushi places on my own because I’m lazy and we already have 1 – 2 fave places so what’s the point of experimenting to find new ones… finding out it’s bad sushi is never fun. But they loved this place and with good reason. The rolls were amazing! I was a little worried about some of the reviews saying sashimi was not fresh, definitely not true on Saturday evening… my sake sashimi was perfect… they even did a ½ order of it for me so that I didn’t need to order a trough of it just to get a taste. Fast and friendly service, we ordered one more roll last minute because… lets face it, my hub and I are sushi roll piggies… and the roll arrived in less than 5 minutes, I kid you not! Fastest last minute roll ever made! Only downer, and this is worth one star unfortunately, was that our pals made the ressie over the phone so it’s a 10% discount AND I guess there is some sort of family 10% discount so we should have gotten 20%(this was all told to me later.!)…and they were only trying to give us 10% and telling my pal that the ad for 20% was expired. Well they went and found a copy of the ad they published in the Milpitas flyer and DOH it was 20%. So we got the 20% and they were apologetic but the whole 7 minute argument that went on about the 10 vs 20% was really not cool. If a customer is ADAMANT about it being 20% because she confirmed it with the gal on the phone… just friggin give it to them in the name of good customer service!!! It was all about the principal though sure, our order was like $ 135 so the 20% knocked it down to $ 110 which isn’t nothing… Worth 7 minutes of your time? Not sure… But anyway now I guess they have 20% til the end of the month if you call AND have a family(does our dog count??)…and it’s 10% if you just call to make a phone ressie. Still not bad… esp for YUMMY rolls. Must try: Milpitas and the 49er… tasty!

Bad exterior, right next to the Galaxy dive-ish bar but nice inside. The service is really friendly here and the food is good. Fresh fish and nice presentations. I think I like the Milpitas or Mamoru roll [the one with mustard on it]. The portions are a tad bit small here for the price they charge. They have a large menu so there’s something for everyone. Nothing really bad just the prices are a tad bit high but will come back when the tummy calls for it.

My friends told me about this place. I’ve only been a couple times but the times I have gone we ate our weight in sushi. I’m a local so I’ve rolled by this place many times before finally getting a chance to try it out and I was pleasantly surprised. Everyone there was very friendly and the sushi was delicious. I just came back from Sushi Mamoru with 5 other friends and we all-together DEVOURED: 22 rolls, 3 bottles of Sapporo, 2 bottles of unfiltered Sake &3 glasses of sake on the rocks… Needless to say I am a fan! Compared to the other sushi spots I love the prices are fair. I will continue to recommend this place to friends and family ^_^

I’ve been to this location tons of times before and they’ve changed tons of times too. it started off as korean bbq, but i think that this sushi restaurant is far better than the past. I had the opportunity to go there with my boyfriend’s family. I was apprehensive at first, but it turned out to be a great experience. of course, korean owned sushi restaurant. However, the waiter was really cool and spoke english very well. there was another guy, he didn’t speak much, but he understood everything. We started of with edamame and hot tea. both were good. we ordered sashimi and sushi rolls. which were all good and yummy. the waiter told us about a special that isn’t on the menu, which was called zero. AWESOMEROLL. it’s HUGE and VERYGOOD. then we had red bean ice cream which was delicious. we also told them that it was my bf’s brother’s bday and he got a free happy birthday roll which was spicy and hot. overall if you talk to the waiter and ask him what he recommends, he’s more than willing to tell you what is the best. ive only been there once, but it was a nice friendly environment and so far so good… so i will be back!
