We need an option to exceed the 5 stars for David alone! He truly is the epitome of the best costumer service one can offer. I continually come back with more friends just because of him and then they come back as well. Moral of the story, David is awesome!

Very disappointing. Very, very noisy. Food was not very good. Our sushi chef did not give us anything when the patrons around us were all given a starter. We sat for a long time before we were waited on.

This place without Rigo is nothing. Seriously, all chefs are fine, but he is something else. He makes you feel like he loves the job he does and doesnt just do it to get the next order. He gives each plate what it deserves. Very friendly and the fooood is so damn good. He does it like no one else. Ive tried a couple. He is the best, ask for RIGO !!!

I’ll say at the outset that the purpose of this review is to serve as a wake up call to the management/ownership of this establishment. The facility itself is laid out nicely with what appears to be a really good initial investment into the restaurant. That being said, what plagues this place has to do with service. Service is, of course, primarily a management issue. There is no attention to detail here and is obvious that the inmates are running, or should I say RUINING the asylum?! I arrived here a little over a week ago in a very non-busy part of the early evening. Upon my arrival there was a hostess who seated a party in front of me and then proceeded to take a phone call. She stayed on the phone for no less than ten(10) minutes while my party of two stood right in front of the counter. She never paused and never told the party on the phone to please hold. It was astounding. None of the other servers or workers who saw us even bothered to assist. We were seated in a fairly remote booth and then proceeded to be neglected. It took a very long time to place orders, receive drinks, etc. My water glass was empty for a full 15 minutes before I could successfully flag a server. I had wanted to order a second bottle of nigori sake but never could get the attention of my server. I was told that several of the menu items were not in stock. Overall, it looks like one of those places that opened strong and then fell into neglect. The aquarium needs attention and some more population of sea life. The food was okay for the items we got. They run a little heavy on the sauces for the rolls. It wasn’t high grade fish, it was just average. I was watching the teppan chefs and it was apparent that they were not properly trained in the Japanese style of preparation. Overall, the place had the potential to please clientele if effort was put in. The servers and especially the young lady at the hostess station care very little about the experience of the diner. Overall opinion is that there is a lack of excellence here and a lack of attention to customers. There is simply a lack of caring here and I should think that if good management isn’t brought in to correct things this place will likely fail completely before too long. It is a shame. The place has so much potential. To the mangement, please educate yourselves on your purpose for existing and what your roles should be to ensure success. You are there to provide an experience for the diner. If you do not care, then please move on and let’s get another place in here that is going to care. My recommendation is to visit Jizake further down Crown Valley Pkwy(corner of Niguel) if you are truly interested in sushi that matters. If you are looking for teppan then you will have to drive.

Came here again for a quick lunch and didn’t really have the same great experience as last time. Their menu is extremely unorganized and all over the place. My girlfriend wanted some sort of noodle dish but all they had was the $ 34 pad Thai that was for multiple people! We both ordered some sushi. We didn’t get the plate with the ginger, wasabi, etc. like we did last time. Maybe because we didn’t sit at the sushi bar? We ordered a California roll and the sexy mutha hand roll. A simple order like that shouldn’t have taken as long as it did, especially when the restaurant wasn’t even packed. The food was still good, but I think I will try somewhere else for sushi whenever I am in the area.

I was here two times, the first day I tried the sushi it was so good but I was excited about to try the teppanyaki and see the show, so I came back two weeks later and it was just exactly how I expected. I recommend this place a 100% and there’s one more thing and I think this is their success formula all the people working there are so nice and polite this place it’s a must

Ok sushi. Horrible service. Restooms and restaurant in such horrible disregard and disrepair. Does anyone care about this place anymore or are they all letting it go to sh*t?

