So, this California girl way out of her league when it came to the Midwest cuisine. My lovely partner and his siblings thought it was imperative that on my visit give a Juicy Lucy a try. And I was not disappointed at all! I mean, what more do you really need in a meal? Meat: check. Cheese: check. Cheese wonderfully melted inside said meat: double check. I decided to go with the pepperjack cheese in the center and after the first bite, I was hooked. The meat was of great quality and the burger wasn’t embellished with fancy toppings, so it allowed for the burger to speak for itself. It was a perfect serving with just enough room to finish off the fries that come with every burger! We also indulged in some cheese curds, fried pickles, and onion rings. God bless the Midwest for deep-fried delicacies!

Delicious hamburger heaven! Tried the original w/the American cheese melted middle. OMG! It was burger heaven! The frys were good too. Our waitress had been on the show when Man vs Food featured the 5 – 8 Club. All around great food, service & price

overrated. bun was dry, burger was decent at best, fries were fine, service was good, and I felt no juicier after the lucier. fried pickles weren’t bad I guess, nothing worth writing home about. quick service at least.

Not as classic as Matt’s bar, but it definitely has the best Juicy Lucy in town! I know my previous statement is highly debatable, but for me the variety of the 5 – 8’s Juicy Lucy gives them the advantage. The service was friendly and the kitchen was quick to get the food out to our table. The prices were also standard and just about what you would expect for a burger and fries. Didn’t get a chance to look at their drink menu, but I will add content when I go back. One thing that could be improved upon is the fries. As they were a bit too soft and soggy. Overall, it was a worthwhile place to grab a quick bite. Check it out!

Let’s be clear! A juicy Lucy will never be a Jucy Lucy! Cool quaint bar with a cool patio close to the airport. Second rate cheese filled burgers. If you really want to be wowed by a burger drive up the road and wait in line.

We picked this place to try the obligatory juicy Lucy because it was closest to where we were staying. What an awesome decision! I ordered the classic with a Grain Belt to drink. Juicy, flavorful. My husband tried a variation with spicy cheddar jack or something; his was no where near as gooey and delicious as mine. So I’d recommend sticking with the old favorite. I tried the sweet potato fries with«marshmallow bleu.» That’s right– a marshmallow blue cheese dip that defies explanation. Perfect with the fries. Confusing, yet delicious.

Upon the owner contacting me, calling me a liar, stating I had issues with my ID, I will make my way back 1000+ miles, just to show her personally that I was correct. The bartendress did not want to serve to out of state ID during a light dinner service, made me the Joker of the establishment and watched me walk out. I will not get into a legal battle(unless I’m strong armed) therefore, I will arrive with the same ID in hand. I will take a photo of exactly where I was denied, and a photo of a Flaberghasted Onwer, that just lost faith in her staff — and post it for Unilocal to Believe that 5 – 8 is there for their own. 5 – 8 is not there to serve you amazing food and show you amazing service

As I rightly thought, this wasn’t going to be the best juicy lucy I had in Minneapolis, but it didn’t even meet my basic standard of a good burger. we walked in and there was a wait. But at some point, someone said there were tables in the back, in sort of an enclosed outside area that was a seat yourself area — what do you know, tons of tables open. Why the hostess failed to mention this to all of the people waiting — I will never know, but definitely annoying. After sitting down, we decided some pickle chips which were not crispy, sorta soggy — pretty sad. We also ordered the blue cheese burger. The burger was sorta small, bun started denigrating immediately as they were the cheap kind that you buy at the grocery store, the blue cheese was good, but not very much of it, the burger was overcooked, dry, and just wasn’t very good. You could tell that they took two cheap patties, put cheese in the middle and then halfheartedly put them together. Overall, very underwhelming. I say, skip this one.

Good burger and fries if they come out hot. If not, then it’s simply overpriced and over rated. Chili is NOT the same recipe at all the 58s, but it’s solid if not served hot. Bottom line, tell your server you like your food server hot or not at all. Fried pickles are usually pretty good.

Ended up here after a morning of strenuous mountain biking, so all my tummy was craving was a delicious Juicy Lucy. Unfortunately, all I got was a chunk of cheese slapped in between two pieces of pre-made meat on a cold dry bun. Needless to say, this was a huge disappointment, as I had been craving a JL for a while and my craving was not satisfied at 5 – 8. I have been to Matt’s Bar several times before and every single time the JL there has been on point, I mean it just melts in your mouth. It can be a hassle eating there as it’s a small joint and it’s always packed; on top of that they make the burger from scratch right in front of your eyes, but the wait is well worth it. Back at 5 – 8, we were extremely surprised when we ordered and the waitress brought our burgers within 4 minutes. At first I was excited, but as I took my first bite I realized that I’d much rather wait 30 minutes for a great burger than 3 for one that I can cook myself. Two positive things that 5 – 8 has is that it’s not a hole in the wall like Matt’s. It’s a lot bigger and more comfortable. Service is pretty good too, that is why this is a 2-star review and not a 1-star. If you’re here for a Juicy Lucy, turn around right now and go to Matt’s. Otherwise it might be an OK place for whatever else.

