I’ve been eating at the Mishawaka, IN location on the regular for a few years and always loved it. But over the past few months, a few changes have taken place at the restaurant, most recently — and disappointingly — the flavor. I used the same ingredients that I usually do, and it tasted vaguely of wet dirty socks. My friend’s stir fry tasted similarly bad, and she used completely different ingredients. The potstickers also had a hint of staleness about them. I went back the next week, hoping maybe the kitchen just had a bad day. Nope. Still tasted pretty awful. Someone please bring back my yummy stir frys! :(

It had been a long time since we had eaten here. It will be a long time before we go back. They now portion control very carefully how much meat you can have. You have to preorder it and you only get so much. Also the bowl they give you for your veggies and rice/noodles is much smaller. The veggies are actually cut larger making it more difficult to cram more into the bowl. Ultimately just not worth the cost.

I always have great service here! Food is great, it better be I choose my ingredients so what can I say!!! Only downfall is location I hate going to the mall because it’s always busy and I feel like I’m eating in a fish bowl with people staring at me while I eat!

We use to come here ALLLLLLL the time! Especially when we were biking in the area. We would come post training and especially post racing with all our friends. It was always a great place to get a fast healthy meal. Until… They changed! I’m not exaggerating when I say we were here sometimes 4x a week and we live almost an hour away! First, they got rid of my husband’s favorite sauce. Then, they made it where you can’t select your own meat. So we haven’t and probably won’t be back. Would have gotten 5 stars before the change but not now. Sorry

First time… not the last! Great food and service from Brena was tremendous. This Unilocal app is terrible. I tried to post but the app won’t let me finish my review.

Came for the first time in a year and this place has degraded into some kind of atrocious excuse for a restaurant. The first plate used to cost around 12 dollars and with 4 more dollars it used to be as many plates as you can. However now it costs 12.99 to get my third plate. Are you serious??? Id rather go to Mongolian barbecue and get food from there. I would not recommend this franchise if this keeps up. I cannot wrap my head around this idea to extort money from poor college students. I ate here because we already sat down and ordered food however if i had a time machine i would stop myself from taking a step into this mall. When we got our food they forgot one of our bread additions and another friend had some other food mixed in with their plate. Now im a reasonable guy and can allow a little mix up but this was one too many for us.

We really enjoyed ourselves. One of the few Best restaurants we’ve dined at since we arrived in Indy. There’s not to many Great Restaurants to consider in the area, so finding a Clean, Good, Quality Restaurant is defiantly worth writing a review on. Our waitress Kristin was wonderful and very helpful, she walked us through the entire process. I even learned how to put as much as I could in my bowl so that I wouldn’t have to order a second round. If you’ve ever dined at Mongolian’s Grill in the greater Detroit area, this experience is very much the same. Fresh ingredients, clean restaurant, fast service. I would return. 5 Stars!!!

The food is great! Though the atmosphere is somewhat fast-paced, it’s still relaxing. Too bad one of the employees shatter the mood with his tuneless whistling.

I really love the concept of Flat Top and the food is usually pretty good here. The service is hit or miss though and that keeps me from loving this place or making it a regular stop for some food. When you walk in, you are instructed to find the hostess and wait to be seated. The waitress is willing to explain the process to you and it goes a little something like this: Tell your server what protein you want(chicken, steak, pork, or shrimp– shrimp is extra) then, go build your own bowl to have cooked by the grill. Because the bowls are rather small, there is definitely a technique to filling it up– which I haven’t quite mastered yet. If you like bulkier veggies and toppings(like broccoli, those little mini corn cobs, pea pods, peppers, etc) then you’ll be able to get very few of those items into your bowl. It stinks because I LOVE broccoli, but I usually have to skimp on it in order to fit some other things into my bowl. Once you are finished trying to stuff your bowl with enough food to fill you up, you walk over to a counter where there are colored plastic sticks. Each color indicates a special note to the cook. I usually pick the sticks that give me eggs, cheese, and pita bread. Sometimes the pita bread is greasy and sorta mushy… but I take my chances anyway. Then you go sit down and wait for your food to be cooked. Once your meal is done, the waitress brings it to you. Overall, the food is pretty tasty. So, even though it isn’t quite enough to eat, you leave feeling somewhat happy. This is not a staple in our list of restaurants we choose to eat at… but if we are in the area and are in the mood to mix it up every once in a while, we’ll probably keep giving flat top a chance.

