I went there today for the 1st time and ordered their Thai Chicken Curry Soup and it was AMAZING! I will be going back(-:

My favorite lunch spot near the University of Minnesota. Lunch Special A — Hot and Spicy Beef is my go to meal at this place. $ 5.65 is a great deal.

Very very dissapointing service. I ordered a dish at 7:40pm, the dish came out at 8:30pm and there weren’t a lot of people there, around two other tables. The lady who prepared my food used her bare fingers to arrange my food. So disgusting to see my food was being hand picked by a lady who wasn’t wearing any proper hygiene equipment. I used to go here once in a while, but I notice the quality has been downhill for the last couple months. From now on, I will not come back again to this restaurant again

service isn’t great but the food is, and the atmosphere is really good(although I’m saying this as a huge fan of holes in the wall, so this may not apply to you). it’s a mom and pop shop through and through. I go there ~once a month, and I’ve never been disappointed by anything I’ve ordered, which has primarily been some appetizer, tea, and a bowl of phở(a bowl on whose portions they don’t skimp). plenty of condiments and spices to add if it isn’t hot or tasty enough. service isn’t great, you generally have to flag them down to order or get the check. this isn’t a problem at all, because the restaurant is sandwiched in and you can see everything but the inside of the kitchen, and I think this is why they don’t come ask if you need anything often. it’s rarely been busy when I go, so do not worry about struggling to get their attention, and that’s why I don’t consider ‘poor service’ that big of a deal in this case.

Very authentic chinese restaurant, they have a separate menu just for authentic dishes. It’s been so long since I’ve seen these dishes in Chinese restaurant such as the Hainan chicken rice. Too bad they ran out when I was there, but I’ll definitely be back to try it!

We ordered delivery via bitesquad, and we were sadly disappointed upon receiving our food. We had fried dumplings, which were charred and burned. The fried rice on the side contained egg like substance, and nothing else, not even flavor. The General Tso’s Tofu had a flavorless sauce that was over-loaded with crushed red pepper flakes, making it inedible. And the triple delight was only meh. It is an experience we will not be repeating

Excellent soup. Quick service. Fair prices. All my favorite things! I had the spring rolls and wanton soup. My friends are sick of hearing me talk about how it was the best wanton soup I’ve ever had. Going back soon to get another bowl and to try the Phở. Yep, I agree with the other posters, dirty tables and menus.

I went there on a weekday. The food is okay for the price but not that great. The appetizers were pretty bad especially, we had ordered the eggroll that was dripping in oil. Also the Iced tea was pretty disappointing. The main course was better. We had mock duck and grillled chicken which were pretty nice though a tad sweet. Overall I would recommend take away, the diner did not seem like the best place to sit and eat.

My boyfriend and I stopped into Camdi when we were walking around campus running some errands. We were both sick, so we decided to get some soups. We ordered the fresh spring rolls as an app and both ordered the bun bo hue that was recommended by our server. The spring rolls were okay — the sauce wasn’t peanut-y like I’ve usually had, but more like a paste instead. The shrimp had a strong artificial flavor… I’m not sure how to explain it. Very fishy. Our Bun Bo Hue soups were okay… but ps. it was SPICY. I could barely eat it because I’m not as big of a fan for high spice levels. The pork meat in the soup was barely edible for me… tons of fat chunks and tons of pieces that were basically clear because they were pure fat. It grossed me out. I barely ate the soup. We both took them home and never reheated them… haha oops. Interior is basically like a run down chinese food restaurant and pretty small. Overall, maybe there’s a favorite dish here that I don’t know about, but I probably won’t be back.

House hors d’œuvre –egg roll(1) oily filling good, shell crispy. –fried wonton(2) cheese wonton(2) both taste the same. Cream cheese filling. Oily — grilled chicken– best part of dish. Nice flavor — grilled beef. Dry, tough, –pickled cabbage and carrots delicious just how my mom makes it Sweet and sour combination –shrimp. Small shrimp –chicken. Ok –pork– over cooked and tough Sweet and sour sauce standard Chicken lo mein– needs more Veggies, a little sweet, but good. Favorite dish we ordered. FOOD score 3⁄6 Service slow. Had to go up to register to pay. Maybe that’s how it is. There was only one front man who was nice but acting as host and waiter. Food came out on a timely fashion. SERVICE score ½ Ambience good. Interesting art work. Water Glasses were dirty. AMBIENCE score ½ Total 5⁄10

Me and my friends ate here on 30 Nov and it was fantastic. The waiter was very nice and the service was great. He even recommended me a very good sesame chicken dish. My vegan friend ate with us and he was very happy with the menu. I had one of the vegan spring rolls and it was very tasty so I could see his enthusiasm. It’s good and cheap food that’s perfect for college students looking for a good meal. I would(and do) recommend it to my friends.

