Had a wonderful stay at the Buttermilk Falls Inn and Spa. Our room was perfect and having an outdoor patio made it even better. The facility is perfectly clean and the staff is incredibly hospitable. We enjoyed the spa as well. The complimentary breakfast and afternoon tea were the icing on the cake. Highly recommend for a weekend getaway. The restaurant is also fabulous. Cannot wait to come back.

I had a great stay at Buttermilk Falls inn. The private cottages are beautiful and the grounds are impressive with a breathtaking view of the Hudson river. The cottages were stocked with anything you could possibly need — you could tell the staff was thoughtful in their planning and we really appreciated that. We took advantage of the option to have a private yoga class and it was great! The sauna, steam room, and pool, and gym facilities are good but it would have been nice if they were open longer hours(didn’t open until 9am I believe and closed by early evening). Overall great time at Buttermilk Falls and we’ll be back!

Been many times over the years and the grounds are beautiful. The spa amenities are beginning to show their ware and tare. Service is always good and people are nice. The best service offered is the menu at the spa. The pool is tiny and it lacks a hot tub.

This review is for the spa only. If you have money to burn on underwhelming spa services, then this is the place for you. I bought my sister a $ 125 signature massage for her birthday and got a pool pass to hangout while she got pampered. The massage, she said, was not worth it for the price. And the poolside spa amenities aren’t worth the price of the pool pass or as part of the massage benefits. The«lounge» chairs are ridiculously uncomfortable and there are only about 10. If you can’t find a «lounge» chair, then the alternative is to sit on wire mesh chairs while hanging poolside. Nothing says tranquil spa experience like wire mesh chairs. The pool is small as is the steam room and sauna. For context, they have a bigger and nicer steam room at my local YMCA. We ordered lunch which was $ 13 for a half of sandwhich and a handful of greens with a dressing that I think was just oil and basil. They really make it so you don’t want to stick around(most likely this is their intention) which unfortunately is why I’ll never go back or recommend this place.

Love! this place. We rented a house for about 3 days and I cannot tell you how wonderful it was. The rooms are immaculate; glass door showers, full kitchen, there was even a foosball table and games in the basement. Plenty of TV channels if you dare to stay inside. Beautiful, beautiful grounds to take pictures on. Go out walking and meet the animals there including, but not limited to, emus, donkeys, goats, peacocks, chickens, swans, and ducks. You can walk right into the gate and play with the donkey who I made friends with. I fed her, Holly, some sugar cubes which she enjoyed immensely. The staff is very friendly and you get a family type of vibe there like they are a close-knit group. They will say«Hi» to you and you will run into them often on the premises. The spa costs extra but they have an indoor pool and sauna you can use. Every morning they would have a breakfast where they would take your order and cook you something from what they had on the farm(included in price). Also had a tea time in the afternoon where there was a table with teas, coffee, juice, fruit, and freshly baked desserts. When dinner time comes, there is a restaurant on the premises, a little too pricey after you dropped a couple grand paying for the resort experience but love that the food is farm-raised and organic. But definitely bring your own food for dinner if you want to cut costs. All in all a fabulous place for a little vacation from the world. Definitely would come back!

My stay at the Buttermilk Falls Inn + Spa was absolutely lovely. I stayed with my mother for two nights and we each had a few spa services. The Inn was stunning — we stayed in the Juniper room which was perfect. Most rooms have a tub and a fireplace which were a perfect addition. The complimentary breakfast and afternoon tea were the highlights of our stay. There are buffet style options in addition to a few special menu items that they prepare to order for each guest. The spa services were very nice — my only comment is that if you are offering nail services, I would expect there to be a nail dryer for after the manicure/pedicure in order to prevent smudging etc. The massage was lovely with the lavender essential oil and the sauna/steam were super relaxing. The grounds were beautiful — perfect for a wedding! Beautiful views of the hudson, a farm with animals, and beautiful ponds with ducks. I would highly recommend staying here if you want a relaxing weekend at a beautifully quaint inn. I can’t wait to come back!

Take the Metro North to Poughkeepsie or drive up the Hudson and then across the river to this idyllic and charming country inn. The grounds — all 75 acres of them — are bucolic, especially during fall foliage season, and the waterfalls, llamas, gentle sloping hills, and Hudson River views all add up to a gorgeous spot for a weekend away. I came midweek for work, but it was still a wonderful way to leave stress behind, see some real stars, and be in nature. Drawbacks include the oddly less than friendly staff — what’s up with that? — and Henry’s restaurant is just sort of… okay. Portions are huge but entrees underwhelm in flavor and balance.

