—- CLOSED — - This was by far the worst place in Monterey. Glad it is gone. Although it did have some sort of draw for the 20 and under crowd at times, mostly because they could not have catered to anyone else. The music even for House was boring, much like Hippodrome they could not keep their licenses because they could not stop letting in Teens. They stopped serving drinks in glass because they kept on breaking on the pavement and Linoleum. It’s now Turn 12 after many iterations this has become a nice place to assemble and it’s not too dysfunctional for Monterey. Please don’t even try to compare us to SF. We are the Bay that counts HAHA. Actually we are just low key. For something a bit more upbeat try Planet Gemini

This was just ok. Nothing compares to club in San Francisco. The entry price is reasonable. I guess this is the best place in Monterey area.

BOOOO!!! Luxe Lounge is hands down the worst club I have ever gone to. Crap music, horrible décor, everyone is dressed like theyre just going to some pizza joint… This place is crawling with creeps and cholas. On top of that there’s a lousy cover charge for girls too and the drinks are way over priced. Half the people walking out were in their late 30’s and the rest of that crowd was annoying. Let me be more clear, I felt like I was paying to party with people my mom’s age and everyone else was dressed for a regular house party. The girl bartenders looked like they were in their pj’s and not that I have anything against braces but girl looked like she could bite my arm clean off. The guy bartender was nice though. I’m not even gonna review the music, songs played for about a minute each and were all helllllla old. No, not classics(Biggie, 2Pac) old, think more like Mystikal and Juvenile old. Why there was a line to get in is still a mystery to me. Left after 10 minutes of being there.

Awful, just awful. First, there was a $ 10 cover charge. The décor is terrible, it’s basically just like an open space with a bar on each side and some random cheap tables in the middle. The dance floor is tiny but I didn’t even feel like dancing because the music was«meh». The bartenders were NOT hot, so I don’t know what that other reviewer is thinking… not only that, they were not friendly at all. There is security everywhere, which is good because the crowd is generally a rough group of people. Lots of thugs and hoodrats, which I NEVER would have expected in a place like Monterey. There was literally a couple having sex on a chair on the dance floor… security was standing right next to us just watching. Drinks were expensive, tuny and extremely weak. Will never go again, lesson learned.

Hmmm, I wonder where Ninja S works. Anyways, I had a good night here on a Friday, but it was probably mostly due to my friends. The music wasn’t my favorite. There were a few good songs, but most were blah. A lot of Zumba-esque music. Ew. And I didn’t like that songs were only played for about a minute before it was on to the next. The clientele was iffy. It wasn’t very diverse and it took a long time before many people started dancing. I’d go back, but mostly for lack of other options.

Do you like paying a cover charge for a Bar that isn’t located in a decent sized city? Do you like paying way to much for any drink you may want? How about having to fight though throngs of people to try and get that expensive drink?

5STARSFORHOTTESTSTAFFAS A WHOLE! Damn those Bartenders are on POINT! Yes Luxe has had a very rough time building up their image but they are actively weeding out the garbage idiots who come in and ruin everyone’s great time! New STRICT dress code in effect… good bye losers helllooooo awesome party people who actually go out to have FUN! Did I mention the HoT BaRtEnDeRs Yet?! ;)

How many times has this horrible location changed its tenants over the years? Sharkey’s, The Long Bar, Doc’s and now the Luxe Lounge… Too many to count(well okay 4). But no matter what they do, new interior, new crowd, etc, the one thing that never changes is the FAIL!

This place is an amorphous mess of a venue. There isn’t really much of a layout, besides the two bars across from each other, tables and chairs strewn about, and a table and chairless area used as a dance floor. In the Luxe Lounge’s defense, the drinks are pretty good and so is the music. I’d come here again if I was in the area, but I’d still have my reservations.

ick. this place is getting three stars simply for being the only night club in the area right now. That’s all that they have to recommend them. The DJ was horrible. He would never place any song for more than 45 seconds and he mixed everything with house/techno beats. The crowd was a little shy as well. But then I just forgot how long it takes for people to get drunk enough to hit the dance floor.

This place is ok. As it is the last nightclub to be standing in Downtown Monterey. This place has great DJ’s. The resident DJ top level for this area and is reflected in the popularity of the locals. This place can be packed thurs-sat nights and this place can be even packed on Wednesday nights when there is an event in town. Over this is the place to go if your looking for a night club in Monterey and want a hip hop vibe because this is really one of the only spots that plays top 40 or hip hop.

