I came by when they first opened and had a nice chat with the owner about where he used to work and what kind of shave ice they were trying to create, and I was super excited about coming back to see how they would improve… BUTTHEYARECLOSED? :( I checked the website and there’s nothing there either, please come back! Hopefully you are simply relocating to a better location! I’ve been searching for amazing shave ice since I tried it at class 302 in Rowland Heights(is that right?) and starmelon was definitely the best in the area! I’m sad to see it go!

Tried to come in after we had a yummy pizza lunch(Saturday) at 12:30… Hours on Unilocal says they’re open today from noon — 9pm, but when we arrived they’re closed. Boo! Since there’s no business hours sign in the window either, I can’t check to see when they’ll actually be open. What, what?!! BOO again! :-/

This is in a dangerous neighborhood. Not because it’s close to E. Palo Alto, but because it’s next to Sunny Bowl and Hon Sushi. You roll out of those places semi-full, and you see Starmelon and think, «Shave ice sounds sooooo good right now, but I’m kinda full. But then again, shave ice isn’t that filling!» There’s lots of options for shaved ice — ranging from fruits to flavors and mochi. Some of the fruit was sour, probably because of the season. The shave ice bowls are ginormous and very reasonable in price if you’re sharing. Or you can live life on the edge by getting one all to yourself after dinner, Fatty.

This is the best shaved ice place in the South Bay. The shaved ice is soft, fluffy. Like eating a cloud of refreshment. It is not like the cold and crunchy shaved ice at all the other places. The most impressive thing about this place is the fruit. It seriously looks as good as the pictures. It is very fresh. The price is also very good. It is $ 4 for a small that can satisfy 2 people or $ 8 for a large that is good enough for 3 – 5. The location is not good. The owner was telling us how it is probably going to close and relocate. That makes sense it is in the same tiny place that Sunny Bowl was in. Sunny Bowl has moved next door. Basically, It is in that office park area behind the shoreline movie theater. There is nothing to do around there. And, it is out of the way. The service is great. But, they don’t have much in the way of decoration. Just some tables. It feels a little unfinished. Also, there is no display of any of the fruit or food prep area. So, the server goes into a back room and brings out your dessert. I hope they prepare the shaved ice in front of you if they move. I always like to see them put it together. One other thing I love is that they have more sweetened milk for you to add in case you like your shaved ice sweeter. This personalized approach means that everyone sharing a dessert can enjoy it their own way. I was really happy when the milk was brought to the table. I will definitely be back.

I love this place’s shaved ice desserts! They only opened a month ago, but sadly I heard from a store rep that they may be closing soon due to slow business. If this place were located in a high traffic location, it would be SO popular… they’re stuff is so good — soft ice piled high with fresh fruit, sweetened milk, and different flavors of ice cream. I’ve tried 2 of the 3 kinds so far and they’re amazing — Milky Way and Summer Breeze. Who knew buckwheat powder sprinkled on top would taste so good?! What makes it really great is that they actually shave fruit or something like that into the ice so that it’s infused with fruity flavor… yum! :) I also heard they may be relocating to Santa Clara and will operate under a different name! So, if you’re a fan like me, you should follow them on Facebook so that you know where their new location will be when it opens!

AMAZING! I’m really, really, REALLY happy this place opened up near my work… I mean, for a tasty treat, it doesn’t get any better than this! Who doesn’t love fresh sliced, seasonal fruit?(communists? heathens?) added to ice with some deliciousness to top it off(or wait patiently in the middle) and i’m SOLD! I’m pulling for this place to really thrive… the downfall is their location… totally hidden right off of Shoreline. It’s tucked behind The Sports Page, right off of Plymouth street… and nobody knows they’re there :(I know they could totally do well, I went to Starbucks with my co-worker and I was carrying a Summer Breeze and EVERYONE flipped out«OMG!!! WHEREDIDYOUGETTHAT?! WHATISTHAT!!! I WANTTHAT!!!» So I told ‘em…but i’m just one person… spread the word!

LOVETHISPLACE. I hope it stays open since the location isn’t the greatest. Definitely the best shaved ice I’ve had around here since my previous favorite in the area, Sinbala(which is now closed). We had the Milky Way. They load the bowl so full of fruit that it’s hard to eat without spilling — you have to be very careful. The texture of the shaved ice is great — nice and flaky like snow(not big hard crystals that you find at some of the other places). The mochi were nice and soft and the fruit was fresh. I love that they also give you milk on the side in case you want to sweeten it more(which we did). I definitely want to come back and try all the other flavors. Too bad the weather is starting to cool down a bit!

The place looked so bare when I visited. Was a bit skeptical to go in since the place was empty. Plus it was cold that nice and I didn’t really feel like something cold. However, they kept the heater on so high that it was super warm inside. My friend and shared an individual sized shaved ice. For $ 4 it didn’t seem so bad. Actually, it was a bit overpriced because you could get more for you money at Paris Baguette. The shaved ice was quite delicious and all the fruit were good. I probably wouldn’t hesitate to come back if it were slightly cheaper. If you’re eating at Sunny Bowl or Hon Sushi it’s convenient to stop by for some dessert. I thought it was hilarious that they have such a big freezer that is so empty.

This place is where Sunny Bowl used to be(fyi). The service was friendly and great, the environment was clean, and I loved the kpop music that was playing in the background! :) Tried the Summer Breeze($ 3.50 for single serving and $ 7 for 2 – 3 servings). The 2 – 3 serving size was pretty big, probably best for 3. The Summer Breeze was delicious– Watermelon infused, with Strawberries, Kiwis, Watermelon, and Strawberry Ice Cream(YUM!). I love the ice, it’s deliciously soft and the flavor was pretty evenly distributed. If you are looking for something a little lighter on the sweets and something more fruity fresh, Paris Baguette’s shaved ice is a pretty good alternative.

