I ordered a broccoli tofu dish for delivery. It took so long to arrive that I ended up taking it to work the next day. When I opened the container, I saw a large chunk of tofu which looked totally raw. I heated the«dish» in the microwave and put the horrible bean sauce that came with it on top. The tofu was indeed very raw, the vegetables barely cooked and the sauce disgusting. Still I attempted to eat it since it was all I had for lunch. On about the third bite, however, I encountered something hard and jagged. It was a thick jagged piece of plastic! I threw the dish out and later called Hop Wong to speak to a manager. This was the worst experience of all. He blamed me for heating it the next day instead of eating it that night,(as if raw tofu and plastic shards taste better on the same day!). He also said, «The food is packed in plastic so sometimes it falls into the food.» Really accountable restaurant, huh? In other words I was ripped off and the manager didn’t give a crap that my food was bad and frankly, unsafe.(Jagged plastic is dangerous and raw tofu isn’t very healthy either). I now totally believe the stories about cockroaches, etc. that other reviewers have written about this place. This place is filthy, rude and irresponsible and I will forward my complaint along with a record of my phone call to this irresponsible manager and his slimy response to a valid complaint to the City’s Food Inspector. Avoid this dirty place at all costs!

I ordered about $ 60 worth of food the delivery came over 2 hours away, I was upset because I checked the food and it was cold, I told the driver and complained to him and he gave me a nasty look and said don’t order from us again then because your tip is no good I gave him $ 5. He was driving a white Nissan I would not order from this restaurant again

This is the only«Chinese» food place I order from. It’s super duper cheap, it’s delivered really quick, and everything tastes delicious. I honestly think the other reviewers just have too bourgie of taste buds; this is a ghetto cheap Chinese food spot! It’s not supposed to be gourmet, it’s supposed to be greasy/salty/fatty delicious comfort food. I recommend the cream cheese wontons, the dumplings, the lo mein, and the egg foo yung. Yum!

BEWAREOFROACHES! Let me start off by saying that I’m sad that I’m here writing a bad review vs. a good one. I have been coming to Hop Wong for 6 years and have raved and even recommended it to other people. However, over the years it seems that have gotten comfortable and in doing that their quality of everything has declined. Today was my last day going there. Upon entering a lady was handling customers orders and money while making the cheese wontons(that can’t be sanitary) all at the front desk. We ordered and sat down to wait for it… Then I saw a roach! I was immediately disgusted… Jumped up and demanded that I get my money back because I was not going to eat anything coming out of the kitchen. The lady was rushing to get me my money back to get me out of the store so that it wouldn’t effect anything else. Some guy from the back came out and killed the roach with his hands then went back to the kitchen. Some other guys came out from the back to watch and just said«oh» like it was just another roach incident. I can’t believe it has come to this but they obviously need to be shut down asap. I’m calling it in tomorrow.

Terrible Chinese food. It’s super greasy, super sweet & low quality. I’d hope such a dive would have great food but this place does not! Don’t waste your time.

My office orders from here on a regular basis. We range anywhere from 3 orders to 8. The order is usually correct, the prices are fair, and the delivery people are pleasant. On the rare instance there is a mistake, they have fixed it.

This place is a scam. They’ll take old perished food and top it off with a sliver of fresh food. Don’t let the inexpensive prices fool you, it’s not worth the cheap-quality foods.

Up until recently, the service and food quality here has been good. Last week, we ordered delivery and one of us found a piece of cellophane in their food! We called immediately and were given a credit for the cost of that entrée. The next time I called(4÷3÷15), at around 8 pm, I was told i would be given the credit listed but that my order needed to be over $ 13 — NOT including the $ 14 credit! I could, if I wanted, go to pick up the items, but that if I wanted delivery I would have to wait and call back after 9 pm!(she explained they were very busy) So, I called back at around 9:20 and re-ordered — PLUS added an additional entrée item. When our ordered arrived, this time it was missing an item we ordered! So, I called back and, after a few minutes of arguing(!) they agreed to bring the missing item! I feel this is NOT the way the situation should have been handled. We have ordered from them on a consistent basis for the past 4 years, but will not be doing that any time soon — given this latest treatment!

I ordered food it came 1 and a half hours late, I ask for discount they were very rude and said no, after eating the meal I found a hair in my food at the very end. I called them and they said since I ate most of it I can’t get a discount or refund. The food was cold and did not taste that great. I wouldn’t waste my time or money on this place

Basic, but good and cheap Chinese. I always get the mushroom egg foo young and the Garlic shrimp. The cheese wontons are also great and incredibly inexpensive. The delivery is always surprisingly quick and they certainly don’t skimp on the portions. No, it’s not healthy, but that’s like complaining about the nutritional vale of your Big Mac. I’ve ordered from here for over a year and will continue to do so due to the prices, promptness, and portion sizes.

