The food is good and well priced. The location is a bit off the beaten path. It’s 2000 Airport Blvd. Its a bit more lively at night than during the day. However, the owner and her staff are exceptional. There is a message painted on the wall that says, «Come in as guests leave as family» and that’s exactly how you will feel after dining there. I recommend a visit highly.

Wow… this place has been here all these years but this is my first experience with this little restaurant. The star is a French speaking Indonesian lady who is the chef and waitress and greeter and hostess… she is remarkable. The food is great and she will make sure you enjoy it. she explains it and it is clear she is proud of it and wants to be sure you are going to enjoy«her» food. This is truly an enjoyable experience and I highly recommend it. The tempura shrimp is wonderful as is the sushi selection and preparation. A true jewel with Lagniappe awards to confirm its appreciation. This place is a flashback to days of old when going to a restaurant was a wonderful outing. In Mobile we had La Louisianne, the Pillars and others where you were greeted like a special guest at every visit and your dining enjoyment was the responsibility of the restaurant, something taken very seriously. This is a touch of those days. If you enjoyed them then enjoy this little place near the loop in Mobile.

Food wasn’t exceptional, and the service was a bit slow. BUT! The server was really great, kind, funny and eager to please. The food wasn’t memorable but still good enough to not feel cheated. The atmosphere was welcoming and pretty clean but could use a little updating. I head a microwave which is never a good sign. The complimentary fried bananas we great though. Over all it was pretty good and we will probably try again. But the sushi needs some work for sure, especially for the prices.

Fuji San is a great destination for amazing sushi. On top of that, they have a pretty good beer selection and their waitstaff is very amicable and helpful. It’s a small place, but that’s what makes it so charming! I highly recommend it.

The most welcoming restaurant I’ve ever been to. I’ve been going here for about two years now, about two to three times a month. The food is reasonably priced and delicious! The atmosphere is a little confusing. There is Japanese with a finishing rodeo vibe going on. The parking lot is extremely cramped and bumpy. You kinda just make your own parking spot. I usually get sushi or a bento box when I come here. They start you off with complimentary miso soup and house salad while you’re waiting. After you’re finished eating your sushi they ask you if you would like a free fried banana. ALWAYS say yes! Its half a banana deep fried in a tempura batter, drizzled in honey and powdered sugar. Overall, a great place for dinner or lunch. The only reason why I didn’t give them 5 stars is because they need to do a lot of renovating but don’t let the outside of the building fool you. There’s greatness inside!

The sushi was pretty good. The restaurant is in an adorable house and the atmosphere is very comfortable. As I said in another review, I’m a tough critic when it comes to sushi, yet Fuji San is a good place to go to satisfy a random craving of sushi.

Boring sushi! Pitiful amount of wasabi provided. Only enough for about 4 pieces… TOPS! Wish I wouldn’t of wasted calories on this sushi. Had I not good it to go, I would have sent it back. I do not recommend eating here unless it is because you like Dives.

Best sushi in Mobile. Hands down. Free fried banana to boot? I’m sold. We have since moved to Denver, and have tried sushi in many a metro area. Still haven’t found the combination of flavors, consistency, and price anywhere else. When we come in to town, Fuji San is always on our list as a must visit. If you’re complaining about it being divey, well, you’re probably missing out on a ton of other good food. Divey? Sure. Dirty? Never. Service was probably my ONLY occasional complaint, as when it gets busy service can get kind of slow. But hey, it’s a small locally owned business! Go help em out instead of eating at one of the millions of crappy chain restaurants around Mobile!

If you are looking for a beautifully gilded Japanese Restaurant, this is not the place for you. As others have mentioned, at a glance the best description of it would be a «dive,» the worst would be that it looks«sketchy». However, I don’t go for the ambiance — I go for the food and Fuji San is consistently good so I go back often, several times a month. Fuji San has a large and varied menu but they really shine with their sushi rolls. The Las Vegas roll is one of my all time favorite sushi rolls of any that I’ve ever had. It’s a light roll, not covered in sauce but full of flavor. The Menara Tuna isn’t a roll technically I suppose but it is an amazing tower of wonderful flavors — Tuna, Avocado, Spicy Crab, and rice. The price can be reasonable or expensive, depending on your taste. The friend I go with regularly and I split three rolls we pay around $ 15.00 each — that’s two«regular» rolls, one fancy roll, miso soup and salad for each of us.(When I go alone and get the Menara Tuna, that alone is $ 15.00 but given the amount of Tuna you get and the Miso and Salad, it still seems very reasonable to me.) The only thing more enjoyable than the food is the service. Fuji San is a family run establishment and if you go there long enough, you find yourself treated like family too. I’ve met the owner’s brother, sister, sister-in law, daughter, grandchildren — they are all such warm and wonderful people.

