Just got the news today the Cranetown has closed after less than three months. I’m not shocked, given how unpleasant our experience was. RIP.

The food was very good but they really need to either train the people working there to be up to par with the food(and price point) of the restaurant or get a manager on the floor. Everyone working there looked like they were young college kids with no restaurant experience. All very very nice kids but they seemingly didn’t have a clue how to do things. Food was interesting but they couldn’t get the right food to the right tables and there was only 3 groups eating there. Had it been crowded I can hardly imagine. Please train these nice young people how to work in a high end restaurant. Obviously it’s there first experience.

Cranetown is a beguiling blend of Chinese cooking, Japanese style, and a lot of fresh ingredients. The cilantro-and-sesame-flecked cucumber salad is excellent, as is the hot-and-sour soup with a hefty kick of garlic. The short ribs entrée was tender and full of flavor, and the fried rice with egg and pea leaves, cooked with short-grain rice, was a neat take on a familiar dish. The presentation was elegant, and I say that as a diner who usually doesn’t care about matters like that. The service was excellent, and that I do care about. Montclair has a lot of fine restaurants, but none like this. Worth another visit soon.

Great new restaurant in Montclair which serves high end Chinese food. Definitely try the hot/sour soup – was clearly made with good quality ingredients and care. All good was nicely presented and delicious. Highlights were the Kung pao wings, Duck egg fried rice, and pork belly. The chef, Brian, was around and very friendly. I hope this place succeeds as it fills a good void in the local food scene.

Had dinner at this place last night. Food was absolutely delicious. There were three of us so we ordered a bunch of stuff to share. Dumplings, chicken wings, duck egg fried rice, shrimp, pork belly and short ribs. All were amazing! Will definitely be back soon. This place is byob which is always a plus. Have never written a review before, but compelled to do so given how much i enjoyed the meal.
