Sammys is the best… Food is excellent… I started with stuffed mushrooms which are the best ive ever had… The grilled lobster with rice and veggies was perfectly seasoned and cooked. The entire family had great dinners including shrimp po boys and clams and spaghetti. I live in montauk and just love this place… todd

We had a great bowl Manhattan style fish chowder with a Ruben style hero sandwich that had very lean corn beef, melted swiss cheese and sauerkraut delicious. Happily surprised.

service was great, however the lobster roll was bleh. I had a better one today at Stew-Leonards. Enjoyed the drinks, but not the lobster roll. Pleasant server.

Excellent Fish and Chips — Traveled with friends from Australia and we were very pleased by the delicious food and friendly service. Open year round, this casual Montauk pub/restaurant is a perfect find for a family friendly visit, or with a group of friends in mid December! Owner operated so you feel welcome and right at home.

Our daughter’s wedding was on a Saturday in October in Montauk and all the hotels required a two night stay so we decided to host a welcome reception the night before in conjunction with the rehearsal dinner. We chose Sammy’s and it was perfect! The rehearsal dinner for 25 began at 6:30 pm and the food and service was great. Our 80 non-wedding party guests were invited for a BBQ party beginning at 8 pm and it worked out so well. Everyone raved about the food and had a great time! We chose Sammy’s because we’ve always enjoyed their dining menu and have experienced their BBQ selections at a party where they brought their truck right to the host’s house. We would highly recommend this venue for casual Montauk dinners and especially for a party like we hosted.

For the record, I don’t really consider Montauk a «dining destination». The reasons are probably beyond the scope of a Unilocal review, but in general I find most places charging high tourist prices, so-so food and crowds. Is there a place where the«locals» eat out here? Is Sammy’s that place? From reading the reviews it seems like the chef here worked for Gosman’s for decades and branched out to open this place on his own. I like the décor and vibe here even seeing who I thought was the owner coming out to speak to some local patrons. Our service was very good as well — Matt was our waiter and he was helpful, friendly and efficient. Our experience with the food was a bit mixed. The stand out items included the lobster bisque, the calamari strips, the Irish Nachos, and the fish chowder off of the specials menu. The lobster bisque has a good unique flavor with nice pieces of lobster. I also tried the clam chowder which seemed blander by comparison. The calamari strips were very tender and nicely crispy on the outside — the sauce was a bit bland with this. The fish chowder was red based with plenty of chunky solid fish pieces. The Irish nachos were a hybrid of potato skins and traditional nachos made with house made potato chips topped with bacon, cheese, sour cream and chives. The salsa and beans were presented on the side. Great bar app to share, which we all liked. For our mains three of us went with the«one and only» lobster burger — which Matt sold us on saying it has a mix of lobster and scallops. Perhaps it was, but it seemed like mostly breading and I didn’t realize it was going to be so crab cake like. I was hoping for chunks of lobster and scallop and less binder. I’ll pass on this next time. My mom just ordered the baked clams — she said they were a bit bland. On a whole I like the place although there were some misses with the food. We would return for some apps/tapas(how it’s billed on the menu, but I don’t really think of what is presented here as «tapas») to share and drinks at the friendly bar high tops. They have a nice selection of beers on tap as well. Perhaps give other mains a try, but not sure if this is the way to go.

Wasn’t crowded. Sat outside, had view of boats and water. Lobster bisque was good, as was the flounder sandwich. Prices were more reasonable than many Montauk places. Will definitely come again. Entire staff seemed quite friendly and efficient. Bravo!

Service needs work. Our large party wanted to sit outside and there was room but we got such an attitude about it. I think they were annoyed by the kids. Then the bathroom wasn’t working. We won’t be back. Note to businesses– work on that customer service! There’s a nice way to say anything!

Food was good. The fish and raw bar item are their best. Everything else was average. We come to montauk twice a year and would not go back with family for dinner. Service was very slow.

I’ve had seafood in Montauk before, Sammy’s takes the cake. It’s a low key environment but packs a punch with great food, filling portions, and decent prices. The bread with the olive oil and cinnamon butter was awesome, ANDTHAT’S JUSTTHESTART! I ordered the Mahi Mahi and it was the right amount of flakiness and flavor. Another person ordered the buttered lobster roll and Sammy’s does not skimp out on the portions of awesome lobster. Apparently, Sammy was the executive chef of Gosman’s Restaurant and brought his talent to his own restaurant. Sammy’s also has a working food cart, hopefully it can grab the late night Montauk crowd.

So, my family and I popped in for my father’s birthday. It was in the winter, so not much is open in the off-season, which probably why they clearly didn’t bring their«A» game. The service was inattentive, and the TV was set really loud to some murder mystery story that we lowered the volume on, then the waitress brought it back up! Clearly she was more into that than serving us. The food was downright putrid, not fresh and swimming in grease, and that said, completely not worth the high prices charged. Skip this joint, ruined my dad’s birthday. Unacceptable.

