Best carnitas ever! It reminds me of my home town in Michuaca! I strongly recommend this place.

Best food ever!!! This is THEONLYPLACEINTHEENTIREWORLD that I will get enchiladas from(well besides when my grandma makes them but they are pale in comparison) They are super tasty and made to perfection every time! The rice is made by angels and the beans are to die for. Theyre horchata is so good, i have been to many other places but none have ever come as close to this horchata. If you want the best you have to go to the best. They have homemade chips and salsa that are so good, tears come to my eyes when I eat them. They have super awesome employees, like Miranda who is by far the best person ever.

Good food, and decent prices, but it’s very crowded with a small seating area. They have freshly made tortillas that you can buy by the dozen to go. I would buy from here again, however I would take it to go. You kind of have to stand around and stare at people until a table opens up. People are friendly and there’s a wide variety of food to choose from. If you want good tasting Mexican comics, this place has it.

Don’t know why I come back since their food sucks and will give you a bad stomach ache. Me and my three o Coworkers went and got torta, gorditas, chorrizo burrito, carne asada burrito and a carnita tacos. Everyone of us got a bad stomach ache. The food wasn’t even good. It was very low quality. Especially how it was made. Never going back again.

Six months later I’m much happier with Don Juan. They offered to give me my money back and to provide food at our next Church party. For Our Lady of Guadalupe they provided tamales and refried beans. Excellent food, timely delivery of the food and top notch customer relations. They went out of their way(above and beyond) to make things right and in the end they did everything they had promised. Kudos to Don Juan Foods.

Fantastic Mexican food! Green pork tamales were the favorite with our family, but the red pork and chicken tamales, homemade corn tortillas, beans, rice and quesadillas were all great, too! Will definitely be back next time we drive through Modesto.

This place is great however if you blink you miss it. .it’s a hole in the wall. The masa for tamales is great and the carnitas are very good also. They also bake their own bread and the food is very authentic Mexican food. Downside they don’t have the best customer service and it can get packed on the weekends.

I always come here for the pork tamales. The neighborhood may not be that safe, the gravel parking lot has poor drainage, and the store is only a couple aisles big with no produce, but their tamales are always delicious. The pork tamales are moist, fat, greasy, and full of flavor. I tend to eat it with lime juice and Tapatio hot sauce. It’s even better around Christmas time. They also have a couple of tables where you can sit down and eat. Other than that, they typically the other basic things you would expect. They make burritos, have carnitas(fried shredded pork), chicharones, chicken and beef tamales, posole, and menudo(weekends only). Their menudo is also very tasty filled with hominy and different kinds of tripe.

Hands down beat place for masa for tamales. Super helpful if you have any questions on preparing anything. The prepared food there is delicious. Prices are very reasonable! Authentic and delicious! Can’t beat this place. Only problem for me is it’s on the other side of town so I can’t visit as much as I would like :)

They have the best masa for tamales in this entire area. At Xmas time be prepared 4 lines but totally worth wait. I also like that they are so customer orientated. All the employees from cashier to deli staff always are checking to make sure you’ve been helped(not like perla tapatia) who ignore u & have worse attitude. Their food in deli also very good as is their pastries.

The food is great. the corn tortillas are the best! The place itself does need a little face lift but, for the price of food i can deal with it.

My parents have been coming here since waaaay back in the early eighties I think. They’re one of the few places that actually cater to Mexicans, this is why you will find many things on the menu that you would never see in a taqueria. Some of these are tripe, pork blood with peppers, refried beans fried with lard, corn tamales and some other good stuff to try. The bakery is continually sending out fresh bread, the best are the bolillo rolls and the fresh churros! Fresh tortillas are available upon request. Don’t be afraid of stepping into this place(especially if it’s day time :)), the people are friendly and sometimes they have live music. Take some bread home to enjoy with some coffee or abuelita chocolate!

This place was ok. The only breakfast buritto’s were a chorizo(with potatoes and the chorizo was the cut sausage type, not my personal favorite bleech…) or the Machaca but they were out. So I asked for a Chile Relleno. The bollios must be good because as soon as they came out they were rushed like it was the last bread on earth! My sister bought some Churros which were really good and had a cinnamon sugar filling. mmm The Chile Relleno was okay, wished the cheese was more melted and the red sauce was okay but it was more like enchilada sauce. I wish Unilocal had ½ stars. This was a 2.5 star place but I put 3 because the carnitas seem to be off the hook and the homemade tortillas becuase there were lines for them. I’ll have to try them and give a better review next time.

Don Juan foods is one of those spots most people will never find. It’s tucked off the wayside of Crows Landing in Modesto, so it’s located in a mix of the boonies/hood. The location alone might turn most folks off, but being a Stockton resident it felt more like walking into one of the neighborhood carnicerias in town. However… this place is way more awesome. First off, Don Juans has a quirky set-up. It’s like the owner looked up all the requirements of «great dive food establishment» and applied them completely to his business. It’s basically a small grocery store/deli/restaurant. Upon entry, all you see are small aisles lined with groceries. Once you turn towards the back of the store you’ll notice fresh made Mexican pastries lining the sidewall and a deli counter in the back(usually with a large line). Next to the deli counter is a stand where fresh tortillas are made(both flour and corn), a cash register to tally purchases and a large dining room off to the side for people to enjoy their meal. The strangest thing about Don Juan is that you can’t just order food in the dining room. It’s simply just a room setup with a few TVs and a live performer playing keyboard and singing Mexican songs. I’ve been in many Mexican restaurants and had the wandering mariachis come sing at my table, but it’s a totally different experience to have someone setup with a PA system singing Mexican music(and extremely well at that) in a Mexican grocery store/deli/restaurant. It’s rather surreal, but very entertaining. The food is everything from Menudo(Tripe, hominy provided only on request), Birria(goat or beef), Carne Asada, Chile Verde, Milanesa, Fried Chicken, Chicharones, and a ton of other traditional Mexican dishes I’ve never even heard or tried. Apparently the Carnitas are awesome, as they had one line specifically to purchase them and it stayed busy for an hour straight. I had Menudo and tasted the birria and both were great. Homemade tortillas were also very awesome and they provided plenty of them to enjoy my meal with. Overall, this place is well worth a visit at least once. This is Mexican food at it’s most authentic and tasty. Don’t expect a perfect experience. The lines are long. The setup bizarre. Spanish is the dominant language, but if you’re like me you can point and nod enthusiastically at the food you desire. Plus, you can enjoy live music on a Saturday morning!