HB and I went here for our 1yr anniversary and it was total bliss! Beautiful grounds, great food, wonderful staff, and just a really wonderful wknd. I found out about Buttermilk Falls Inn via the Upstater magazine that I happened to pick up when at the Farmers Market. I did my research and it was pretty much everything we wanted w/o breaking the bank. We got married in the Hudson Valley area so we wanted to go back and almost relive our day. We were able to use one of the promotion packages that they offer, which included wine and chocolate cover strawberries oooh la la. The room was cozy and the fireplace made it 10x better… very comfortable! The breakfast was pretty good and the options changed daily, which was nice. They were booked to capacity, but it didn’t even feel like it. Not crowded and no issues getting a table for breakfast or anything… they run their establishment in a pretty smooth way. We had dinner at their restaurant, which was also great and pretty convenient! The spa is where its at! I indulged in a WONDERFUL massage at the spa… awww man I just love the spa. Ben was great and knew exactly what to do. The lunch menu available was good too… great salads and juices to quench your thirst and inject all the good vitamins and minerals we all need lol. The grounds are lovely to tour and great for pics… nice feeling seeing where the food comes from on their farm… I’d highly rec Buttermilk for great getaway w/friends, your loved ones, or whoever. You really can’t go wrong with the Hudson Valley area.

This lovely old inn is only two hours from New York City. My husband and I visited for the 4th time last week and booked our next visit for next Fall. The inn is quaint, the staff lovely, the grounds are beautiful to walk around. There is a sweeping lawn down to the Hudson River, a falls you can walk to and a fantastic animal sanctuary with llamas, alpacas, donkeys, goats, chickens, ducks and a few kitty cats. Our bed was super soft and we slept like babies. They have bicycles you can use for a ride down country lanes and there are plenty of restaurants in nearby Poughkeepsie to visit. It’s cheaper during the week if you can visit then. I can freely say(since I’ve already booked my slot for next year) do go and visit!

Beautiful accommodations, excellent massage, serene property and magnificent views of the Hudson… I have only great things to say about my recent stay at Buttermilk Inn and Spa! We had a warm greeting and staff was helpful and accommodating. The included breakfast was delicious and the service was fast. The afternoon tea was a sweet treat of pastries, just at the right point in the day. Our house was contemporary and sprawling, and provided stunning views of the Hudson. Wish I could have stayed longer!

my husband and i stayed at buttermilkfalls in over the july 4th weekend and had a wonderfully relaxing time. i’ve been wanting to stay here for a couple years now, so it felt like a mini-dream come true. we were greeted by burros, llamas, and ducks as we entered, and spent the afternoon exploring the beautiful grounds. we met the inn’s two kitties, watched two male peacocks spread their beautiful plumage in mating dances, and listened to the sounds of the train along the river, resounding reminders that we were just an hour north of new york city. for dinner, we dined at henry’s at the farm, the inn’s own little restaurant overlooking the lake and ducks. the food was delicious, the view from the restaurant were spectacular, and the service was great. while there isn’t much to do in the town of milton, if you drive just 15 – 30 min away, you can access poughkeepsie, beacon, hudson, rhinebeck, and lots of cute towns to explore. walkway-over-the-hudson is a MUST as well — the views are really nice and it’s a nice 1 mile walk across.

We chose to spend a few days at the Inn because we had seen the beautiful grounds during one of our trips to Vassar College where our son was a student. We had read the amazing reviews of the restaurant, Henry’s at the Farm, which is on the inn’s grounds, and we were charmed by the farm animals, the lakes, and the gorgeous gardens. We loved every minute of our stay, and wished we had planned to stay another day. The staff at the inn was wonderfully helpful. Breakfast and afternoon tea was a sumptuous feast. We took advantage of the beautiful spa services on site as well. The view of the Hudson was idyllic. Can’t wait to return to this Heaven on the Hudson.

YEESSSS to everything about this place!!! I mean seriously NAMASTE!!! I originally booked the Riverbirch House for September to celebrate my bday with some friends. I unfortunately couldn’t make those dates and the manager was super accommodating in rebooking dates that worked for me which happened to be Easter weekend. The house was beautiful inside and out(the front is pretty unassuming but walk around back and your jaw will drop. Panoramic views indeed! So once we arrived there was no need to argue over who is staying in which room because they are ALL beautifully appointed with sweet ensure bathrooms and then a half bath in the common area. The kitchen was perfect for our first night potluck dinner equipped with all your basics(pans pots, utensils cups and glasses). I could go on and on about the house but you get the idea! Morning yoga was so relaxing and the perfect way to start our day(well those of us who were able to wake up) Tara is a great instructor for all levels and gave great cues to get to the sweet spots in the postures. The complimentary breakfast… In one word… YUM! Pretty nice selection of pastries(I lived for the scones!!!) smoked salmon and then a hot menu that seems to change daily. Everything was delicious and the breakfast was well run by an attentive team! Afternoon tea was great as well… And so much more than tea… More scones please! Beautiful property overall. We took the little hike the the buttermilk Falls which isn’t intimidating at all and beautiful. We took a few pictures on the nearby train tracks a la Stand By Me(we love you river Phoenix!) The farm was a must see as well. Friendly llamas, alpacas and donkey and the peacocks! They have a diva albino peacock who is absolutely GORGEOUS! I have so many great things to say about this place, I could probably do a commercial. What an amazing stay. I really can’t wait to go back… I imagine it is absolutely in the fall!

