Good but not great! Their yeast donuts are fluffy but not really flavorful – we got a long john and were a bit disappointed. The best options was the blueberry cake donut – it was quite yummy. The coffee is also good. The prices are ok – two donuts and a small coffee for $ 5. They definitely have a lot of volume and offerings(unlike Fluffy and Fresh) but the overall quality is a little lacking.

You can’t find a lot of donut shops that have chocolate glazed covered in Oreos or m&m’s. They’ve got some awesome flavors that other places don’t venture to. Rays chocolate glazed is to due for but they’re most always gone by 8:30 :-(. Try the chocolate donut holes too! They have so many to chose from so don’t get carried away bc I usually do and get a tummy ache but its sooo worth it

Awesome donuts from their Apple Fritters, chocolate knot and fruit cake donuts. It is amazing and the folks at this store are usually very nice. The problem that I have that forces me to give them a low rating is that I am a customer service person that is usually tough on places. I had one issue with them on their buy 12 dozen get one free card, their specialty dozens are more expensive and I bought 12 of them and went to use my card and they would only give me a non-specialty dozen. It cost me close to 220 dollars to get the free dozen. Anyway, I emailed their customer service department with my complaint and didn’t even get a «we will get back to you in 24 hours» BS you might of expected. I still go their but opt for Johnny’s Space Age whenever I can. I’m mostly just disappointed that a place with such great donuts and that is known locally as a KC donut legend that is now headquartered in Colorado has gone the way of the apathetic chain store when it comes to caring about what their customers think. So, may sound petty to most but a good experience to me includes all aspects of the operation. Here the failure is at the home office.

LaMar’s…you’re tasty. You’re delightful. You’re sweet and delicious. I am a fan… I just am not necessarily a huge fan. Honestly, I feel like I can go down to QuikTrip, pay a lot less and get only a slightly less delicious doughnut with(yes, I’ve researched this) fewer calories and less sugar. Dunkin Doughnuts even, at times, can stand out. Not all the time, but sometimes. That being said, you do have tasty doughnuts… I will be back. But I won’t go out of my way to find you. As long as you aren’t Krispy Kreme, you have a chance in my culinary future.

I had heard great things before trying this place out. Unless it’s the awful Krispy Kremes, I am a big fan of donuts in general. I feel like people working behind the counter at pastry places in general are very fast to hurry you along and get on to the next customer. Not only was the service great here, they let me take my time in making my selections and even made a couple of reccomendations when I asked for them. I bought a dozen for myself and the staff at work and they were a big hit. I loved every kind I tried and would reccomend this place to anyone looking for a good place to hit up in the morning… as long as you aren’t watching your calorie intake… once you eat one, you’ll want more!

I have an extreme weakness for apple fritters. Although I enjoy the traditional donut just as much as the next guy I feel like those are easy to find. A good quality apple fritter on the other hand is something to be marveled upon. Lamar’s has made artwork out of them. Easily the best I have had.

They have the best donut’s in Kansas City. I love donuts so I have tried alot of places and none of them can even stand next to Lamar’s. You have to get there early cause they dont last long. The staff is very nice and the donuts are fresh.

I haven’t ever been to this actual store but I have consumed it’s delightful pastries with extreme enthusiasm *pats belly*. Today this horrible person at work brought in 5 dozen of the sugary calorie laden treats. Oh what joy filled my mouth as I consumed not one but two doughnuts… along with a quart sized ziplock baggie of carrots. Do you think it will cancel it out? But I digress. I had two glazed doughnuts. One was a cinnamonny confection — melted in my mouth. The other was… I think a cherry something or other — the interior of the doughnut was pink. It was good too although the cinnamon one was the best. Yum. Yay for healthy breakfasts? okaybye.

Ok… I didn’t come in here THAT late(10:00AM) and the case is empty? Close the doors if there’s nothing left. No coffee either. Hmmm. The donuts are good, but nothing spectacular. I’m not a huge donut person to begin with, but they were super sweet and sure to get tons of sugar on your fingers. Employee was nice and helpful. Still, a donut shop shouldn’t be completely outgunned by the QuickTrip pastry case.

Lived all over the U.S. and I still have not found a glazed doughnut as good as Lamar’s!

Missouri, donuts are a whole different ball game here. I’m from the East Coast and the donuts at Lamar’s are crazy, mutant donuts. They were good, but I’ve had better. I was amazed by the german chocolate cake donut, I was expecting it to be super sweet but it was a nice subdued chocolate. It was also like a foot long and I only had a mere 2 inches.

This place is okay. I hate Krispy Kreme with a huge disgust. However, this place will have to do for now until a Dunkin’ doughnuts or something similar opens here. I grew up eating in Café Du Monde and McKenzie’s back in NOLA. Café Du Monde is of course world-famous for it’s celestial, almost divine beignets.(Reminds me, I got to include this place on my list of New Orleans reviews!!!) Also, McKenzie’s was a locally owned chain of doughnut shops that sold buttermilk buscuts. I could eat those all day long. Who needs meat? So anyway, enough blah blah. Lamar’s is McKenzie’s Kansas City except for the fact the doughnuts are nowhere near as good. The pro’s of them is that when they are hot they are extremely soft and tasty. In most cases, they will(literally) melt in your mouth. The drawback to them is they do lack a little bit of substance in the middle. I also wish that brew of exceptional quality would be offered there. Regardless, I can say Lamar’s is the best kind of doughnut ive had in KC so far.

Everyone would always rant and rave about Lamar’s Donuts when I moved to Kansas City, saying that they are amazing, and are a great local staple, blah blah blah. The mission location of Lamar’s Donuts is really close to my house, so one Sunday morning, I decided to try them for myself. I went into the microscopic-sized shop, which was just big enough to fit the long line inside it, and waited while young couples still in their PJs(like me), fathers, and others picked out bear claws, chocolate donut holes, and whatever else. I got a sprinkled cake donut(my favorite) and an ‘old-fashioned’ style donut. The employees seemed to be husband and wife, and were very organized considering the full house(which was seriously like 6 people). We settled ourselves into an assembly like system and the husband was very polite and friendly as he rang up my order. So.I got home, poured myself a huge glass of milk, and took a bite. Total letdown. I just paid almost $ 3 for 2 regular-sized donuts and there wasn’t fireworks in my mouth?! Instead there was dry donut in my mouth, that had to be washed down with milk in order for me to swallow it. The flavor wasn’t what was gross, it was more the texture and lack of moisture in the donut. Maybe Lamar’s is more a localized(midwest) business than Krispy Kreme. But I’m going to tell you right now, I’d rather pay twice as much and drive twice as far(which I do) for a Krispy Kreme donut than go to Lamar’s Donuts. Lamar’s needs to step it up, and not just depend on their franchised household name to carry their business along.