I’ve given this place not two but three chances and they have messed up each time! Tonight was the worst of the worst! First off, we made reservations for a booth. We showed up 5 minutes before our scheduled reservation and still waited 30 minutes to be seated! While we waited, my husband went to the bar to get us a couple of beers. He stood at the bar for 10 minutes without being acknowledged. Although we went to this restaurant on a Friday night, the bar was not busy, in fact the bar tender was busy watching the nba playoffs… Needless to say we did not get our beers. Once we got seated, My husband and I ordered an appetizer and sake/beer. Once the drinks came we ordered our entrees. The entrees came at the same time as the appetizers and the girl who brought our food handed each plate to us. It wasn’t a big deal, but after the unfortunate string of events that followed, I felt it was important to mention. This restaurant is too expensive to be handed my plate. I’d like my food to be set down at my table unless I’m at a McDonald’s drive thru, in which case I would never complain about being handed my food and having to set it down myself. As I moved from appetizer to my soup and salad, I noticed that my napkin and the table cloth were very dirty. They were not only stained but had rice and meat stuck to it! Like, it was there left over from the previous guests. I did not go out to sit in somebody else’s leftovers! As if this wasn’t bad enough, my soup bowl had leftover seaweed stuck to the side of it. The entire bowl was sticky and rough as if it had been rinsed off but never washed thoroughly. So a bowl of soup went to waste. I wonder how many times this has happened… Finally, I ordered a Sapporo with my hot sake. The sake bottle was leaking all over the table and my Sapporo had a bug in it! So I told my server about the bug and he offered to bring me a new beer. The Sapporo came in a bottle and he brought me back a pint glass of beer. My husband also got a Sapporo and I noticed that my new beer was much lighter than his. So I tried it and I was definitely given a Bud Light. as if that isn’t bad enough, the keg that the disgusting bud light came from was very old and stale. I had no choice but to complain about it. I couldn’t pay for a Sapporo and force myself to drink a stale Bud Light ugh! This restaurant is not clean at all and is way overpriced for the quality of drinks, food and service. I’m really sad because there is no other teppan grill in this area. But, unfortunately, it’s just not worth my time and/or money to go through another experience like this. I hope others find this review helpful

Two stars instead of one, because the waiter tried to be cool. I love Japanese food. Sushi, teppan, sashimi, rolls, you know it. The table was wet and sticky. Gross. The halibut was so dry, maybe it was halibut jerky. The farm raised shrimp, tasted like farm raised shrimp. No surprise. Lousy food for the price. Spent $ 300.00 on my daughters bday dinner. Anyways, long story short, ITWASHORRIBLE. They do have cold beer. Plus. Food sucks. Minus. Go somewhere else.

Showed up to Riptide Sushi tonight for teppan and the family that was seated next to us pawned their sick kids off on us. Paying no attention to their children, who we were forced to sit next to, as one of them sneezed on my wife’s plate. I got up and walked over to the hostess and asked to be moved to the next available teppan table. The hostesses were very kind, polite and professional, informing me that I’d have to wait a little bit but they would take care of us. By the time we ordered a round of drinks at the bar the hostess directed us to a teppan table all to our selves. We had our own teppan chef, Israel(who was AMAZING and SOFUN!) a prime location with a view out the large window. The food and service was PERFECT! If you don’t count the rude family at our original table, It ended up being a Great Tuesday Date Night! THANKYOURIPTIDE!

I’ve been back three times since my previous review and I’m going to have to change my rating. Once we ate at a booth and it was just filthy. We ordered some sushi which was not very appealing. Not old just not sliced very well and the sushi rice was too mushy. On our most recent(and possibly last) visit we ate at a teppan table and the table had old food and grease layered on top of it. Our server did not bring out the soup that accompanies the meal. Our teppan chef spoke so softly we could barely hear him. We ordered a chicken and filet mignon plate. The chicken was cooked so dry it was inedible. The filet was also bordering on dryness as well. As it was being cooked I noticed the chef push the meat down onto the grill releasing all of the juices onto the grill. There was something or many things off during that visit.