I had the greatest craving for tom yum and had never been to camdi before so I decided to go based on the other reviews. I already was wary about going to a Chinese-Vietnamese restaurant for a Thai dish but it was a nearby option. It was a bad mistake. If you are looking for good tom yum, this is not it. It was essentially a tomato based broth soup. My boyfriend also got the bun bo hue which was good but not spectacular. I’m going to stick to University avenue from now on if I’m feeling Thai or Vietnamese.

The food here is good, thoroughly enjoyed the taste. Also, the customer service is friendly and casual. Ambience is great. Small area with classical music in the background. Cozy feeling.

Recently found this Vietnamese restaurant in Dinky Town and wanted to try it out. I went when they were just opening up. It is a tidy family restaurant. On the walls are some interesting art works. They have tables for 2’s and 4’s. It is not as clean though. The menus seemed to need some cleaning, and my utensils had some stains on it. I ordered the cream cheese wontons and the bun bo hue. The cream cheese wontons came out first, and they were okay. Not really tasteful, and a bit too much on the oily side. They were about below average. There was really nothing special about them. The bun bo hue came out after, and it was amazing! The broth was very flavorful. A bit sweet, and a bit spicy. It had rice vermicelli noodles, and pork meat. The meat was not tender, and a bit too much on the chewy side. However, the broth just makes it up every time. It always fulfilled my taste buds every time I took a slurp. The portion did not seem as much, but it actually was a lot. I was really full. For only about $ 9, this soup was definitely worth it. One downfall was that I had to wait 20 minutes for this soup, and I was the only customer there at the moment. The service was really welcoming and friendly. It seemed that the wife was the cook, and the husband handled the customers. Overall, I feel like Camdi has its pros and cons. If I am in the area and am craving for bun bo hue, I would stop by. If not, I wouldn’t make my way to eat there.

Cute little restaurant quietly serving Vietnamese cuisine in the midst of Dinkytown hubbub, run by Camdi and her husband(she cooks, he serves). PRO: separate vegan menu.(try the«cream cheese» wontons!) PRO: warm, friendly service that is reasonably attentive. PRO: many delicious options for appetizers and entrees. CON: a little on the expensive side(I’d change the rating to two $$‘s) BUT it’s totally worth it! My best friend and I come here somewhat regularly to dine off their vegan menu and we love it!

Some dishes are quite good, some are okay. I really wanted to like the place given it’s owned by what seems to be a nice couple. Overall, considering taste, value and service, I would say there are more compelling options in the twin cities. The basil eggplant stir fry was pretty tasty but portions are quite small relative to the price. The hot and spicy shrimp was pretty good as well. We ordered cantonese pan friend noodles and the owner accidentally made«shrimp pad thai» instead and asked if we would be willing to accept it. It was really below average and there was no apology or attempt to fix the issue. I can’t say we’d give this place another try.

My wife and I ordered food from there tonight, and it’s easily one of the worst meals we’ve ever had from a restaurant. My wife ordered a egg roll noodle salad and I ordered chicken chow mein with fried rice and egg rolls. First off, the egg rolls on both dishes were absolutely terrible. Burnt and greasy, they were disgusting. The chicken in the chicken chow mein was overcooked and very chewy. The chow mein sauce/gravy was extremely sweet and the fried rice was just white rice with pepper and burnt egg. Even the prepackaged chow mein crunchy noodles were stale and had mold on it. On top of all of that, it took a very long time for it to arrive. Needless to say we will NEVER order from Camdi again.

Decided to check out Camdi on a date night last week after enjoying a few adult beverages at Kitty Club nearby. I swear, I’ve passed Camdi a thousand times yet it has such an unassuming storefront that I’ve never felt compelled to try it. However, when we knew we’d be in the neighborhood for happy hour and wanted to try some place neither of us has ever been, I started scouring Unilocal reviews and discovered that Camdi has VEGANCREAMCHEESEWONTONS. Craving some deep-fried goodness and for years having been deprived of the wonder that is cream cheese wontons(yes, Americanized and horrible for you, I understand), the decision was made. Once we stepped through the aforementioned unassuming storefront, we were greeted by a somewhat updated looking long room, casual and earthy with colorful, textural paintings covering the walls. I only saw two employees, presumably the couple/owners I’ve read about on Unilocal, the entire time we were here… a woman cooking in back and a man serving tables. He was very friendly and even helped make menu suggestions when it came time to order main dishes. My guy went with curry chicken while I opted for the hot and spicy mock dock. I added broccoli because I need vegetables with every meal… plus the idea of following up deep fried faux cream cheese wontons with saucy, greasy mock duck meant I was already having a pretty major calorie bomb so I may as well *try* to balance things out a bit. We both ordered cream cheese wontons — my guy got the real thing, I got the vegan — and we both finished them. That’s 10 a piece. We were feeling completely shameless because they were that good. The sauce that came with them was a bit typical(think Leann Chin’s sweet and sour sauce or something) but I was impressed that the vegan wontons weren’t just stuffed with Tofutti. They seemed almost nutty, but I never did ask what they were filled with. By the time the rest of our food came, the calorie bombs we’d just inhaled were starting to catch up to us so we each had small portions of our meals and took the rest home. However, my dish in particular was absolutely fantastic and made a DELICIOUS lunch the next day. I love when leftovers are almost better than the original serving. Price-wise, this place is a little more expensive than what I’d normally expect. They also don’t serve alcohol — no beer, no wine, nothing — and we actually should have asked but there was no visible bathroom available so we wound up walking nextdoor to use the one at Mesa(sorry, Mesa!). However, the food was tasty and the service was great. At the very least, we’ll come back for takeout! They also deliver, but I’m unsure of their exact delivery parameters. Definitely give this place a shot the next time you’re in Dinkytown.