Only had one meal there. When I drove up I couldn’t tell if the place was actually open, which can never be a good thing. The food wasn’t bad, but not good either. It didn’t seem fresh, but that could have simply been my bias as the place didn’t feel that fresh either. Got two rolls and both were fine. Prices are similar to other sushi joints. The employees were very nice however, and even offered me some free fried banana to try. I didn’t do so.

Train wreck. Eww. Obviously not enough staff working. My girls Sushi roll looked like grammar school experiment.

Driving around without my contacts as usual, I couldn’t find the place we wanted to try, so we wandered up in here. It appears to be in an old house and it’s kind of divey, which is fine with us. If you’re more into the typical swank Japanese restaurants with fountains and granite, this may not be your kind of place. Also, there’s no hibachi grill tables if that’s what you’re looking for. We were the only people in there, with the exception of the one obvious regular who came in to pick up his take out. No big deal because service was good with only one table to wait on. We ordered the box lunches, and the main entrée portion of it seemed a little small, but had a decent flavor. The rolls that came in the box were fair, as were the soup and the egg roll. It was nice to have a little variety, but the price seemed a little steep for what we got.(Almost $ 60 for two people for box lunches, drinks, appetizer and the tip.) This was really about a two star meal. The saving grace of this place, and the only thing I would go back for is the Mardi Gras Roll. It is absolutely fabulous enough to be titled after the famous Mobile event. Our former favorite sushi roll off all time fell of its pedestal as soon as the waitress put it this roll on our table. That roll alone would’ve easily earned them 5 stars. I took off one star because everything else was so mediocre and it was kind of pricey.

The food is a favorite for our family to go there or take out(they have drive thru in the back). They also have Thai food. I love the Thai iced sweet tea — it’s a special treat I always have. I have had their Coconut soup– it’s good but I prefer Busaba’s maybe because they have these little mushrooms at the bottom. We all love the sushi. Best presentation. You can’t go wrong with the Bama roll, it has crab, avocado, tempura yumminess! Usually we get California or Veggie roll(yum) too but Bama is my new favorite. Service can take a while to get check, but I think they just want you to enjoy your meal without bothering you. Four stars because just don’t like the restaurant set up but it’s authentic for sure. A lot of us like sushi here in Midtown(historic section) and many of us prefer this one over Samarai J’s or Liquid. Liquid has best ambience though.

Went here based upon the reviews and overlooked the appearances. Ordered some rolls and some nigiri. The rolls tasted acceptable but had lots of sauce which is mostly what I tasted. After they realized they hadn’t given me the nigiri pieces I had ordered they promptly made them. When I got them it was obvious they had been frozen and were not the quality of fish I was accustomed to at sushi restaurants. Both the salmon and tuna were still partially frozen. I won’t be back.

Not the best atmosphere or surroundings, but the food was pretty good, and the crew was extremely nice. However, not having an awesome ginger salad dressing bums me out. There are a lot of times when I want to go Japanese just for the salad. However, from my experience, this is still the best sushi place in the Midtown/Downtown Mobile area. Worth the time and money if you’re craving sushi in the area.

Saturday night. Empty! That right there is a bad sign. Food: Sushi was oily, didn’t taste fresh(tried 3 rolls). Service: Slow! Place was empty but staff was inattentive. Atmosphere: Place smelled of oil! Deep frying oil. I could barely stand it. Got home and had to chuck my clothes in the laundry and wash my hair cos the smell was stuck to me. Overall: Sushi was edible cos I was starved, but honestly would not come back to this restaurant. Will try their downtown location to compare.

Hubby & I found this award winning sushi restaurant had a great atmosphere. The sushi and rolls were impeccably prepared. The fried banana dessert was excellent. All this for a reasonable cost. We were delighted!

My favorite sushi place in Mobile. Only reason for not giving it a 5 is because it’s not the best sushi I’ve ever had. But that being said I love the sushi, love the restaurant atmosphere, and love the lemonade they make(best I’ve ever had). Another thing is I have never liked Japanese restaurant food other than sushi. The food that I’ve had here though was great. The chicken katsu is easily one of the best things i’ve eaten at any restaurant. Really good restaurant with decent prices. Go to Fuji San

The ‘Bama roll is to die for. Also love their crunchy shrimp roll of the speciality roll list. The staff is very kind, and the service is prompt. The only complaint is the awkward parking lot.