Went on a Friday night. Sat at the bar. Had the Avocado Tuna Tower as an appetizer. I would recommend. Salmon toro Tataki is okay. Probably wouldn’t order again. Sexy mutha cut roll is good if you like something kind of sweet. The Poke bowl is a good value and pretty good. Service was overall decent. I would come back

I came for lunch and planned on going to the movies right afterwards… well I was so drunk with their food, I couldn’t handle going to the movies!!! I had their surf ‘n turf from the bar. I was feeling like being a loner for the day and I didn’t want to sit at the Teppan Grill. I had two drinks, both delicious!!! The server was a nice blondish girl with bangs. The bathrooms were clean and fully stocked with toilet paper, that is very important. Anyways, I took a few photo’s for everyone to see!!! Who knows when I’ll be back but I do know that I will be back. I had planned on ordering dessert but that never happened… I had to go home and take a nap after this meal… Zzzzzzz.

Riptide is pretty good. They have a cool fish tank as soon as you walk in the door. They are busy at nights and on the weekends. Came here for sushi and sat at the sushi bar. I had the crunchy shrimp cut roll and it was very tasty! Floors here are sticky when you walk on them. Noise level is on the loud side because they have the teppan tables going. I heard that if you are going for teppan to make a reservation because there can be a wait for that. Sushi bar is always seat yourself so you can bypass the line and sit there if you want.

Riptide is okay but not if you are a true sushi connoisseur. This Restaurant really has an identity crisis. Are you a family friendly restaurant for teenage birthday parties or an adult sushi bar scene with fun music videos and late night fun? It’s a large restaurant that usually has a crowd. 3 seating options: sushi bar, teppan tables, private booth. There are a lot of families and kids everywhere so pick the appropriate seating for your situation. Saturday night was parents and grandparents letting toddlers run around and dance and scream down the aisles. Not funny or fun for the rest of us. –Order beer or wine because they aren’t good with mixed drinks. –I hope you like 80’s music and videos because that’s what they are playing. –They offer full menu while sitting at sushi bar so that makes it convenient –Menu is large with lots of options but a bit cluttered and hard to dissect. Lesson learned for me. If I want to dine with kids i’ll go to Farrells or Chuck E Cheese. If I want an adult night out for dinner it’s not RipTide.

I go here every so often with my family, and their sushi hasn’t yet disappointed. We usually get an assortment of rolls. The sexy motha roll is our favorite and we get it every time. This is not somewhere to get cocktails! My sister ordered a mojito and it tasted nothing short of nail polish remover. She actually sent it back, and they brought her another martini, which was okay but drinkable. Stick with the beer! Pros: –good rolls –cool atmosphere(often music videos on tv, a nice change from sports all the time) –you can make reservations Cons: –pricey –slow service

What a **bleeping** nightmare! What did I do to deserve this… Really? Green tea tasted like water. Miso soup had way too much powder in it. Our food took an hour and fifteen minutes to come out! We had to grab our own sushi from the bar. Everything was drowned in butter. I love butter as much as the next person, but I do not like my mouth tasting like butter hours after my meal. If you do decide to take this deathly plunge make sure to buy the GROUPON deal which will give you $ 100 for $ 60. P. s. I hated the chef. He flipped food at me when I wasn’t looking. otherwise I would have totally caught the rice ball in my mouth.

I like the ambiance and the vibe of Riptide. I’ve been a regular customer on and off, for as long as they’ve been around. They play music and have tv screens, along with a special motorcycle, that was constructed for the restaurant by Orange Coast Choppers, featured on display prominently. They also have a wall of water and sort of an underwater theme going on here, starting with the fish tanks in the waiting area. Don’t come to Riptide looking for traditional sushi rolls or anything of the sort. If you are looking for a fun atmosphere to grab a bite with some friends or the fam, this is your spot. They also do Teppanyaki but I come for their unique sushi roll, the Tornado Roll, that you can’t find anywhere else. I recommend their most popular rolls, which are… Tornado Roll — Crab, avocado, spicy tuna with soy paper. Crispy potato, eel sauce and Cruzin’ sauce on top. Sexy Mutha Roll: Shrimp tempura, avocado, and radish sprouts with soy paper wrap. Spicy tuna, masago, green onion, sesame seeds, spicy mayo, and eel sauce on top.
