We went to Mohawk for the oysters due to all the rave reviews, but honestly for the size and price there are other restaurants. This would be a good lunch place but i think for a date night or dinner in general it is lacking as well as a minimal wine list just not a dinner spot.

It’s not much to look at but Mohawk never disappoints. I had raw oysters and then a po’boy. Fantastic.

Worst place I’ve ever eating in my entire life lighting was terrible service didn’t exist and the food was undercooked. We waited 25 minutes before we even saw a waiter If I could give this place 0 stars I would.

The only reason it gets 3 stars is the raw oysters. The fried fish tasted of old oil same as the fried shrimp. The boiled shrimp were straight our of a bag(and this is in Louisiana!) and lacked flavor. The décor was our the 70s. This place screams John Taffer from Bar Rescue!

You need to have a high level of patience with this restaurant. My boyfriend and I were having date night and decided to go here because we had not eaten there before. First, I don’t know how the owner has not been cited for employment discrimination. The only 2 women working there were white and all of the«waitstaff» were black men. Second, don’t expect refills or your empty bowls and plates to be removed. We came in, told there would be a 20 – 25 wait, we sat at the bar to wait and watch the basketball game on tv. I noticed the couple behind us had empty dishes on their table as well as empty glasses. There was also an empty table that was covered in empty dishes and glasses. This did not change for 20 minutes. The couple behind us finally had to get up and go to the bar for refills on their drinks. To make things worse the owner or manager was just standing at the bar either talking or just standing there while this dirty table and thirsty people just sat there. Did I mention I only saw one server on the floor the whole time? I’ve been in the industry for almost 17 years and have never seen this level of disregard and disrespect for not only your customers, but for your staff and yourself. If you are a local owner and won’t bus the tables in your own restaurant then shame on you. We left and went somewhere else. I was very disappointed because we had heard the food was good and I love oysters.

Mohawk is my restaurant of choice for fresh shucked, raw oysters. There aren’t too many places here that can compare & Mohawk is yet another local favorite for the area. Don’t expect fancy décor– walking in is like a blast from the past! This is a no-frills place, service is a little slow, and the waiters wear white jackets & are polite and respectful. I’ve had the fried seafood platters a few times, which were average since many places here offer those items. The most surprising & unexpected tasty dish was the spaghetti & meatballs. Maybe I was starving when I ordered, but I was quite pleased, given the foodie-holic that I am. For Monroe, the spaghetti here is totally legit so give it a try!

This is my family’s favorite restaurant in Monroe. We come here every time we’re in town. They have the best shrimp po boys you’ll ever eat! Food, atmosphere, service, all top notch!

It’s like taking a step back in time, walking into Mohawk. I went here with some close friends who live in the area that I hadn’t visited in a while. I wanted something special and they suggested Mohawk. I was not disappointed. I don’t think the décor has been updated in decades and that’s a good thing. You could easily walk in here and, aside from them taking credit cards, you’d think it was the 1960’s. It’s a classic oyster bar and restaurant in every sense imaginable. The food is of excellent quality. The service is excellent. The prices are reasonable. The atmosphere is great. I was surprised a place like this even existed in northern Louisiana. You’d expect to see a place like this in New Orleans, Baton Rouge, etc. but Monroe? Nah, I’d have never imagined. We all had raw oysters for the appetizer and I had stuffed shrimp for my entrée. The rest of the table had a variety of dishes, all of which were great. What got me was how reasonable the prices are here. You’d pay double or more at some places in south Louisiana for food of this caliber. Parking at night was a little on the sketchy side… the foliage makes for some blind spots and, not being familiar with the area, I’d have felt better with more lighting. All in all, though, it was fine. We had no issues. I don’t get up into these parts too often, but I’ll be going back through here on my next trip. Good times with good people. I waited four days to post this review, like I do with any raw seafood place, just to be sure. Yep, everything was great!

Wonderful food and services! Love going back time after time to this historical, awesome place to eat. The fried shrimp is one of my favorites! Also, the fried oyster sandwiches are another great item. Try some of their great salads also. you won’t regret it.

Previous review should let you know I LOVE this place… nostalgia just drips from the rafters when I walk in here… Sad news this trip, they no longer serve draft beer in Schooners! The company they got em from quit making em & they don’t use the ones in stock for fear they’ll be broken. So your draft beer is now served in a regular old short mug BUT the raw oysters are still outstanding & the menu selection is still limited BUTDELISH!!! My sisters and mom had the Shrimp Delite which they always get(it’s the Mohawk’s version of a shrimp salad with a homemade remoulade as the dressing) and the women in my family do love it! This trip I had a combination platter in addition to my dozen on the half shell. I went for the catfish filets and fried oysters this time but really should have got the frog legs cause it’s been a while since I had their frog legs and they have never disappointed!!! I’m still kicking myself as I write this update… In Monroe, LA, give it a try…

One of Monroe’s oldest restaurants. Seafood gumbo is the best anywhere. Wonderful fried shimp and oysters; French fries could be improved on.