My basic go-to Chinese take-out, dine-in and delivery. Food made fast and fresh. My boyfriend likes the chicken wings and shrimp fried rice, I like Kung Pao and the other veggie dishes. You can not beat the price(under $ 10) and location. This place has done dining room upgrades about 3 times in the two years I’ve lived near by… granted its NOT fancy but for the price, its a comfortable and casual sit-in quick stop. They are lovely people and accommodating if you have questions or want something altered. Good cheese wontons. I’ve seen them making those and the dumplings by hand. I see a lot of poor reviews… but all I can say is, this place is very reasonably priced and fast, I’ve been eating here regularly for 2+ years with no issues. Granted we know the few dishes we like and stick to them but the few times I’ve deviated I’ve still been happy. TIPS: * Going meatless /vegetarian… fried tofu and can be sub’d out in many cases. * Next to Rainbow Foods near Target on Lake and Minnehaha * No fountain drinks but a variety of canned and bottle pops(orange pop anyone?!) * If your frightened by the reviews here I would also recommend VILLAGEWOK… or HONGKONGNOODLE, a bit more but def worth it!

Ordered the Seafood Delight which claims it has King Crab. It is processed white fish… the same stuff you find in a grocery store. Called to mention this and the woman said they were in the process of changing their menu but offered no discount or refund. The rest of what we had was mediocre. Definitely not worth the time. Even after I said I was going to rate this, nothing was done. Don’t waste your time. Can’t trust what they are putting in their food.

I was visiting family in the area and it was suggested we get take out from Hop Wong. This should be called, «How Wrong». I freely admit I am not a big fan of Chinese food and it is places like this that do nothing to change my mind. The egg rolls were basically fried rot. I would not even want my worst enemy to eat that stuff. The rest of the food was not very good at all.

Last Thursday was my Mother’s Birthday and I bought her dinner from Hop Wong since neither of us was in the mood to go out. We ordered online and while we meant to order General Tso’s Chicken we mistakenly ordered General Tso’s Beef. However what was delivered was Orange Beef. When I called to complain that the wrong thing was delivered the woman who answered said, «You ordered beef you got beef, what’s the problem?» I then had to justify why I wanted them to redeliver the food. In addition to this the food was of poor quality I got fried baby shrimp that was over breaded and burned at the same time and cream cheese won tons had a strange taste… it might have been onion and were soggy. I think it is time to find a new Chinese restaurant.

Tried for first and last time today(should have checked Unilocal review prior to placing order). The food is as bland as it gets. The only reason to order from here is the online order tool with convenience of delivery. Their website has a slick online order system which i would like to see more delivery places use. You can order with a couple clicks and food arrives within 30 min. That’s about as good as this review is going to get. The food is poor and bland: Hunan chicken — Hunan is supposed to be a dry(ish) chicken dish with spicy/sweet flavor. This hunan chicken here is wet and bland as can be. No flavor at all. It looked and tasted just like my friends order of Szechuan(which is supposed to be wet and really spicy but was also bland) Sweet and sour soup — The dreaded snotty texture. no flavor Wontons — soggy but decent This is a fast food version of(American) Chinese food.

OMG. Yuk. Seriously if there was a Chinese food place that I would run from, this one would be it. My day job orders from this place, so I have no real choice when they order for delivery, except maybe to not eat for the day. But thanks to the economy, more of us have less extra spending cash, so I can avoid the issue of being involved in the«Chinese Food Triangle» when work actually does order this — — stuff. Normally I would say that this place is alright, but I’ve gotten far too ill from their food to even give them that much. I’ve had everything from bad pork to an actual fly in my food. I would normally at this stage mention something from the menu and let you know what I thought and if the staff is nice and treats you right, but seriously, I can’t. I just can’t find enough bad things to actually say about this place. So on that note — I don’t even recommend this place to check out on your own. I really wouldn’t want the responsibility of your illness on my hands.

Hop Wong is alright. For one, they deliver. If there are other Chinese restaurants in the Twin Cities that do so I’m not aware of them, so that’s working in their favor. Two, you get a lot of food for a reasonable price. Stephanie R. and I downed 2 orders of Sesame Chicken and a side of Chicken Lo Mein for lunch and it only cost $ 18(excluding tip) for the lot of it. I can’t say I enjoyed the food as much as I was hoping to though. The Chicken Lo Mein was a little soggy while the Sesame Chicken was a little tough and blah. I prefer Shuang Cheng if I’m in the Dinkytown area or Cleveland Wok if I’m in St. Paul.

I am not going to be a snob and say that I won’t chow down on a cream cheese puff or two from Hop Wong, when my dad offers it to be for free. Or even a little Sesame Chicken. But this stuff is… not worth it. It all sort of tastes the same, and that, combined with a certain gooey texture makes Hop Wong towards the bottom of the list of foods that I would actually choose to eat. …But at least they deliver? And you can even order online… fancy!
