Jakes has gone downhill unfortunately. We were dying for a nice order of fried clams for lunch. The cost was $ 25. We got exactly 14 clams. If you like clam strips this would be for you but this was supposed to be the whole belly clams The bellies on the majority of the clams were about the size of an eraser. Nothing to write home about. The majority of them were clam strips. Definitely not worth $ 25. Unfortunately three or four still have the shelf baked inside of them and it was annoying. The batter was tasteless and we had to add extra lemon and salt just to make them a tiny bit tasty. Very nice place if you have a dog as you can sit outside with a well behaved dog. Otherwise I’m going to have to pass on Jake’s.

I had lunch at Jake’s. Here’s what I thought of what I had this time. The tossed salad was small, but good. The fried scallops are the best anywhere IMO. The onion rings were good, but I might try the French fries next time.

We stopped here at Jake’s and were very happy we did. I had the Maine Crab roll and it was great! One of the best that I have had. I think it was just crab meat nothing else in a toasted roll — delicious. The onion rings were very good. We also got the Whole Maine Clam roll and thought that was excellent. A small, casual restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating. The prices were very reasonable for great food.

I’ve eaten at Jake’s before and it’s good enough, but then I ordered the calamari. Rather than an order of nicely coated and fried rings, I got a couple of rings, lots of bellies and tentacles and then a batch of entire bodies, coated and fried. I’ve eaten calamari all over the world and never seen the entire body served breaded and fried. I began doubting they knew what they were serving when they asked if I wanted tartar sauce or cocktail sauce with my order. A question I’ve never before encountered with squid. Try their lobster rolls or fried clams. They’re good enough. Not great. But STAYAWAY from the CALAMARI. Big rubbery unappetizing YUCK.

Great food, great people. Went here with a friend earlier this Winter. Haven’t been to this place in over 8 years and it still tastes awesome :) I live in New Hampshire and it’s worth a drive all the way to Maine just to get seafood.

I was pretty disappointed in the food here. I am a frequent Maine«goer» and stay right nearby. I was looking to cure my fried food itch and man, my experience did anything but that. The chowder was forgettable, the tuna roll was loaded with mayo and runny, and the onion rings were cold and soggy. I was totally let down. I really wanted to like this place because the pure sight of it is so familiar to me. Maybe I will try again?

Absolutely delicious! Ordered the perfect lobster rolls with amazing, thin, fresh cut onion rings. Tried the fried calamari and fried clam strips… I’m probably going to dream about this meal tonight. What a wonderful experience. Highly recommended.

With its location right on Post Road(US Hwy 1), I assume that Jake’s Seafood caters to tourists. Whether or not that is true, we were tourists, and we also liked it quite a bit. It’s a simple set up. You either order outside at a window and take away with you. Or you order at a window inside and can sit in a small dining area(or still take away with you). We ate in for lunch two days in a row, and enjoyed both times. First day we got hot lobster rolls, with sides of their homemade onion rings. Delicious. Lobster was just as buttery as I wanted, with the meat still tender & not rubbery. Generous amount, too. Roll was soft and fresh. Onion rings were noteworthy too — thin cut and tempura coated, with the onions easily bitten through. Second day I got a bowl of lobster bisque and a traditional cold lobster roll(with onion rings again), while the wife just got a cup of the lobster bisque. Cold lobster roll was quite good, too — just enough mayo to hold the slaw on the lobster, so that the lobster flavor was still dominant. Lobster bisque was really savory. Strong, but not overpowering lobster flavor in a creamy base. Note, however, that the bowl is probably 2x or more the size of the cup, while being only $ 8 vs. $ 6 for the cup. Oh, I almost forgot — the crispy pickle slice that came with the lobster rolls was pretty tasty too!

Sometimes perfection comes easily to some. This place is a classic example of how they know to do their thing right. The only things I have had here that blew me away: Lobster Roll & Onion Rings! Talk about perfection! Lobster roll: A lobster and a some more worth of fresh lobster meat. Fresh in every bite. Warm and made meltier with drawn butter. On a New England roll that is lined inside with very little fresh lettuce but warm on the outside. Every little bite you take, you have to stop yourself to take a bigger bite right after, to avoid gulping that giant roll in flashes. You tell yourself — take your time, take it slow, take it easy — relish this heavenly goodness. And then you look at the side of your plate… The onion rings! Onion Rings: Easily and hands down — The BEST onion rings I have ever had — in all my adult life. As thin as possibly thin that they can be cut. The batter so crisp and so light — you search for traces of oil on your paper plate to feel guilty after wolfing down all the fried guilty pleasure. Guess what — no go. You won’t find any trace of oil on the paper plate. How can that be? These are fried onion rings. Not sure what the magic is but sure seems like it. No pieces of crumbs left behind — the batter sticks to the onion rings like no bodies business. I say define perfection? I say — Jake’s lobster roll and onion rings! Period.