Terrible experience with my family. They had live music and I was asked if I wanted to sit next the band. When I declined the hostess looked at me in disgust and said«then you will have to sit outside.» That was fine with my family, so we sat outside. Twenty five minutes goes by without a waiter or waitress even saying hello. I could see maybe if no wait staff saw us, but three separate waiters/waitresses saw us, made eye contact, but didnt engage. Needless to say we walked out. Go with Shannon… rude…rude.rude

The food is pretty good. No wait which was surprising for a Saturday night. Don’t try to order anything special here, they like to stick to the menu exactly as it is. So if it says fried don’t expect them to steam something. If you like ribs the portion they provide is so big it hangs off the plate. The chicken lettuce wraps are more of an appetizer size portion. Sea bass special was good yet a little small in size. As a party if seven they squeezed us into a table for less. There was live music which could be a bit loud for you if you are sitting next to the musician. You have a choice to sit outside or inside so check where u will be seated. If outside u will be sitting literally next to the parking lot. I’d eat here again and stick to the specials

This place is a «find». It has the right combination of a convivial atmosphere and outstanding food. My girlfriend and I went here twice in one week, although I am ordinarily not a «repeater» other than if the service and food are outstanding. I dine regularly in Manhattan, and prefer to experiment. The corn chowder was fabulous, thick and served hot. The codfish cakes were perfect; with the right texture and taste. The flounder stuffed with lobster was both generous and tasty. I guarantee that you will not leave here hungry. Sam, the owner, is gregarious but serious about his business. You can tell that he wants this place to be a success and I have to believe that it is well on its way. Try it. You won’t be disappointed!

RUDE, rude, rude! Please hear me out and read the length of this review before dining here. My new husband and I came here thinking we would get a bite to eat while visiting Montauk on Veteran’s Day Weekend. This was during our ‘mini-honeymoon’ and my husband is also active military. We were sadly mistaken thinking this restaurant was a good choice. Upon entering the restaurant, we were – for a lack of better terms – greeted by an employee that told us there would be a wait. We said we’d like to sit at the bar and we were informed that would be a wait, too. Taking our chances, we sat at the bar and waited patiently. Waited, waited, while the employee passed us, getting drinks and speaking with other guests. She finally flopped menus down in front of us and asked what we wanted to drink. She got my husband his beer and my water and we sat and waited for another 10 – 15 minutes for anyone to acknowledge us. By this time, we were trying to decide if we wanted to even stay here. The employee came back up to us and asked if we had decided, and swiped our menus from us before we even said that we had decided to just pay for the beer and leave. Normally, I like to read from the menu what I would like to order. Here’s the kicker! We paid cash for the beer and before leaving, I used the restroom while my husband waited outside the door. Evidently she didn’t see him standing there, because she proceeded to call us a**holes to other patrons. My husband looked at her and told her that he was still standing there, and she reiterated her thoughts of us to him. I understand it may be Sunday and you may be understaffed, but that is absolutely no reason to not smile at your customers or be completely, downright rude to them! We tried to be as nice as possible, and be understanding customers, but instead, the employees insult us directly to our faces.

Great food! Awesome service. A bit pricey but everything in Montauk is so don’t be discouraged by the prices, totally worth it. Must get is the stuffed mushrooms with spinach and artichokes! Tuna over mozzarella cheese, tomatoes and Spanish is also amazing!

So we’re driving around Montauk looking for a place to eat and everything is packed. Like Labor Day packed! so finally we drive past Sammy’s and there is little action in the parking lot. Plus it is a local’s place. Score! Let’s try it out. We mosey in, sit at the bar(I mean really, the bar is the best place to sit and eat!). and proceed to order. Bartender was classic — tall, thin wearing designer eyeglasses and gold jewelry. Perfect! We’re handed a couple of menus and then some guy is like, hey did Sanchez throw an interception?(the Jets-Jaguars preseason game is on the TVs). And order we do: Raw Oysters, clams in a broth, bacon wrapped scallops, lobster bisque, lobster roll and lobster burger. And honestly, every things was delicious. Not earth shatteringly great, but definitely above average. I will be definitely returning here on subsequent holidays to Montauk. The clams, lobster roll and lobster burger are all delicious. But my personal favorite was the lobster bisque. So rich, so thick, so tasty. OMG, I absolutely loved it! So in between discussing the Jets, hearing some women at the other end of the bar getting drunk and loudly talking, the waitress cleaning off the laminated menus with 409 immediately to my left and the bartender proclaiming, these guys are eating like men tonight’, one fabulous meal was had. Highly recommended!

Hands down, 5 stars. The lady at our hotel suggested Sammy’s to us when we checked-in. She had mentioned they had good lobster rolls so on our final night in Montauk, we decided to give it a shot. When we arrived, it wasn’t too crowded and we were quickly seated outside, where you can sit and watch the boats. I saw they only opened a year ago so I was unsure of what to expect but I was definitely not disappointed. On the specials, they had a lobster burger. We asked our(awesome waitress) about it and she explained it as lobster meat, held together with scallops, with lettuce & tomato, and avocado. It was so good! Amazing. It was also very filling. Prices are average considering what we ordered. Service is very fast and helpful. They also play catchy tunes in the bar and people tend to begin singing along. Get the lobster burger.

The first thing I asked when we checked into our hotel was where were the best spots to have lobster rolls in Montauk. Our lady grabbed a guide and circled Sammy’s. On our last evening, we decided we’d take a cab ride to the docks to have ourselves some lobster rolls. The place is casual and our waitress, Mary, was super friendly. Because it was quite windy out, they had a covered outdoor area so we were able to enjoy the view of the boats while sitting outside sans wind in our hair. We all had plans to just get lobster rolls until we were given the specials menu and on the very bottom was a Lobster Burger. We were all hooked. Lobster burger with lettuce, tomato and avocado with a side of fries and cole slaw. Done. So good. My girlfriends and I had a great dining experience here and we were so glad our lady at the motel steered us this way!