I would recommend Buttermilk Falls for couples and not groups. Two bachelorette parties there in three months(one for me and one for a friend) came with a lot of communication issues and having to worry about things that you shouldn’t have to worry about at the price point of the houses on property — unplowed driveways, key mixups, rooms not being ready by check in time, dinner reservations being lost. That’s just a few examples. Riverknoll House is gorgeous and the living room is perfect for a big group to enjoy. Riverbirch is also lovely but the loving room really isn’t ideal for more than 4 – 5 people sitting comfortably. TL;DR Too pricey for the level of service provided for larger groups.

OMG incredible spa experience. You walk in and it smells like a spa with plenty of space and nice treats. We bought a spa package which included lunch and prosecco. The Sandwiches were really good. They were pannini types and not the typical high tea cucumber spa sandwiches. We had plenty of water and teas available. Hung out by the pool and sauna and steam room. Nice lockers with combs, toothbrushes, qtips and razors. My wife and I got the bamboo massage. Bummer no couples room but the individual rooms were great and not too small. We had massages by Dina and Jean and they were absolutely over the top amazing. It was suppossed to be an hour but it felt like 90 minutes. They didnt rush at all and without any instruction were able to hit the knots with much needed attention. They had just the right level of pressure. We walked out floating. Seriously Dina and Jean not sure if I’m spelling their name right but they are TOPNOTCH! We have literally been to top spas around the world and these two masseuses are top contender. We have one night left and we’re considering booking one more session before we go. They work magic. Inn: Wonderful wonderful Inn. We were able to check in one hour early by calling in before we arrived. The rooms were clean and well decorated. The Breakfast and afternoon tea was more than you would need for breakfast and lunch. Wonderful grounds with great rescue animals on site. The staff was warm and accommodating. This is our last night and we are not looking forward to leaving. One of the best places we’ve stayed in a while and looking forward to making an annual escape for us. Really great place!

My husband and I bought the Jetsetter deal for the Inn. We stayed in one of the standard rooms and through the deal we were able to receive 10% off of a spa service. The Inn was constructed from an old farm house and has all the colonial charm from it’s past. The Inn is just adorable. There is a nook where an informal tea time and breakfast is served. There is a sitting room with a wood burning fireplace. There is a patio that looks upon the Hudson in the distance. You can also see where outdoor events are hosted on a patio directly overlooking the Hudson. The rooms are so incredibly charming and lovely, decorated in colonial style. There is a gas fireplace in every room. My only gripe about the rooms is that you can hear everything from the hallway and the rooms above. It is a very old farm house, so I understand this but it was pretty apparent. On the 70 acres of land, you are able to hike down to the Inn’s namesake: Buttermilk Falls. The Falls are small but beautiful. You are also able to hike down to the Hudson River; be careful, there are active train tracks there. There is also a vegetable garden, a farm house where events are held, a peacock paddock, a chicken/rooster coop, and a llama/goat/alpaca enclosure. There was also one very friendly donkey in the enclosure. All of the animals were beautiful and full of personality. I went to the spa to take advantage of the 10% off coupon and got a massage. The massage and spa were wonderful. Very beautifully decorated and tranquil. There is an indoor pool situated in front of floor to ceiling windows that overlook the grounds. My only complaint is of the size of the women’s locker room. It is quite small. There were quite a few ladies(about 10) going in and out of it while I was there and it was very difficult and even uncomfortable to get changed in there(really only room for about 5 or 6). Overall, I would recommend this Inn to friends for weekends away or events. With it being only 2 hours away from NYC, it’s a great place to have a getaway. There are also larger houses that sleep several people so you could go with a bunch of friends or family.

