If you haven’t been here yet… go! Went here on a weekday night and the place was full of dining buddies, workers having meetings, and solo trekkers enjoying themselves over a nice meal and book. You see it all here, which makes it all the better. Didn’t have any problem with street parking and walking in, found that there was ample seating inside too. It is deceptively small from the outside, but you’ll see that there are plenty of tables and booths(which are large enough to sit two parties of two if you’d like to make a friend). Happy hour goes until 6pm, and my dining pal and I ordered our drinks(Summit for me and cider for her) at 6:05 so just barely missed it. You take a menu on your way in and a slip of paper to write your order down. The staff behind the counter didn’t seem very patient with us for not knowing this, but that’s ok. No hard feelings. They call your name and up you go to pick up your plate. This menu though. It was so hard to choose but I ended up getting the«make-your-own-grilled-cheese» option, with pesto, mushrooms, kale, and tomato. For $ 1.50 extra, I opted to get a side salad which was a little tiny but worth it. My friend got the macaroni and cheese which was served with broccoli and chives. I tried it, and while it was quite good, my grilled cheese was fantastic. Lots of vegan and vegetarian options, which while I am neither, still appreciate this. I love the vibe of this place, and the hanging pictures of dogs on the wall can’t go without note. Next time I’ll be sure to take a seat on their patio to soak up the good earthy vibes. Anyway, this will definitely be a repeat place for me, with plenty to try on the menu and all for a decent price.

Went here today. I think I had a very mixed experience. Can’t call it bad, but not great either. Probably after reading the other reviews, I was expecting the place to blow my mind off. Its a great place if you are a vegan or a vegetarian. The patio is a fun place to hang out. The good part is, its nice to fill out your own sheet, the portion sizes are good. I think what it missed is taste. The food was pretty bland and service is really SLOW. We had the B&G deluxe and buckwheat pancake. The buckwheat pancake was good. The B&G deluxe was just about okay. I have surely had better vegetarian biscuits and and gravy and the juice we ordered was not freshly squeezed, it was from concentrate. Probably not what I excepted from a place which promotes healthy food. The interior ambience was a little dirty, could have been kept a little cleaner. The chair I tried to sit on was broken. Overall I must say, this place is still worth trying for the fact they have so many vegen and vegetarian options May go back and try and order something different on the menu.

This is my go-to breakfast spot. I am literally obsessed with their earth breakfasts. It’s the perfect marriage of eggs and hash browns. I always make it a green earth — add a little steamed broccoli on top to make me feel extra healthy. If I ate dairy, I’m sure I would love the super earth breakfast too. The cheese just looks like it’s the right amount of melty. I love that they offer half portions of their earth breakfast and have vegan options available as well. We’ve also stopped by for a hummus and pita plate to complement the sunny afternoon PBR on the patio. Their hummus was literally the smoothest I have ever tasted. I wanted a second plate, but opted for a second beer.

Anarchist punk organic and fairly traded since the 1970s, I’m pretty sure Against Me! could write an entire album about this place. Ordering here couldn’t be more complicated as you have to write out every item you want to order but alas you just have to give in and say thank you that cafes with this much spirit and character still exist. The prices are reasonable and the food is fine(I’ve had chili and a few egg scrambles) but the left inspired Seward neighborhood atmosphere is what really makes this place great.

I have been here a few times and always like it just fine but am never wowed. I find the staff unfriendly and the food pretty average. The atmosphere is cool, though, and I do think it has a good vibe. This most recent time, my mother, young son, and I went for breakfast. The woman at the counter was not warm or nice. But she got the job done. I ordered the Huevos Rancheros Deluxe, my mom had the Hashbrowns Supreme, and my son had hashbrowns and bacon. Everything was fine. The Huevos were kind of different. Lots of tomatoes and beans proportionate to everything else. Not my favorite but certainly wasn’t horrible. Everything else was also fine. If I were managing the place, I would put a bit more pizazz in the food and coach the staff on making people feel welcome. Do that and I could st least give 4 stars.

Ok, I can’t even begin. Favorite restaurant in Minneapolis. I can’t tell you how many times i’ve walked in, hazy-eyed still drunk from the night before, and 10⁄10 times you’ve cured my hangover. I’m vegan and this menu is off the fuckkkinnggg chain! I don’t ever know what to get, so I always get two meals. The hibiscus mimosas have quite literally saved a life or two. I took my homie there for his birthday, he was blown away. The atmosphere is legit as alllllll hellllllll. And i’m loving’ the outdoor seating. Your cookies are to die for, and your peoples are friendly. Love the local art, love your food, love y’all. Never close.

