I used to get sandwiches here, and soon they will be closing I fear. The scene was hip, with lots to sip, But can’t say I’ll be shedding too large a tear.

Stopping here on Friday morning for breakfast has been kind of a ritual for me the past several months. No more. Its very unfortunate that the food and coffee are so good, but the service is so bad. This morning I had to wait 15 minutes, missing my train, only to be given the wrong order. The cashier argued with me, and the guy working the kitchen gave no apology, just snatched the wrong food and stormed back to the kitchen. Another five minutes, and I was given the correct order by a girl with an icy cold stare and a flat voice. No apology from anyone at any time. You’d think a Christian-run coffee would teach their employees something about humility, but apparently they skipped that part of the training. I forgive the three sour-pusses working this morning, but I won’t be returning.

My favorite coffee shop in Minneapolis. Their coffee is simply superb. However they also have an awesome breakfast collection that I cannot recommend enough. They have ample parking and the baristas are just very nice. It feels good to tip them well! As they say«it is not Starbucks but it is full of people who used to go to Starbucks».

Good coffee– crappy baristas. I have gone to overflow now for one year as my son attends the daycare next door. I have been a paying customer and have spent a lot of money supporting this coffee shop. I look forward to having coffee in the morning or before I pick him up so I go to Overflow. The staff since the beginning, has been nothing but rude and pretentious. They barely say hello to you, have never thanked me or even started a conversation considering I have been there at least three times a week for a better part of a year. I was just in there moments ago. The barista barely spoke to me and acted completely annoyed when I inquired about the scones and later a to go bag for my scone. I am done supporting this shop. I have never been treated so poorly. Today was the last straw. The terrible thing is– the coffee is really good so if you can stomach rude and pretentious staff– this place is for you. Update: so I decided to call the Manager of the establishment and give him some feedback about my experiences. The person who answered the telephone said to call back after 2pm or 4pm as this is when he would be available and could not talk at any point before that because he was ‘busy.’ She didn’t check to see if he could take a call– she just stated this to me. It is 9:45am. I guess this tells you something about their customer service and their strive to make customers satisfied.

Great café to work, chill or meet friends. I usually go here before I go to the TCF Stadium for Gopher games and now Viking games. Clean bathrooms and strong coffee makes for an amazing experience for me. Plus they have an upstairs area I like and outdoor seating when it’s nice out.

Great coffee house for studying! I’ve been enjoying the white mocha(quite tasty!) and the poppy seed muffins are utterly delicious! I drove over twenty minutes out of my way just to come back to this place. You can get a nice breakfast latte + muffin and study for a couple of solid hours and grab a sandwich or wrap for lunch. Very nice environment that allows you to focus and get things done! I’ll definitly be returning!

One of my favorite cafés in the twin cities, not for their coffee(which is great) but for their food. I almost always get the same thing: the turkey cranberry panini. It’s EXCELLENT. The turkey+fruit sandwich is an increasingly popular trope in cafés everywhere, and this is the best I’ve had anywhere. The café itself is pleasantly situated, with outdoor seating as well as two levels of indoor tables(including coveted seats next to the fireplace – anticipate these being taken during the winter) If you’re in the area and need coffee or a bite to eat, Overflow is a solid pick.

I walked in to this place because I was supposed to see a friend. It was hot, and I didn’t really feel like coffee. My eyes fell upon this beverage called«Rose Lemonade.» I know what you are thinking, rose flavored lemonade? Roses smell like poo poo. But oh… oh how you would be wrong. I am hooked. I don’t know what’s in the rose lemonade other than good old fashioned lemons and what they call their«rose flavoring,» but at this point it really doesn’t matter. I love coffee. I do. It just does not take over my mind at Overflow as much as the rose lemonade does during the warmer months and it is just borderline ridiculous how far out of the way I will go to get it. If they sold it in a growler I would buy it. Enough the slightly over obsessed raving about the dang lemonade. The atmosphere is perfect for studying or chatting with your friends. The staff is unpretentious and helpful, it really gives you the small business feel and warmth. Highly recommended but sometimes they have construction right around there… that makes it seem like you are about to go do a rally race into the lot off-road style… but for that rose lemonade… I shall overcome.

Stopped by for a change in study space and found this gem. They serve the best white hot chocolate around hands down. Great ambiance and friendly baristas as well.

Christian rock… It’s not my favorite genre of music, mainly because it reminds me of puke-in-my-mouth shows such as 7th Heaven and One Tree Hill(where people cry throughout each episode while emo music tirelessly plays in the background). But despite this sin(get it?), I think Overflow is great because 1) the music wasn’t obscenely loud and 2) there’s a loft! Loft is def. a redeeming quality. And there are other things I like, too. I soooo wanted to try their coffee, but I knew any cup of joe past 5 pm would’ve caused me to twist and turn in my bed until 4 in the morn. So, I went with their chai latte and an apple fritter for a snack. Overall, both were absolutely tasty, especially the candy-sweet fritter that caused me to lick all of the decadent frosting off of my fingers. Other tidbits: –Their seriously strong wifi rocks, and it doesn’t require a password.(Woot woot!) –Are their bathroom sinks from the future?(See pic uploaded.) –The woman behind the counter was very nice. I’ll definitely be back, if I’m ever in the area. Oh – and if you’re wondering where I hunkered down to pound out some work, I, of course, sat in the loft.