It’s $ 4 for an individual sized shaved ice which is large enough to share between 2 people but the pricing is still not as competitive as other places. The snowy texture still had too much of an icy texture for me. Pros: –Since the weather is getting colder they keep the temperature inside really warm so you can actually enjoy eating your shaved ice. –Most of the fruit was ripe and sweet(we’ll see as the season changes if this is still true) –They play a good mix of music and everyone seems pretty friendly Cons: –They don’t have an appropriate to-go container for their shaved ice so it’s best to eat it there… otherwise risk making a mess transporting it. –They’ve been open for a month and they still have a pretty limited menu. –They need bigger bowls it was hard to mix and eat without picking off most of the good stuff first As the weather only gets colder from now I imagine it would be really hard to maintain business solely off shaved ice and smoothies. Unless something changes(menu options, amenities, etc.) I can’t see this place lasting too long on its own. Sunny bowl should combine the two places and just add their items to their menu.

It’s rare to find places around the Bay area that sell shaved snow. To be honest, I was never really a fan of it either(probably because the places I’ve been to did a poor job at making them). But after trying their Milky Way shaved ice… I must say, it has to be one of the best shaved snows I’ve ever had! I also like the fact that Star Melon knows how to decorate them to make it look as good as it tastes. Another thing I want to mention is that the workers give quality service to ensure that their customers are satisfied with their orders. I hope they make a chain in the near future so they can maybe one day open one near my area. I will definitely be coming back =)

glad they serve shaved snow, so if you’re looking for the perfect powder that immediately melts and thus is super soft without any ice texture, then this is it. well done.(however it is different from class 302 style since it’s powder here instead of the soft sheets.) got the milky way. the condensed milk is supposed to be infused, but wasn’t exactly evenly distributed and could use more. $ 4 single serve which is nice(credit card $ 5 minimum fyi). the best part was the mochi with buckwheat powder and red bean to give it the satisfying asian touch. came back to try the orange creamsicle. $ 3.5 ok i think this is better since the ice cream adds a textural dimension to offset the super soft texture. vanilla ice cream, orange snow with fruit toppings(could have a little more), and fresh mochi. good.

I haven’t been this excited about a new place to eat in MV in a while! There were 2 things missing here that we NEEDED, and it was a good self serve froyo shop, and a shaved ice shop. And here it is! The day has come where I can indulge all day and not regret it. Not only does this little strip have pretty alright cheap sushi and the oh so amazing Sunny Bowl, but now we have the dessert to make those meals complete. Today, I had originally came here for some cheap eats at Hon Sushi and noticed that Sunny Bowl moved over one spot to the much bigger location that has been unoccupied for a while now, and this place has replaced it’s much smaller location. I grab my sushi to go, and I just HAVE to stop by this place really quickly, not only because I love shaved ice, but because it was hot as hell today and I couldn’t pass it up. I walk in and am warmly greeted by the 2 guys working there. They had been there for only a week and had just started up. They were super nice about helping me choose and telling me about their product, and on top of that, they made the exception for me to use my card for such a tiny purchase because i didn’t have any cash, most business owners will not do you the favour, but I’m glad they did because I couldn’t miss this. I got the Milky Way which is fruit, red bean, mochi and«milk-infused» shaved ice. They brought it out for me for my to-go order and I parted ways, completely ecstatic. As I’m leaving, I’m thinking, «damn, I hope I didn’t voice how excited I was and then it turn out to be totally mediocre», but surely enough, it was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! The milk infused shaved ice was the perfect texture, and the fruit tasted very fresh. And I love that the red bean has whole beans in it, not just red bean paste. I can see myself here fairly often, it’s shaved ice, so I didn’t feel yucky or like I cheated with dessert afterwards even though I wolfed it down. I have only had it once, and it’s only been open for a week, but I highly recommend this place so far, hopefully they just keep doing what they’re doing and they will go far. I know one thing is for sure, and it’s that I’m coming here tomorrow because I can already tell i’m going to be addicted. :)

Star melon is probably one of the best shaved snow/ice places in the bay area! The texture of their snow is super soft & creamy(almost like ice cream!) & it melts immediately when you take a bite. Since I started going to school in nor cal, I’ve been constantly craving good shaved snow. This place is definitely comparable to the shaved snow shops in so cal. I also really like the fact that they have two different sizes; most places only offer one. The pricing of their ice is also pretty decent. I will definitely be going back for more(: !

Opening day? Time to check the place out =) I never write reviews for places, but places selling patbingsoo are few and far between especially in the Bay Area. I kinda miss it, since I have a place I love in Anaheim. So I’m happy to find out that there’s a place that’s got good quality. The menu choices were somewhat limited, but it didn’t matter, I grabbed the Milky Way right away since it was what I wanted. I hear you can do custom orders if you want, but I haven’t tried it yet. For those of you grabbing that, make sure to mix it! Otherwise you’ll be left with a ton of red bean at the bottom(Tastes sooo much better mixed in with the shaved ice). Next time I come though I really want to try the Summer Breeze since I’m a huge strawberry fan. As for the environment, pretty chill area, not a bad place to just hang out with some friends for a little while, but if you’re just grabbing a drink it’s quick enough that you can just come in and grab something to go. You must try the shaved ice though if you visit =( Anywho, laptop’s running out of battery. Being from San Jose, I’ll definitely be back =)

Starmelon… new kid on the block for shaved snow. This place is new and improved compared to other shaved ice places i’ve been. Will continue to show them my support