Homemade salsa is the best I’ve had! The tacos are great, as well as the non dairy root beer float. I’ve tried all of the meat options here and most of the vegan options with my bestfriend, and it’s all great! I’ll never get sick of this place. The fresh bakery items are amazing as well, just all around a fantastic place, highly recommended!

Omg their breakfast. That’s all. S’good! I really like their nachos(i veganize them), too. I come here about 4 times a week haha help me! But, my only complaint would be that certain cooks really slack on the portion sizes. I’ve actually got it down to a T which cooks will give me like 3 beans on my nachos and which ones give you a really good amount. Great prices and love that their 75% organic! It’s a great place for people watching, as well ;)

This is my local, organic, free range review of Seward Café. Really neat diner in the Seward neighborhood. There’s lots of vegetarian and vegan options, but they also have meat! Everything at Seward Café appears to be organic, free range, etc… they make a point of putting one of those buzz words in every menu description. Personally, I don’t care for organic eats, but organic or not, the food here was delicious. The buckwheat pancake was enormous — you probably will only need one, but if you’re super hungry, get 2, but don’t blame me if you can’t finish it. I added chocolate chips to mine which I thought was necessary. The side of hashbrowns look delicious, and they are, except towards the end when you’re done with the crispy stuff and only greasy potatoes are left. But they have to be my 2nd favorite hashbrowns in Minneapolis right now(Al’s is #1). Lastly, the bacon was expensive, but super meaty. Make a trip to the bathroom. I didn’t get to, but I hear you can write on the walls! ooooo… fun!

WARNING both times I’ve been here there has been a cook with a sleeveless shirt on, so unless you want hipster sweat and armpit hairs in your food, I advise not to eat here

Everytime I go to Seward, it takes me a century to place my order. Why? Well, their menu isn’t that massive, but they have so many tempting choices that I always hesitate to decide what I want to try! So long I can say that I’m satisfied with every food and drink that I’ve tried. The portions are big(I usually walk out pretty full) and the prices more than reasonable. The food is tasty, homemade and particular, without being too naïve. The only negative thing I can say about it, is that the plate’s presentation is often underrated — but the moment you start eating your meal and liking it, you easily don’t care much more about it. I honestly like the«DIY» kind of service: pick a menu, choose what you want, write items and your name on one of their pieces of paper, give it to the cashier, pay and wait for the call. It gives me the proper time to think about what my stomach is craving for, without anxiety. The café has plenty of spaces, both inside and outside, but I have a complaint: there aren’t many wall sockets around! I usually go there with my computer to get some work done, and I always sit at the same booth for that reason. Other than that, is a nice place to work or study — just consider that it becomes a little crowded/noisy around 11 – 13. They also have drinks HH from 3, but I’ve never stayed after that time. The location is a bit far away from Dowtonw/Uptown, but still reachable in a few minutes with car or bike(and they have parking lots). The restrooms are decent, they may enjoy a little renovation but i like the chalkboards in there. I already know that I’ll be back for my fourth time as soon as I can.

If I had written a review after my first experience here, it would have got 4 stars. After my second experience, it’s down to two. Pros: There’s a great menu with plenty of healthy/vegan options. The prices are reasonable. There’s great outdoor seating; it’s cozy and feels secluded. They play good music. Cons: The customer service. During my last visit, I was overcharged. When I brought this to the cashier’s attention, she became really confused. She called over a man to help her figure it out. As they searched through receipts, and the woman kept making excuses as to how the overcharge occurred, a long line formed behind me. By the end of it, I was just as confused as they were.(Perhaps it’s time to update to a better system.) They both seem inconvenienced by the ordeal and no one even apologized to me.

Only went here because I needed to find a vegan friendly place when I flew into Minneapolis for the first time. It reminded me of being in a third world country, dirty, no a/c, weird layout, etc. Food was ok, edible, nothing great at all. Oh well.

