Hertz Rent A Car

This place is a joke. I frequently travel for business and rented from Hertz 15+ times in 2014 so when I got into a car accident and needed a 4-​day rental, I asked the insurance adjuster if I could use Hertz (trying to be a loyal customer as the airport locations have always treated me well).
Wow, what a TERRIBLE experience with an incompetent staff. For starters, when making the reservation I told them I needed to be picked up from the body shop. They told me to call them 15 minutes before I would need to be picked up and they would come get me. So I do what they say and when I called from the body shop, I was told «we don’t have you in the schedule and all our people our out. Let me speak to the manager and we’ll get back to you.» OK fine, I’m annoyed but I work close by so I caught an UBER to my office and figured I would deal with it later. So after I work for a few hours (thinking i’d give them time to slow down and never getting a call back from them), I called again and was told they were busy, didn’t have anyone available to pick me up, but they try and figure out when I could be picked up and would call back. I waited two hours and never heard from them.
I needed a car today and couldn’t deal with this Hertz location’s incompetence for fear that I wouldn’t have a way home tonight, so I called my insurance adjuster and had my rental moved from Hertz and over to Enterprise (who was more than happy to have my business and scheduled a pick-​up within 45 min of my call to set-​up the reservation).
I called back for the 3^rd time this morning and asked to cancel my reservation. The same woman who I delt with this morning answered and when I asked to cancel the reservation she just simply said «OK» and tried as quickly as possible to get me off the phone. I was a bit shocked that they just let 4 day car rentals walk away so easily. Oh well, their loss and their competitors gain.
Overall Hertz airport locations have been very good to me. But this branch is a disaster. If you need Hertz find another location, otherwise, if you are in the area go with a competitor. Spend your hard earned money with a staff that gives a damn.

I wish had read the reviews before using this location. Hertz almost lost a customer. After searching for several days for a good car rental rate, I found a great rate for a mid sized SUV online if you prepay. I was happy to prepay as that meant no surprise charges. WRONG! Warning! The person picked me up, drove me to the rental office. So far good service. I asked 5 times «I prepaid, so nothing else will be charged» and he said 5 times that there are no additional charges unless the car is not returned on time. Woke up the next day and an additional $ 200 was removed from my account! Apparently you pay a security deposit anytime you rent with Hertz in case you are late returning the car. I did NOT authorize this, it was not in any paperwork, was not disclosed on the website or confirmation email. After patronizing and rude discussions with another employee and the manager and after getting a compact SUV that looks like a hatchback instead of a larger one I swore I would never go here again. However, when returning the vehicle, an apology was made, they were friendly (different person from the phone person), and really went out of their way to make up for everything. The deposit was returned same day. I will try them again!

This location is a little weak in staff and in car quality. Still waiting on a call back after three messages regarding an item left behind in the car. They are pretty slow to get the paperwork together and talk to eachother while you stand there waiting, overall not the best.

I’m only giving this 1 star because two managers from OTHER locations helped me. Otherwise this would be a 0. So i rented a car from them for about almost two weeks. While I was parked in Chicago, my coworker told me that she saw my car with a boot on it. I freaked out and went to my car. HOW CAN ONE GET A BOOT ON A RENTAL CAR?!
I called the mt prospect place since i got my car from there. the person i talked with on the phone was not rude, but made it seem like it was my fault that there was a boot on it saying, «maybe you parked in a spot you weren’t supposed to?» Really? You want to blame me for this? That did not help the situation at all. And it really bothered me. So he then tells me that a manager would call me back. 30 min later no one calls. so i call again, different person. it turns out the other person didnt/​forgot/​something tell the manager so that guy told me that a manager would call me back.
So while im waiting i had to take my time out of work to go to the city of chicago revenue and it turns out there were unpaid tickets on that rental car from a year ago. A YEAR ago.
by now almost one hour has passed.
so i got fed up called the corporate office they told me the same thing. they would have a manager call me. NO ONE CALLED AGAIN FOR AN HR. so i call mt prospect for the THIRD time. this is three hours later. turns out the manager there was «with a customer» (um, i was waiting for three hours. i think that customer can wait.) and was told that another manager would call me back in twenty min. i was pretty fed up. i had to call so many numbers i lost track, tell my story over and over to over six Hertz workers and was stuck in chicago.
i ended up being compensated for that day (i had to say that i want to be compensated… the manager did not offer which i thought she should have since i didnt drive the car all day because of hertz…) and was able to return it one day later since i had to work late the next two days (.because i didnt have a car) but i the reason why I am so upset is because i had to call this location THREE times and it took them almost FOUR HRS just to get this settled. I know sometimes its not the workers fault that a manager cant call, but i mean come on. this was too much. I thought my situation was probably higher priority then people at their store. this all happened at 1030 in the morning. i finally got a new rental car around 4pm. all in all a GREAT day…
Still angry thinking about it.