This place reminds me exactly of why I moved away from Monterey. First of all the bathroom stalls are FILTHY as F!! CK and the toilets are overflowing with tissue paper and ass gaskets. They charge cover for a ghetto ass place and I guess they felt like they had the right to do so because the selection of dance clubs is so scarce and the management is trying to capitalize on the concept of Supply and Demand. I think they should have someone fix the bathrooms and clean it regularly if they had the audacity to charge a cover. The floor is extremely sticky from all the booze spilled by people who can’t handle their liquor. The sound quality and music they play sucks. The drinks are way overpriced. They charge booze like they’re from SF, LA or NYC. Ummm no thanks! But again, no choice, you’re already there, so you might as well buy their drinks. The clientele is pretty much ghetto. The women wear clothes that are three sizes smaller so they end up like walking sausages or the Michelin Man. I’m surprised they can even breathe. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not hating on voluptuous women(I have«contours» and am pretty thick myself), but come on! Wear clothes that are actually flattering! Or at least invest on a pair of SPANX. I swear it will make those rolls disappear. The men are just as guilty but they do the opposite. They wear their pants extremely baggy(possibly three sizes bigger) and low(almost to the knees). It makes you wonder whether they got a hand me down from the Fat Bastard and they spent too much money on cigarettes to be able to afford a decent belt. Did I miss the Official Luxe memo on dress code? Just like the other reviewers who gave the same exact rant as me, I pretty much just go here because I get dragged out by my friends to this godforsaken place whenever I visit from out of town. It’s the only way I can hang out, dance and have a few drinks with them.

This place is garbage. I lived in Monterey pretty much my whole life and I guess this place is the«best» Monterey has to offer as far as club/bar scene or whatever you wanna call it and it’s definitely not impressive. They of course let the girls in for free(I think. I can’t remember) and I know that back in June they charged guys a $ 5 cover fee to get in which was pretty stupid. I just went there yesterday and they charge $ 10 now!!! That is outrageous! And the sad part is that guys actually pay to get into the luxe. Oh, unless you’re «best friends» with the security. then you get to cut the line(yea. there’s a line. sometimes) and get in for free. The only reason I paid to get in was cause I came up from SoCal to visit some friends I haven’t seen in a while and they were all there. Some people actually get all dressed up for this place too. as if they’re going to some club in Vegas or LA. really though… you’re in Monterey. I don’t know who these people are trying to impress. it’s the same people EVERY weekend. but it gives me a pretty good laugh so whatever. The music in there is mediocre, at best. I swear they were playing the same songs now that they were playing back in June when went. If I never had to go back to the luxe. I’d be much happier.

I just visited luxe lounge for the first time last night. I had a blast! Its a club… plain and simple. Theres an awesome dance floor with a dj mixing up the most popular top 40s songs with a few extra oldies mixed in(journey, def leppard). If your young or young at heart, this is the place for you. I will say that mixed drinks are a little pricey($ 8 for a sex on the beach) but hey, the bartenders didn’t disappoint. Anyway, I met lots of cool people at this place. Ill definitely be going back!

We went on a Friday night and had a good time here with four other people. There was no cover, so $ 8 for a drink didn’t seem that bad. The big plus for me was the DJ. GREAT music to dance to. We all had fun and are planning on going again.

This place sees so OUT of place! I came with a local(who would not like his/her name mentioned) who warned me that this place was not your normal bar in the area. Um yeah, I felt like I was suddenly transported to some club in the city. Boys were drooling over the girls in their best club attire. The drinks weren’t too expensive like the club I felt like I was in so there’s one star. Minus 2 stars for both sinks in the women’s room being clogged and filled to the brim. Gross. I don’t feel like doing math so I’m not going to calculate the rest.

Ok, my friend and I are trying to explore the nightlife in Monterey and came accross this lounge. Expecting it would have a mature setting, it was a club. I guess old age is catching up(almost becoming an old-timer, I guess. Haha) but the music was loud and the only one dancing on the dance floor was this up-beat female bartender which I’m glad I ordered beer because the way she made cocktails were quite entertaining. There were random people coming in and out to use the restrooms. We went on a Saturday night and it was pretty dead. But I’m sure if it were packed with people, it would have been popping.

This would have gotten more stars from me– if I was 40+, but since I am a 24 yr old-that’s not happening. The second you walk up to this place you get weird looks from the doormen if your not their usual crowd. Walk in and don’t expect a «poppin club” — for me it was sort of entertaining, not having ever been to a place like the«Lux Lounge». All in all there was a cover fee just for me to turn around and walk right out the door(30 mins later). I really did try to like the place. I’m not age prejudice but its just not my cup of tea when I am trying to go out and have a good time. I guess for those more mature folk that are into the kinda music their band plays then hey you will love this place. I only gave this 2 stars because I saw the cutest old couple dancing(70+) while I was there– nothing more adorable than and old couple in love.

It’s in the old Long Bar/Doc Rickett’s Lab etc. place. So the new place’s name will be «Luxe» till the next stabbing takes place, or the owner forgets to pay rent again. Anyway, it’s more wide open than the previous floor plan. So much so that table space is at an even higher premium. Oh, and speaking of higher premiums… $ 6 for an 8 oz. beer and a full $ 10 for a Jaeger shot. Music was typical club stuff, and for now the crowd was decent and not the thugish type that typified previous clientele. Basically it’s the same place it used to be, with higher drink costs and more room to move. Oh, and I think they need to get some sound guys in on their speakers because the treble was out of control, haha. It’s gotta be pretty bad for me to notice something like that. Enjoy, and happy Unilocaling.