I walked past this place for two years without stopping. I’m moving in a few months and decided to stop in today. Simply amazing. First off, the couple who run out are really polite and have great service. I loved them. For appetizers, me and my girlfriend got cream cheese wontons and the egg rolls. Both were good but the eggs rolls were phenomenal. The best I’ve ever had. Crispy, fried, and no sogginess. Beautiful plating too. I had the beef phở. It was great. Nothing wrong. It was a huge portion that I had to force myself to stop eating because my stomach hurt. It was that good. My girlfriend got the triple platter which she really liked. We had the jackfruit smoothie too. I’ve never had jackfruit before. The smoothie was so good. So good. So good. For dessert, we had the fried bananas. Once again, do I have to say it? Delicious. Jesus. I am in love with this place. It’s so cute. It has a lot of really cool painting on the wall that looked to be originals because they’re signed«Camdi.» Everything about this place is amazing. I am kicking myself for not stopping here earlier. This place really is something special in the neighborhood. A true hole in the wall. Please support the small shop. It deserves to be overflowing with customers and appreciation. I can’t say enough good things about it.

I was really excited to try a place that advertises phở(right on the window signage) that is closer to my office than Eat Street(Quang, Phở 79). Upon arrival, I was greeted and told to pick a table, the three that were open were dirty. I decided to sit down at the least dirty of the three. I ordered the veggie egg rolls and ‘spicy chicken wings’ for appetizers. The veggie egg roll was fine, very small portions, but fine. Probably the best part of the meal. The spicy chicken wings were unrecognizable. Hacked up pieces of wings, barely any meat and not good at all. Then out comes the phở. They don’t offer the more common plate with additional things to put in your soup(bean sprouts, jalepeno, basil, cilantro, lime), instead they just put it in to your soup. I got the beef, which had terrible flavor on it’s own. The broth was bad, no flavor at all, which is maybe why it’s seasoned with pepper?! I tried to mask it with plenty of hoisin/siracha/soy but it barely did anything. Couldn’t finish more than half the bowl. Really disappointing meal. Place was dirty, food was not good. Won’t be returning.

Even though I’ve known about this Viet eatery since dem diaper days, I’ve never eaten there. This changed last week, when I made my first visit. Overall, there were some hits and misses. The owners do a great job utilizing the most out of the space. There’s plenty of seating for groups of four and art covers nearly every inch of the walls. I came in during an afternoon, and chatted it up with the couple that co-owns the joint. I asked him if they put any bot ngot(MSG) in their soups, and he simply pointed to the worn-out pots sitting on the stove, and said in Vietnamese that the broths for both phở and bun bo hue simmer every day and night somewhere between 8 – 12 hours. In other words, no bot ngot is ever needed. That’s always a great sign. I asked for his favorite, and he suggested the bun bo hue. To compliment my soup, I also ordered some egg rolls and spring rolls. *Egg Rolls: Even though I liked the pork and veggie filling, I couldn’t get past the chewy wrapping(that may have been caused from over-frying the egg rolls) that got stuck in my teeth. I expected flaky and crunchy, but got very little of those textures. Also, the fish sauce was too strong, and needs to be diluted with sugar and water. Too much fish sauce straight from the bottle.(Maybe the fish sauce with the crab on it. Not sure.) *Spring Rolls: Not as tightly wound as I like, but pretty tasty and very large. The sauce, like the egg rolls, had too much Hoisin making it salty. *Bun Bo Hue: Loved the broth! It had just the right amount of flavor, without being too salty or sweet. The noodles are thinner than the quarter inch kind, and the slices of pork and beef were standard. If you love spicy, definitely check out this dish. Service: Fast and friendly. Prices: Reasonable for the soup and slightly high for the spring rolls and egg rolls($ 4.50 range). Not sure if would return. I would consider arranging some meetings there, if it had to be on East Bank.

I really had low expectations for this place after reading the reviews on Unilocal.Let me tell you, the reviews are accurate. No offense to the owners(very friendly and adorable), the food is very expensive for what you are getting. Phở can be made as low as $ 2. Hence, by selling a bowl, they are able to take in high margins from a given sale. This is fine as a restaurant needs to make profit. However, when one sells a bowl of phở for $ 8.60-ish and give very little, that does not fly by with me. The phở also was bland, there were no bean sprouts/veggies as a side dish, and noodles were thin and cheap. Overall, I gave Camdi a chance, but I was let down.