What a pleasant surprise! I don’t catch myself in the neighborhood often, and have always loved Cupcake nearby. But Overflow has it all! Affable baristas Ample Chairs/tables Daily chalkboard specials for grub indoor coffee mug water fountain! Broad selection of drinks(seasonal and teas) The above combination of charm, quality, convenience, value, and friendliness has convinced me to run more errands on University Ave!

I used to work in a building really close to here, it’s the only coffee shop in walking distance, but after visiting I found it was worthwhile for more reasons than just the convenience. Overflow is basically on top of the Prospect Park green line stop. Their chai is delicious and reasonably priced. They have a second floor loft type seating area as well as spacious and comfy seating on their first floor. Bike parking and a huge patio(when weather permits of course… this is Minnesota, after all). Two thumbs up, Overflow!

Years ago when Overflow first opened I tried to sample on their first week. There was one person ahead of me and it took about 7 minutes for me to get what turned out to be a weak dark roast. I vowed never to patronize this place again. Skip to present day. I was in the area and figured that’s long ago let’s try again. This is an attractive place to a point. The counter is cramped looking but the large wall menu is nicely categorized and easy to read. This time has to be better? There was one person ahead of me and one barista on duty, although other employees were cramped into a break room off the kitchen. Evidently they don’t stagger breaks too well. I waited close to 7 minutes to place an order for a dark roast which turned out to be like your mom’s instant Sanka. Deja-Vu dudes. I did enjoy the outdoor patio and the heavy wrought iron chairs that have a slight rocking motion if you desire. This place might make a cool restaurant eventually but they would have to chop the interior to make some decent kitchen space. I sipped some of the weak brew and watched the Green Line trains roll in and out(some interesting people watching at the LRT platform). Dumped the remainder of the coffee and left.

Excellent service, but why does my vanilla latte taste of acorn squash? Something is amiss.

I worked across the street for over a year. It took me about 6 months but I finally got the polite, yet stoic coffee dude to genuinely smile at me when I would pop in to order my 3rd chai latte with soy in one week. VICTORY! They also started giving me extra chips! I really like the feel of the place from the loft to the fireplace to the coffee cup foundation covered in quotes. It is a good, cozy atmosphere. The drinks are yummy. I would suggest looking at their seasonal list. I am a big fan of their chai-der(cider & chai) and the summertime strawberry crème soda. Baked goods are pretty yummy. The food is fresh, although a tad bit overpriced. Oh, but their chips are magical. Seriously, I don’t know what they put on them but it has been scientifically proven that it is impossible to not love them. So. Good.

Space– better than the Purple Onion. I love the loft and working fire place, natural light, and parking lot. Plus free wifi. Food — They offer daily specials. My favorite is the Monday and Sunday deal on the caesar wrap. It’s warm chicken wrapped with mixed greens and the lightest touch of dressing in a tortilla shell; it’s just the right amount of food to not put me in a coma while studying, and it’s $ 4.95. Also, I would highly recommend adding the chips, I have no idea what the favor is but they are addictive and for 80 cents you can’t say no. I’m not a coffee drinker so I have nothing to say on that front. I have two cons. Overflow shuts down at 9 pm every night. It’s a clean space but near the end of the evening there’s an overwhelming smell of floor cleaner, like someone spilled pine sol up my noise and I’m choking on it. Beyond trying to call it a night before that happens, this is my go to spot for studying from now on.

I’ve been here probably a dozen times over the past few years. As we’ve established in my previous reviews, I am not a coffee connoisseur. I like dark drip coffee, preferably extra strong with lots of caffeine. This place meets this basic requirement, although the coffee could be a smidge stronger. Recently, I ordered a hot tea instead of coffee. They had a decent selection of teas(again, not a tea expert — just what I drink when I’m trying to avoid coffee breath) but they gave it to me in a to-go cup without asking if I was staying or going. This created the awkward«where do I put my teabag» as I had no saucer. I certainly could have asked for one… but as I lack planning skills, I had already lifted the teabag out of my drink before realizing I had no where to put it. Anyway, a real cup/saucer is always appreciated if I’m staying. The baked good selection(and let’s be honest, that’s really why I come to coffee shops) is lacking. Think cookies and some rice krispy treats. Not bad, but I like variety and options. The service here is usually pretty good, they’re prompt and polite. No complaints. Décor is modern-ish, although not as cozy as I like my coffee shops. It can be kind of echoy/loud in there if people are having an animated conversation. After skimming the the other reviews, I am hesitant to come back here if the owner is actively pro-abstinence only education. Abstinence only education flat out does not work, and I don’t care to spend my money in places that support it in any way. You might feel differently, which is great. Just my personal views. I’ll be doing my own research on this to determine if the owner actually does support abstinence only education, and I suggest you do the same rather than just accepting what’s on Unilocal.I will add that the name of this place and some images on the website are vaguely religious as well.

I like the Overflow Café because it’s close to my work, a quick drive and you’re there. I really enjoy their Cinnamon Bun Latte, and their Thai Peanut Chicken wrap is delicious! I also enjoy their brewed coffee, however — sometimes it’s too strong and I am a fan of strong coffee so that’s saying something. No worries though, I will still drink it! I love the large teacup in the middle of the café — reminds me of the Mad Hatter’s tea party! The fireplace is also quite cozy from October — April. I am quite sure I just had the most delicious Chai Latte of my entire life here — so, I will happily continue to frequent this establishment.
