When we came home from LA last week, there was a menu at our door which I put aside for some day. Yesterday as I wasn’t feeling well, I asked my husband to pick up some food. I called Shin Shin and the lady that took my order was very nice. When my husband picked up the food in 15 minutes, he said it was a small restaurant and the place was empty. He informed me that the restaurant is new to the area and since it’s hiding behind Bev Mo, people haven’t discovered it yet. The food was packed in plastic and paper containers. It wasn’t the best Chinese food but was good. Spicy garlic eggplant-tasty but a bit oily Roasted pork with beans-good Chicken soup with rice-okay(too much rice and not enough broth) I cooked my own rice so not sure about their rice. Overall the food was good but you may need to add soy sauce and hot sauce. Will probably order from them again.

Shin Shin(I’m not sure how the name correspond to its Chinese name) is quite literally a hole in the wall, but it offers some decent stuff. First off, the service. The woman at the front is really nice — sparked up a decent conversation which was quite intriguing. Now the food. The chow mein was pretty good(but then again, all chow mein is good). I liked the 3 for $ 19 menu, dishes were alright — not impressive, but it was still good. Good string beans. Slightly on the salty side. So it works out to around 3 stars. I’m giving one extra — why? Because of the containers. Anyone who’s been to a Chinese to go place knows about styrofoam. Everything is styrofoam. And FYI, styrofoam is terrible for the environment. It virtually doesn’t decompose, and there is not recycling available for styrofoam. So you could probably imagine why I was ecstatic when I saw that the 3-for-19 dishes were in plastic boxes. Yay for Shin Shin.

I only got a food platter of pork fried rice for $ 23. It was okay rice. The service was quick and there are not so many people eating here so it’s quiet too. If I want Taiwanese food — I’ll probably come here for a quick bite to eat.

Unbelievably, it’s been hard to find good Chinese food near my place. No, I do NOT count Mr. Chau’s or PF Chang as Chinese food. And I’m sorry, but when I see a name like«Wok’s On», I can’t help but think of «Rock On» or Mr. Miyagi’s «Wax On» and I pass on by. This place is a little hole in the wall that I found while going to Togo’s one day. I finally made it there today after a long bike ride, and I was starving. The place is small; it can only seat about 10 – 12. When I stopped in to grab a menu during the week, there were two people eating inside. When I went around 1pm today, there were no customers. I ordered a chicken fried rice and green bean beef. It took literally 10 minutes, most likely because the woks weren’t heated up yet since there were no customers. The wait was pretty long, but the woman in front was nice and I waited patiently. The fried rice was great, but the green bean beef was a bit oily. I know, I know, it’s Chinese food, but there are some places that don’t drown their food in oil. I’ll probably go there again to give it another chance, and if it’s better I’ll edit the rating. But for now, I’m a bit tentative. Here’s hoping.