Plenty of seating. Credit cards accepted about 3.50 minimum. You order by writing on a slip that you hand to cashier when paying. They will call your name when the order is ready. Boardgames in the back if you come with a small party. Parking lot in the back, and an outdoor patio with benches. Wins: –Bottomless coffee for less than $ 2. –Juniper bar –Unicorn cupcake –Grilled Cheese — that herb bread is to die for –Nachos –Weekend night live music Cons: –Service is variable – My friend ordered her grilled cheese 30 minutes before me. We got our orders exactly the same time. They apparently lost her order, as our friend who ordered between us got hers way earlier than both our sandwiches. –Coming towards end of the day means your booth might be dirty given they did not clean any tables the entire time we were there.

I have this ongoing joke where I ask my friends if they’ve heard of the seward café. If they say no, game on. I tell them all about this fancy little café, you feel like you’re in Paris, wonderful clean cut staff. Their reactions when we walk in are priceless every time. Usually a lot of laughing… Gotcha! This place is honestly a sh*t hole(except the food). I won’t sit at a table before giving it a good wipe down. You know the staff never performs this basic duty. I honestly wonder how they pass a health inspection. Or do they? But it is such a cool place to people watch and really feel connected to the seward neighborhood. All the artwork on the wall is hilarious(the wall of dogs?). The staff is sweaty and hungover but I don’t care. You have to do everything your self here. You write down your order(or else they’d completely screw it up), you have to get your silverware and pour your water yada yada, you have to retrieve your food when it’s done. No, actually you have to watch like a hawk for your food to be ready. They don’t call your name or call the food that’s up, the dude just sets it on the counter in the back corner of the café and then goes and finishes his two hearted or cigarette. You just have to assume they’re doing something they shouldn’t be while cooking your food. But alas, you have your food and it is delicious. Great place to go for organic and vegan grub, a lot of it is probably local too. Get the buckwheat pancake. Or split it with a friend, its big. You really can’t go wrong on the menu. Everything is affordable. I love knowing my $ 12 is going to help some punk-rocker barely pay rent. The neighborhood, the people, and the huevos rancheros keep me coming back.

Most excellent and tasty food for both breakfast and dinner. Recently ate dinner here twice and got their broccoli and tofu bowl both times. Very tasty, filling, and healthy. Their breakfast foods are hard to beat, especially their pancakes! Sometime, I’d like to hang out there in the evening and partake in an impromptu bonfire in their back garden area… this place reminds me so much of a small town in Alaska where I spent a few days one summer.

I was confused and did not realize they had a menu – only the chalkboard that had a special of the day and a soup. I was starving so I quickly ordered a soup and found a table. It was listed as veggie soup. I got a bowl of tomato based broth with onions a few carrot slices and some kale. I ate every bite and it was hot and flavorful. The service was decent but not overly solicitous. It appears this place gets a diverse range of people that choose to hang here so pretty cool if you want to relax read a book eat drink and people watch.

I’ve been coming here since high school. It was the first place I ever went to that had a vegan section on the menu. At the time I was just finding out about veganism and didn’t understand what the deal was, but shortly thereafter took it up and found myself returning to the Seward time and again with other vegans and nonvegans alike to sate our hunger for delicious hippie home-cooking. In my 20s I found myself addicted to the fluffy vegan pancakes, though everything else I tried was also good. Now I am older and have food intolerances and still I come here, because there are still a lot of options. There are still vegan fluffy pancakes, though they have gluten. There is a vegan, gluten-free pancake, though it has soy in it. If you want to avoid soy and wheat like I do, the super earth breakfasts are lovely and very customizable. There are always two kinds of bottomless refill tea available, one herbal and one caffeinated. There are also a bunch of loose-leaf teas in big jars on the wall, and for these I recommend sticking to the greens and oolongs as the black teas aren’t fantastic. The almond oolong is particularly nice. There is also coffee, some very nice juice, sodas, and other non-coffee hot beverages which can be made with various kinds of milk. I still have not been here for dinner. I will update this review once I have. A note about the ordering: this is café style, hence the name, so you go in, read a menu, and write your order on a piece of paper. Be sure to put down any substitutions or allergies, whether you want dairy or soy butter, and any other specifications. When your food is ready, someone from the kitchen will call your name over the loudspeaker to come and get it, so if you have a short name or a name that’s easily confused you can write something a little longer — «Future President Sarah Jones» or «Marceline the Vampire Queen» or «I am Spartacus» are good, but don’t be mean to the kitchen staff and put«raxacoricofallapatorius» or other things that are hard to pronounce. Recommendations: there is a really good selection of fruit if you want a side of fruit or fruit in your pancakes.
