This was my favorite Mexican place around, Boca Chica is the only other restaurant I know in the area that is similar in style of food(upscale authentic, family recipes, lots of green chile and cactus). I guess it went downhill towards the end of its life, but was quite good for many years prior. Eat Street Social now occupies this space after a long period of vacancy(sort of like how the US now occupies much of what used to be Mexico). Sometimes on Unilocal people review a restaurant and complain about it because they loved the restaurant that used to be in that location but closed. But I want both Eat Street Social and Morelos, can you do that?

I’ll admit I am not a Mexican food lover. Here is why, what is a taco made of? Tortilla, meat, cheese, salsa. Now what is a burrito made of? How about a Chimichanga? Ooo Ooo what about a burrito? Get the picture. Anyway I still try Mexican food because my family loves it and we happened upon Taco Morales many years ago and I actually liked it. The atmosphere was totally Mexican hole in the wall, tiled tables squished seating, inexpensive which is the part I do love about Mexican restaurants but it had something else in the food that I actually recommended to people and took people who love Mexican food there. We went there a couple months ago and noticed they expanded. It lost its feel the service was bad, plates and silverware were dirty. The food was twice as much and it was just not the same. Even my wife said she didn’t like it. She loves all Mexican food. I don’t know but I won’t be back for a long time maybe sorry can’t recommend it any more.

Please let it be known that this place used to kick ass. Great food and outdoor seating. Came here about a month ago and after we sat down our group was informed that they had let their alcohol license lapse so no beer or margaritas. Not that we are a bunch of lushes, but we like a little drink with our tortillas, so we left for Salsa a la Salsa. Since they said they were getting it soon, we thought great, we’ll be back. Fast forward 6 weeks. Again, party sits down outside and same thing… no margaritas or beer. No license. «Why» I asked«You were supposed to get it a month ago». I was told the woman(owner Im assuming) doesn’t want to pay for it and wants to sell the place. I was soooo bummed. Then the server explained that now business is really slow. No sh*t, I thought. Summertime + Mexican — Alcohol = Broke. This was one of the best Mexican places in Mpls and I’m sad that it’s slowly being run into the ground because they just don’t want to be bothered with it anymore. Should sell quickly, though, I assume. Location is pretty good.