We were looking for lobster rolls and we found them at Jakes. You can get them with mayo or warm with hot butter. Is there really a choice there? Warm with hot butter it was. They grill the bun and load in the lobster, just like it should be. My only critique would be to put a piece of lettuce on the bottom of the roll to keep the base from getting a little bit soggy. All in all, an awesome lobster roll and well worth it. We also got the onion rings which were very good. A little thinner with not too much breading. Very well done. To top it off we got the fish tacos. While I typically don’t go for fish tacos if the dish is fried, these were also very well done and very tasty. If you are up in the area, Jakes is a great spot for a lobster roll. Parking can be a bit tricky as the lot gets full quick, but worth it. They have a small outdoor seating area on the side which is nice, but we grabbed ours to go.

Jake’s is a place I often pass by when searching for food along Route One. I have dined here a few times, but it was not always my first choice. Jake’s has good food, but I believe the ordering system is a deterrent for me. Upon entering the front door you step into a very high traffic area which includes both the order and pick up windows, coffee station, trash, bathrooms, and the entrance to the dining room. People standing in line to order awkwardly block the paths of customers going in many different directions to utilize all the facilities packed into this one small area. After being gently bumped a couple times and hearing a few«excuse me’s» from all directions, I was happy to place my order and escape to safety of an empty booth awaiting me in the dining room. Once here, you wait for your number to be called and then bravely fight your way back to the counter to pick up your food. This scenario is most likely to happen when the restaurant is at its busiest, so that is something to be mindful of when planning a meal at Jake’s. It is a very small building so in the restaurant’s defense, it must work with and make the best of its limited square footage. Jake’s has options however. You can place an order at the outside window and take it to go without ever having to step inside. There are also some seats located within a fenced area to the left of the restaurant. This seating area is surrounded by trees and looks like a shady and peaceful place to enjoy breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Yes, it’s true, Jake’s also serves breakfast and a real good one at that. The breakfast menu is limited, but offers something for everyone. I had the egg sandwich on a bagel. The bagel was grilled perfectly and was delicious. It was one of those breakfast sandwiches you still continue to think about days later. On prior visits I had tried a couple of Jake’s fried seafood plates and was pleasantly surprised. Jake’s may appear a bit low key on the outside and some may not care for the ordering system, but definitely give this little place a try. I am beginning to realize this little restaurant is not a drive by.

My Fiancé and friend are here for breakfast this past weekend. I got blueberry pancakes a grilled muffin, two eggs overheard, home fries and an iced coffee. It was all super delicious. The only thing I didn’t really care for was waiting in line right by the front door. People are walking in out and around you it’s a little confusing at first. If rather sit at the table and order from the table. But I do have to say the wait worth it;) it was DELISH. I will definitely be back again soon. The waitresses were very professional and the kitchen was super clean. I love how you can see the kitchen when you order and walk into the restaurant. we noticed there is an outside patio as well with lots of tables where you can sit on a beautiful sunny morning. I’d definitely recommend eating breakfast here. If you are a seafood person which I am not I heard its known for its seafood as well!;)

We have been dining at Jake’s for 16 years now. The clam strips are plentiful and the onion rings are pretty decent to. The fries are so so and you can get the same at Burger King. The chicken strips are fresh as well and very tasty not frozen at all. So if your looking for a reasonable priced take out this is the place. Call ahead or order at the window it usually takes about 10 minutes whether you call ahead or order at the window. You see a lot of familiar faces throughout the years of the same staff working there. We have never dined in but they have increased the size of the place over the years.

We ended up here, because it was open late, but we were so happy we found this place. They had seating but after a long day, it was nice to get take out and head back to the hotel. I had the clam strips with homemade onion rings and cole slaw. I loved it all!(And I’m not usually a lover of cole slaw.) My boyfriend had the fish fry, onion rings and cole slaw and he also loved it. It may not have been the healthiest meal, but it sure was tasty.

This was our first stop on our three week trip to the northeast. I wanted a lobster roll since that’s supposed to be all the rave in Maine. I thought the lobster roll was just average. It lacked flavor and was on the pricey side. The coleslaw that came with it was bland. I would not come here again if I were to visit Maine again in the future.

An old Route 1 fried seafood standby. The food is usually tasty enough(except for the odd crab shell or moldy bagel. Big part of the reason for 2 stars) but not always the highest quality. They are open later than many places though and offer a large variety of mostly fried items and ice cream. Seating is fairly limited so take your order to go.

Just ok… Jake’s is located just a few minutes away from Ogunguit Center. We were told it has a great lobster roll. Tossed with mayo and served with lettuce on a toasted bun, the lobster was not as meaty as other lobster rolls we had in Ogunguit. The french fries were a bit overcooked but ok. Overall, Jake’s was ok but a bit skimpy and not as fresh as we had become used to, especially at the lobster joints along Perkin’s Cove.

Came here because I saw all the 4 to 5 star ratings of this place on Trip Advisor and Unilocal.I must say I was mightily disappointed. Overpriced. The lobster roll, while filled with lobster meat, was tiny. I understand quality over quantity but I’ve had other more substantial lobster rolls that tasted the same. Really didn’t see anything special about this one. The clam chowder was like a cup of evaporated milk that they happened to season with salt and add clams and potatoes. And there were more potatoes than clams! Service was quick and the dining area is clean but small. They do have patio seating. It wasn’t crowded when we came in because we came after lunch hour. I was not happy and I am not going back there again.
