Ate here today for lunch. Sat in the Sushi Bar in the back, but they have hibachi tables, as well. It has been a long time since we have eaten in Mikatos because we moved to the Eastern Shore almost 15 years ago, but we used to eat often when we had to come to Mobile. I always thought it was the best Sushi in the Mobile area, and after eating there today, I still do. We ordered a Volcano Roll, Rainbow Roll and Akiko Roll. All 3 were very tasty and the sushi was really fresh. Miso and cucumber salad were included and both were very good, as well. Very, very good sushi!

When I first walked in, I was greeted immediately by a staff. They are very friendly. My friend and I wanted regular dining instead of hibachi because we wanted a more intimate setting. I had a glass of Josh Pinot Noir as my beverage, which is my go-to red wine. I really recommend it. They actually had a good selection of wine. I started to look over their sushi menu. Their sushi menu is very accommodating because they have selection from southern favorites to traditional favorites. Overall, I had a great time and I will be back. I would recommend this place to my friends and families.

Absolutely wonderful! This was the first place I ever had sushi at and it doesn’t disappoint. I had the Wasabi roll and spicy tuna and it’s amazing.

Excellent! I tried the Hibachi lunch with scallops… OMG…absolutely the BEST scallops I have had in ages! I talked with the new owner and he is sourcing the best quality ingredients and you can really tell. The food and service are great!

I’ve been here before but it was a long time ago. In the memory of that first meal I remember an evening of good food and laughing with friends. To be honest I’m not entirely confident in my memory to operate with pinpoint accuracy but I headed to Mikato this evening expecting a good meal based on past experience(albeit a experience that’s 7 years old at this point). What I got was not even close. I’ll skip over the dimly lit décor and overall feeling of general uncleanliness and get right to the meal. My daughter had tempura fried chicken(Asian chicken nugget equivalent) and they were great. Unfortunately it’s the only compliment I have for this place. You go to hibachi to have a show and eat. Our chef came out and did a lackluster try at spinning his fork and spatula before cracking a few eggs then abandoning any future attempts at performing. Too bad he left a huge piece of egg shell on the back side of the spatula that he proceeded to chop into the eggs for the fried rice(fried rice is a up charge). The hibachi grill shortly after the start of cooking had a black spot in the middle of it that continued to grow as the chef cooked. By the time he got to my meat I really didn’t want it to be cooked in the charred remains of rice, vegetables etc. Once the chef completed his cooking the mystery of the char spot became apparent when he left and left the grill a filthy mess that we had to look at for the rest of our meal. The food was ok, rice wasn’t great overall just very disappointing. There’s good hibachi places here in town that I’d much rather go to. Either my memory failed me or Mikado has fallen off since I was there last, either way I won’t waste my time revisiting this one.

I wish I liked the sushi here, but I never do. The hibachi is very entertaining and obviously fresh, but the taste is just so-so. I think it’s a great place to have a birthday dinner because of the entertainment value, but I am never happy here when Im just looking for a good meal.