The property is gorgeous at Buttermilk Falls. The service was also excellent. The room was clean and the view in the morning as the sun rose was truly magnificent. However, I can’t give this place more than three stars because the reason I chose it was because they say on their website the food is organic and«farm to table». This was not the case. It may have been for the kale on one of the dishes at dinner, but for the most part, this was not the case. I had to go back to the site to see if I was mistaken but no, its pretty misleading. The food that was served to us in the spa I was sure was just run of the mill conventional produce. Nothing special. The most obvious was at mid day when they put out food and drinks. I had expected to see fair trade coffee(as advertised on their site) and organic teas. Neither was there. Condiments were not organic either. Instead of baked goods and other stuff that are usually homemade at Inns and B&Bs, they put out those dense pre packaged cakes that come from Sysco(food supplier) and other unappetizing stuff. I was surprised that they didn’t bake cakes there, isn’t that one of the great things about staying at an Inn? Anyone can recognize pre packaged baked goods. They are not very good either. I will say they had local apples out and a few chocolate chip cookies they claimed were homemade. I noticed only one item that had a sign of what farm it came from, the rest… Sysco was my suspicion. The dinner at Henry’s was fine. I am sure it was not all from the garden, and I am certain it wasn’t all«farm to table». My issue with all of this is that we choose this place because it said it was organic and farm to table, etc. It may take some things from their lovely garden, but it was clearly a small amount. My suspicions were confirmed when we were checking out the next day and I noticed a Sysco(Yep.I thought so!) invoice sheet laying on the desk(facing me) and a menu from Henry’s right next to it, proudly displaying«farm to table». I also thought the eggs on the invoice were funny because I was just told they get eggs from the chickens there. I guess they need more? In any event, if you are going to position yourself as organic and work that marketing angle, you should probably deliver, no? I understand this may not matter to most, but we choose it based on this alone and we felt it really was misleading. As for the spa, it was ok. The massage was fine but not memorable. The locker room was a bit creepy. It had an old stained chair holding the shower door open strangely. The locker I used was broken, and it was a bit drab in there. On another note, the spa also touts that it is organic and there products on the sink in there that very UNorganic, which I found interesting. That also extended to the condiments in the main Inn… nothing organic. Not even real maple syrup. I think I gave up around the time they served us the fake syrup. Ugh. In any event, it is a lovely setting just know you are not getting a true organic experience as their website alludes to.

Went to Buttermilk Falls Inn for a 2 day weekend stay with my boyfriend for his birthday. We were pleased when the drive took exactly 2 hours from downtown Manhattan– considering we left at 5p on a Friday in the summer. We stayed in the main house in room ‘Sage Left’ which was just what we were looking for. It is located on the first floor, had a decent sized bathroom and a beautifully decorated bedroom. Very clean! The best part were the French doors leading to the back yard patio which had gorgeous views and a table in which we enjoyed our wine. We spent the weekend exploring the grounds by foot and bike. The made to order breakfast was delicious and the afternoon snack(fresh pizza) was also great. The eating area was equipped all day with water, coffee and tea(iced and hot) and other small snacks to get you through the day. All in all it was a great weekend and am glad I spent the extra money in staying at this wonderful bed and breakfast. Will absolutely return!

We stayed at the River View house in late December, which is basically amazing. Gorgeous views of the river and the house itself is pretty luxurious and spacious. There is a My Cousin Vinny train situation here, to the tenth power. We were good sports about the non stop train traffic that is not only on the other side of the river, but also literally right underneath the house at the river bank. However, it could really get annoying if you are staying here for a long period of time. I seriously do not know where all these trains are going, and maybe it was just the time of year we were there, but I swear trains went by, blowing their horns of course, every 15 or 20 minutes, day and night. Investing in some sound proof windows would be a nice idea.

My husband and I have stayed in a few B&Bs before, but Buttermilk Falls Inn & Spa wins best breakfast, hands down. The spread is amazing! They even have gluten-free English muffins. The best was definitely the cook-to-order hotcakes and egg dishes. Hotcakes were big and fluffy. The omelet and frittata… seriously never had better before. don’t know what the secret is besides that they use eggs from their farm and fresh vegetables. I will go back to this place just for their egg dishes. We spent one night here and had dinner at Henry’s, the restaurant on site. Although the food was okay, I much prefer the Inn’s breakfast. Also, dinner service was spotty and we had to wait long periods of time for our food to arrive. As for the room, we stayed in a spacious guest house called Pony’s Pad. Basically it’s a two-story(spiral staircase) cottage with a nice living area(w/sofa bed), fireplace, and kitchen on the main floor and then a beautiful bedroom with wide windows all across one wall and a skylight on the second floor. Also on the second floor is a two-sink bathroom with a washer/dryer and a separate, HUGE shower room that is seriously crazy. The wrap-around deck on the main floor is also pretty nice. I wish we spent more than one night here. Wifi was very spotty though. Some might not care, some might – just be aware! Wifi worked in the breakfast area and the main Inn, but we only got wifi in the room if we stood by the entrance area. I didn’t try any of the spa treatments but did take a dip in the pool and stuck my head in the sauna to check it out. It was clean, but very small. The areas around the Inn are gorgeous. We experienced a light flurry of snow when there and it really was beautiful. There are also some animals you can check out in the barn area – chicken, duck, llamas, etc.
