It’s kinda cool that Beaux Chevaux is a venue for local art and wine. To be honest, neither of which were my style, but it was still a nice place to stop on the Murphy’s strip. With a large free tasting menu of very reasonably-priced wines, it’s easy to find some you like. They source their grapes from nearby counties, as well as grow them in Calaveras. I found the Calaveras wines to be the most intriguing, although I wasn’t really blown away by anything they served. The 2008 Cinsault Rose was easily the most interesting wine I tasted. Not your great aunt’s white Zinfandel, this Rose actually tastes of fruit and is relatively complex. Great patio wine. Apparently, this resilient varietal does well with Calaveras weather. The 2005 Syrah and the 2006 Zinfandel were pretty ordinary but a good value around $ 15 bucks. I definitely like them more than the rest of the wine that is sourced from around the state, but it is all a pretty good value. I wouldn’t consider this very high on my priority list of Murphy’s tasting rooms, but you might as well pop in and decide for yourself. If you go wine tasting to get drunk on the other hand, this should be high on your list because the have like 8 pours for free.

Wine and art… two of the finer things in life. Our fifth and final wine tasting destination was Beaux Chevaux in Murphys. It is one of the newer tasting rooms in town and a nice addition to the downtown area. The main location is actually in Mountain Ranch(a small town in Calaveras County near San Andreas). The Beaux Chevaux tasting room is also an art gallery. The works of local artists are featured. I love that! The atmosphere is a combo between art show and cocktails(with wine of course) and a very chill and casual gathering of an eclectic group of peeps. I fell in love with the 2006 Petite Syrah… so smooth! This sounds really odd, but it reminded me of cake! As a cake lover I could not pass this up. Very Marie Antoinette minus the whole«let them eat cake» fiasco. Now all I need is a glass of my delicious Petite Syrah and a slice of red velvet cake and I’ll be a happy girl!
