Awesome! Go there! This weekend friends and I had the pleasure of starting out here for the Eldorado Wine Passport event. The staff built on the same great experience we had from last year. Very friendly, good service, with an excellent selection.

Deliciousness! Had the most amazing time wine tasting at Mt. Aukum. Not only were the wines incredible(Viognier was my favorite!), but the amazing service was extraordinary. We really appreciated the tour and behind the scenes look at all the work that goes into creating the deliciousness! Can’t wait to return again…

Location, location, location… this winery has that part of the equation nailed! A long narrow road circles you up to the top of a pretty good sized hill, the winery is just on the other side. Fabulous view to enjoy while you’re tasting the good stuff! While I did not find all their wines to my liking, a couple of them were outstanding. If you’re even near this place you need to stop by. Lots of easy parking, nice tasting room, great views, helpful staff — might even be a great stop for a picnic!

beautiful view, horrible wines. every wine we tasted was just awful! lastly we tried the desert — was fortified with moonshine. who in there right mind mixes wine with moonshine? makes no sense. we ended up going to another winery down the hill cal karmare.(awesome wines) the bar/wine tender was telling us that Mt Akum winery has been bought and sold many times over the last few years and has had many different wine makers. well, the current wine maker clearly doesn’t know what hes doing.

They have some of the best wines in El Dorado County and the views from their tasting room are amazing, you truly feel like you are on top of the world. They have two blends that I was very impressed by, En Fugo & Vertigo. They had some events last summer where we could watch the sun set from their«front yard» and it was breath taking, plus enjoying it with a glass of their wine made the entire experience one to remember. The service in the tasting room was excellent, the staff was knowledgeable and courteous.

Thanks to Jeff and Michel for making Mount Aukum one of my favorite Amador wineries to visit. The drive is a little bit out of the way, but worth it for 3 reasons. The View, The Wine, and the Staff. The view of the valley is spectacular and i highly suggest buying a bottle of your favorite, bring a picnic and sit outside at one of their tables to each lunch and enjoy the view and the wine. The wine is a great collection, my favorites of which are the Petite Syrah, and the Zinfandel. Most of my wine fridge is full of Mount Aukum, so each time i plan to open a bottle i’m thrilled to have more Mount Aukum to enjoy. The only reason i don’t give it 5 starts is because 2 of the 08′ zinfandel I bought futures of had problems with the corking, so by the time i opened them there was carbonation and it tasted like wine soda than the zin i was expecting. Disappointing, but hopefully i don’t find any more bottles like that.

Another place to let us taste ten different wines. The wine was pretty good and the view was fantastic. This is red wine country, make no mistake, and some of their blends were very nice. We particularly like the ‘En Fuego’ and the Petite Sirah. We bought a bottle of each and enjoyed their picnic area and the view with the wine. The tasting room sales person was very helpful and positive as we drank. On many occasions this person is not pleasant and dressed unprofessionally. This was not the case here, as she was always in a good mood and willing to do whatever we asked. Again, great view, good wine, great lunch, great company, friendly help and a nice time.

You havent really had a great zin until you stop in here! What a beautiful place and great wines! I was here for the 2011 Barrel Tasting and it was one of my favorite stops. Even if it is cloudy in the valley wait till you get up here!!! It was sunny and gorgeous by the time you pull in. The Zinfandel Sierra Foothills was my favorite wine here… loved the flavors and the spicy complexity.

I first heard of Mount Aukum when I was at the El Dorado Wine, Brew and Cheese festival. They had their own booth and I was pleasanty surprised by their wine collection. I love their APOGEE so much! It is the farthest winery away from the Amador County Harvest Festival but I thought we would make an extra special trip despite the fact that they didn’t participate in this years festivities. Jeff was working when my boyfriend and I visited the winery. He was super helpful and personable; very knowledgeable about the wine and grapes. The winemaker was there that day and Jeff was kind enough to introduce us to him. We even had a special invitation to try the wine in the back! After about an hour and a half there my bf and I decided to be wine club members! Two bottles a month… sweet! Really enjoyed out trip there and can’t wait to pick up our wines in a few months! Oh and the view is spectacular!!!

The fifth, and last stop on my first introduction to El Dorado AVA. Maybe I was a little tired, or maybe I had been driving too much, but I can only give this place an «ok». I heard about the view from Mount Aukum and that didn’t disappoint, but I felt the wine didn’t quite measure up to some of the other places we had been to earlier. My favorite was the Petite Sirah, the non-reserve Fair Play 07 label. Otherwise, nothing stood out. The lady serving us was very nice, though… they were offering 50% off on cases of the Petite I really liked, but she said she’d give me the same discount on a single bottle, so I bought one. To be fair, I’ll have to visit this place earlier on in my next visit and give it another shot.

The views are really beautiful and you gotta see that oak tree. When you go, you will know what I mean. We stopped in, well, after the crazy driveway, we were pretty glad to be there. BUT it’s worth it! I loved the Rhone style blend, Four of a Kind, as well as the whites. The Marsanne was a winner and we took a couple of those home. These wines represent to me an interesting balance between the European wines I have had and California wines. I absolutely loved loved the Zinfandels and yes, found some room in the box for a few of those as well. I found them to be very balanced, fruity and tanic, the right amount of acid. Of the two, one is a bit sweeter, which was great with fruit and cheese. I liked that I could taste fruit but it wasn’t a sock me in the face kind of fruit. I encourage you to give them a try, take home a bottle or two and follow their food pairing suggestions. They are dead on, thanks to an educated staff! Cheers Chef Jen
