Wow I totally thought I had reviewed Water’s Edge already. On one hand, that’s kind of surprising considering how many times I’ve eaten here. On the other, it’s really not because Water’s Edge isn’t the most memorable spot in Charleston/Mount P by any means. However, Water’s Edge deserves some recognition in that I think it’s the best actual restaurant on Shem Creek(disclaimer: I have yet to eat at Tavern and Table). Everywhere on Shem Creek provides a view and happy hour, but Water’s Edge actually delivers with a legitimate sit down dining experience that’s not straight off the Sysco food truck. The atmosphere is kind of seventies or eighties or something of another era. Once you go, you’ll know what I mean. Personally I think it’s endearing and a sort of throwback to my youth, but I dare you to tell me the last time you ate at a restaurant decorated in wood panels, navy, and brass. Uh huh, I thought so. As for the food, I’ve been several times in the summer when my non-foodie parents were in town. I think this kind of goes back to the 1970s vibe/50+ crowd friendly factor. Water’s Edge is straightforward basic seafood done right. Their paella is a serious bang for you buck seafood sampling. I’ve tried a few of their pastas as well, and they are all tasty and heavy on the shrimp. Added bonus that you get to enjoy the view of dolphins and Shem Creek itself with dinner. Tonight provided me with my first time to ever try happy hour at Water’s Edge. DAMN! That’s a bargain. Yes, the crowd was a little more«silver’ than Red’s, but the prices also can’t be beat. $ 4 glasses of wine and ½ off bar menu from 4 – 7 is hard to beat. The beer and well drinks are even cheaper. The crab fritters are delicious fried food, especially for $ 6. It’s right on the water, and hell I’m not getting any younger, so consider me a huge fan and future frequenter of Water’s Edge happy hour. Basically Water’s Edge is a no brainer for happy hour given the prices, and I for one think it’s a solid choice for an old school seafood dinner on Shem Creek. Enjoy!