This place has gone downhill. The service was slow and our waitress seem to be annoyed when I asked her where my beer was after 10 min. Also he restaurant 2as petty dirty

I’m a big flat top fan. They have plenty of vegan options. I love making my own bowl and trying to pack as much stuff as I can in it. They’ve changed the line to make it more clean. The sauces are no longer ladle, they are in easy to pour jars. The meat is no longer on the line. Service is generally good here.

My husband said it wasn’t enough food. To get enough food in the bowl he would have to do an impressive balancing act. I was unimpressed by the roti. As a Trinidadian I was excited to roti on an American menu outside of Brooklyn and as a Trinidadian I was less then impressed at the result. I understand the desire to make a traditional recipe your own, «east indian fusion» if you will, but roti is meant to be the size of a burrito tortilla and last the whole plate, not the size of taco shell and barely get you through the first few bites. The taste of the food was good and the coconut curry sauce was delightful, but I don’t see us coming back.

The good: very cool concept, fresh food, modern ambience The bad: kinda pricey, inattentive staff It’s awesome that your whole dish is entirely customizable. They go to great efforts to cater to food allergies as well. I wouldn’t go any time other than lunch, because it’s too expensive otherwise. The biggest problem however, was that the serving staff was not on point. Most noticeably when our food was ready and sat on the counter for five minutes. When my boyfriend went to grab it himself, he was shooed away and someone else came and brought it later.

I’m searching for great food in the South Bend area being a big foodie I take my meals and service seriously. As soon as I walked in I was greeted and seated at the bar. It being my first time at the flat top grill I was confused but multiple staff members helped to walk me through the process. I’ll defined be back because at the end of the day it comes down to the food and it was beyond great!

I always forget how Flat Top works, but I also always find the waitresses very willing to re-explain it. I just ask. The prickly pear lemonade or what-ever it is, is delicious. Yeah, it’s pricey, but as an occasional thing, I enjoy it,

Really very surprised to see 2.5 stars… we come here about once per month. It IS a chain restaurant but for 10.00−13.00 per person the food is worth it. It is Mongolian style grill. You fill your bowl with veggies, noodles, rice, sauces, etc… They sauté it all up for you with your choice of meats. You can change it up for lettuce wraps, tacos, etc. The food bar can get messy and there is often a line when it is busy, but other than that we have no complaints. If you have eaten at a Mongolian grill before, this won’t disappoint you for the price.

Maybe I’m being too harsh because I’ve been to multiple Chicago locations of this chain, but this particular Flat Top was hands down the worst I’ve been to. 1) THESERVICE — walked in about 7:45 on a Wednesday. There were maybe 20 other patrons there. It took us about 5 minutes to get somebody’s attention to get sat. The hostess walked us to three different tables before we actually sat. As she took us on this«table tour» we noticed so many tables that needed to be clean. While I don’t know what took place before we got there, I do know that when we arrived, the restaurant was close to being empty and there were about 10 people working so to have tables like this still a mess is just lazy. Once we sat, it took another 10 minutes or so to be greeted by our server, which luck would have it, was the table tour guide hostess. I’m not sure if it was her first day on the job, but she was clueless and struggled with every question we asked. After ordering she did check in two times. 2) THEBAR — I’m talking about the bar with all of the sauces and vegetables. It was disgusting. While the complete offering of vegetables were there, most bins were either empty or had a mixture of the bins from either side incorporated. And when we got down to where the sauces were, it looked like a crime scene. Things were dropping, there were sauce splatters all over the floor/glass of bar, and almost every bottle had sauce running down it so it got all over your hands when you picked it up. I understand that things like this are some what expected when going to a place like this, however with the restaurant empty and a majority of staff just hanging around the grill, it seems like a waste of payroll. 3) THEFOOD– only reason this place got 2 stars is because the food is good. Overall, Flat Top is a fun place to bring a date and to just go to in general. The food is delicious and there are so many options, you can make it almost impossible to ever have the same meal. However, this location I would not recommend visiting. Service is a joke and unless you enjoy eating in a mess like a little pig, it’s completely unappetizing.

Great food, outstanding sauces and really helpful staff made this outing very nice. Destinay(sorry if spelled wrong) was our server/waitress tonight, not only energetic but very patient with us newbies. She had a wonderful personality that put us at ease and certainly made our evening enjoyable. Robbie was also a huge part of this awesome dining experience, I had left a valuable item on our table when we left. I was unaware of this and only discovered the missing item a while later. We went back to the restaurant and asked about the item, not only had Robbie found it, he placed it in their office for safekeeping! Wow! Great people, great food and honesty. Enjoy this establishment folks, it’s worth the trip!