There’s debate as to which Jucy Lucy is better between Matt’s Bar and the 5 – 8 Club. While they’re both delicious, 5 – 8 has more cheese and topping options, and they have waffle fries that are to die for. The atmosphere was family friendly, the building was clean, and they have two sections(restaurant and bar) for bar goers who aren’t looking for a family/restaurant feel. The staff were very friendly, the prices were reasonable, and we’ll definitely come back. Unlike Matt’s bar, 5 – 8 does take credit cards, and they have enough seating for hungry/thirsty patrons. You won’t be standing in a line, wrapping around the building for hours, waiting. If you’re looking for a delicious Jucy, 5 – 8 will not let you down.

first time I had a juicy lucy. nice local burger! I wouldn’t most likely return, seems more of a «local experience» of something to do once while in Minneapolis.

We ate dinner here during a weekend trip to Minneapolis on the recommendation of a friend from the area. She was right. It was very good! We arrived about 5:30 on Saturday evening, and there was a short line for tables. After about 10 minutes we were about to snag a table. We waited for the waitress to clean it, which she greatly appreciated and said«you must be from out of town.» She was great throughout our meal. She made appropriate recommendations and told us a little about the place too. We started with an order of onion straws piled so high a show dog couldn’t jump over it. They were awesome! Perfectly seasoned and delicious. There are way to many of them for two people to eat in one sitting(or 3 or 4 sittings for that matter), so bring friends. I had the Juicy Lucy with American cheese. I was surprised by how well the cook can keep the cheese secured within the burger. Every time I’ve tried something like this at home, the cheese oozes out before the burger is fully cooked. And there was a ton of cheese inside my Juicy Lucy. I loved every sloppy bite. Mrs. M. got the Saucy Sally, which is a Juicy Lucy covered in thousand island and some other type of special sauce with lettuce and tomato. She devoured it despite claiming to be full of onion straws. Our poor sides of fries didn’t get much attention, so we took them back to the hotel for a late night snack. I really enjoyed the whole experience here and I’d live to go back if I’m ever in Minneapolis again. The less famous sandwiches on the menu sound great too. Maybe I’d give one of them a try.

Food: 1 star Service: 5 stars As a native Twin Citian I know I should like it, but… both times here the food has been so-so. Shouldn’t a «Jucy Lucy» be, well, juicy??? Pretty dry, not very cheesy, and not worth all the hype. It’s now checked off my bucket list, so that’s good. On a side note, service was A+++. Friendly, fast, and efficient(I hate having to ever ask a server for refill, and I didn’t have to here. She was on top of everything.)

A solid showing for a juicy lucy. I’m ashamed to say I never ate here or tried a juicy lucy while I lived in Minnesota but I was excited to visit the famous 5 – 8 Bar, established originally as a speakeasy in 1928. I got the blue cheese stuffed burger with fries. The burger was solid, nothing extraordinary but not terrible. I didn’t use any ketchup which for me is the perennial sign of a decent patty. The fries were deliciously fresh and the onion rings had serious crunch to the batter. Definitely a must have! The ambiance was that of a local dive bar down to the brown chipped walls and old movie posters. A local institution with a famously original burger. Stop by for no other reason than to say you’ve been to the original 5 – 8.

Came here for their famous Juicy Lucy at the boyfriend’s recommendation — he’s actually tried replicating their original at home to no avail. LOL. No offense to him. Their Juicy Lucy was extremely yummy! To first-timers, please pay attention to the menu’s cautionary note about biting into the burger then having hot cheese ooze out. Service was good for us. Our server was nice, patient and quick to bring us our food and drinks. She wasn’t overly personable, but we have nothing to complain about her. Checked on us a couple times Food came up to us at the same time and was still warm from the kitchen. Again, it was all yummy.

I couldn’t write this review until I had tried both restaurants claiming to be the home of the Juicy Lucy. We tried both in one day and now I can say that 5 – 8 Club definitely makes a better Juicy Lucy! It was thicker and the melted cheese was a nice thick creamy consistency; which I prefer. The French fries were better here also. I personally would recommend this place for this Minneapolis tradition!

Matt’s vs. 5 – 8 Club… 5 – 8WINSINMYBOOK. This restaurant actually has more of a restaurant vibe than a dive bar. I loved my burger! Of course I got a juicy lucy. I like that they have way more options when it comes to the cheese and toppings, and also the fact that you can order other things on their menu. Very good, fast service, I’ll be back.

St. Patrick’s Day. I was pumped for my first Juicy Lucy out of Minneapolis. I had no idea what to go with, but 5 – 8 Club was more memorable sounding to me then Matt’s Bar. Service was beyond slow, despite hardly anyone being in the restaurant. But whatever, I was willing to wait for what the multiple TV channels have touted as an ideal Minnesota place to visit. Well, the burger wasn’t anything beyond what you get at In-N-Out. Yes, there’s the cheese on the inside, but the meat itself is dry and flavorless. It DEMANDS that cheese for the flavor. The fries are just as bland. The onions were good, but remind me exactly of In-N-Out, but for ½ the price. How disappointing. I will not come back.

Well it’s here and still open so that’s good, was in town for work and came here for the juicy Lucy. It looked great and figured it would probably be warm so I waited 5 minutes to eat my burger, took a bite and it spewed all over my hand and onto the cuff of my shirt giving me a nice burn and ruining a shirt. I had informed the waitress of this and got a «yes they are hot» and absolutely nothing more. Burger– matts is better Fries –matts is better Onions — matts is better This burger tastes ore made with inferior ingredients to matts, yes we can all be partial at times but matts clearly does a better job in all respects and the burger over there didn’t burn me!
