Our family has eaten here many times over the years, and we are always happy with food, whether it be pizza, burger, taco’s, nachos etc, no complaints. The reason I’m finally doing a review is because this past week we were up in the area and went in. One of my son’s asked for honey mustard sauce to go with his chicken. The girl told us they don’t have that sauce, no biggee, we weren’t at a drive thru somewhere that has multiple sauces. Fast forward 5 minutes and the same girl comes out with honey mustard sauce! She quickly went on google saw a quick recipe and since she knew they had the ingredients, she went ahead and made a quick small batch for my kiddo. Now that is customer service at it’s best!

This place doesn’t look like much from the outside, but if you are a fish taco fan you won’t be disappointed. They also serve pizza, and although I’ve never had that, it smelled good and the people that had it looked satisfied. The fish tacos are the way to go thought. Good service and good value for your money.

My family and I ordered 2 pizzas that we were very excited for. Our margarita pizza came and we quickly told our server I don’t think we got the right pizza. It was thin as paper, very dark with cheese that was baked five times too long and had old basil leaves loosely floating around in the middle. We tried a bite, but it wasn’t even edible. Our second pizza was decent but a frozen one from my freezer would have Been a Better choice. Getting our money back was great, that’s after the rude server and an employee that told me I must wait in line with the pizza my family won’t be eating. I can handle a poor meal, but rude staff is more than I can take. We will stick to round table ;)

Came in here on President’s Day. It was busy, but we found a table for 8, and one of the staff helped us put chairs together, while one of us ordered at the counter. We were then ceremoniously thrown off the table by another staff member who told us we had to order first. When we protested and said one of your staff helped us get the table ready, he just said«She’s new, doesn’t know the rules». Well we’re new too, and it’s not our problem your staff don’t know the rules. So my advice avoid if you’re an out of town family they don’t know

We came here one night while staying in arnold, just about 12 miles out. It’s a little hard to spot from the street, they have a tiny sign. We get in, like the décor, axe handles for the staircase railing, pretty cool looking. It was lively,(almost everything else on main st was closed, you know holidays and small towns). You order at the counter and they give you a number. Find any open spot to sit. The food was really good! Chicken strips weee moist and tasty, the woodfire pizzas had a great taste. Crusts a little chewy. Bathrooms were clean. Overall we were very happy!

If you stop here the thing to eat is pizza… The fish tacos are pretty good. The nachos are not great boiled meat and hard melted cheese… Very dry.

Great thin crust pizzas, good tacos, fast service and an interesting welcoming décor. We had 2 pizzas, 4 tacos, 1 kids meal and 2 glasses of house wine. The bill was less than $ 50. We will go back the next time we are in Murphy.

Pizza, burgers, and nachos — am I in comfort food heaven? YASSSSS! I ordered a woodfire mushroom pizza and added ground pepperoni. The pizza was wonderful — very Meditteranean, perfect amount of oil, and was THEPERFECT end to a day of wine tasting. And yes, I had second dinner later that evening with the leftover pizza I took home — woot! My wife ordered a swiss/bacon burger. Tried a few bites and would say it was perfectly homemade and hit he spot. She said that the fries were best hot and lost some flavor as they got colder. You order up front and then find a seat, so it’s very much self service beyond the order. Dinner ranged from $ 10-$ 20 and the atmosphere was super casual and very family friendly — upstairs and downstairs seating. Would definitely come back or take out.

This is The Best restaurant in town, next to Grounds. You cannot go wrong here. Fantastic fish tacos, burgers and pizza. Even tasty treats for the Gluten free crowd. You will love their food and want to return.

Out here for work. Customer recommended this place. Their fish tacos(battered) were the best I’ve had in a long time! Wish I could have had a beer from their selection of tap beer! Next time. Old fire station, super cool and friendly staff.

My parents have lived in the area many years and this is one of their favorite places. It’s not fancy, has a good variety, is clean, has friendly staff. My sister and I ordered the burrito bowls and they were delicious. We really enjoyed the variety of freshly made salsas available at the condiment area. Will definitely return!

Great for a quick lunch as a wood fired pizza does not take long to bake. We decided to split a Mushroom pizza($ 12). The pizza could have used more mushrooms as after all this was in the title. As town and the restaurant was busy pizza was a good choice. Some parm cheese and red pepper flakes would have been appreciated in the condiment area. After i finished my soda I noticed my glass had several lipstick marks on the rim(I was using a straw) and I didn’t wear lipstick. The pizza was good tasting and the price was right. Would we come back… maybe…there are other interesting places to try in town so not soon.

This is my first time at Firewood though I have walked by this place numerous times before. You order your food at the counter and they bring it to you. There’s plenty of seating(two floors) but it can get busy during weekends. I ordered the fish tacos(Cod) which I liked. I added some lime and salsa which to me, made it much better(Chipotle and lime type salsa neither of which were spicy). They have other items on their menu like pizza, burrito, burgers, and chicken strips which I will try next time we’re in town. I definitely recommend this place if you’re in town.

Went to this place a few days ago and I wasn’t too impressed. I ordered a burger, which wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t anything special. It was cooked well done, which kind of ruined it for me. My friend got the chicken tacos, and she said they weren’t that great either. Overall this place is average, but it is one of the only reasonably priced places in Murphy’s. PROS –Friendly staff –Reasonably priced CONS –Food is nothing great, average at best –They don’t give you an option of how you want your budget cooked, they are all cooked medium well/well done –You have to bus your own table, which isn’t usually expected at a place like this

Standing on a corner spinning around trying to decide on a direction to head for food and a stranger steps in to make recommendations. This is the first place she names and as she lists off the selections on the menu, in unison, the 6 of us say yes! Point us in the direction of good food and libations. We were being tourists for the day after a day in Arnold fishing and checking out swimming holes so this place was a perfect fit for us. The fish tacos are spot on. Beware, the fish is fried which is not my first choice but the batter was light and delicious. The soft taco shells are stuffed full of «yum» fish and shredded cabbage. My group also ordered a couple of burgers that were just divine. The food wasn’t overly«fancified», it was good with good portions and quality service. If pizza is your thing then go for it! Fresh made pizza right in front of your eyes in the corner of the dining area. It looked great but we weren’t in the mood. The downside(of Murphy) is parking. We were there during the week and even then parking was tough to find. If I could give a 4.5 I would. For what it is… not too fancy, it does the trick. The prices are right, the good is good and it’s just enough to fill your tank. Check out the Axe door handles as you enter the building! Nice touch!

No joke — right as I was entering Firewood, I saw one of the guys just up and quit. That was pretty wild, but thankfully the food was pretty good. It took a while for us to get our two pies(natch), but they had that wood fired texture that tastes so good. The crust was much thicker than Italian pies, but it wasn’t greasy and the price was right.

I had pretty high hopes for Firewood as the woman at Big Trees said that this was in the top of places to eat in Murphy and from the outside, it seems like its pretty legit. Though walking in and concentrating a bit on the restaurant, quickly, I started to see more and more that the reviews that I read of people who weren’t impressed were beginning to feel spot on. I had friendly staff working when I came so that wasn’t a problem, and I like the system of ordering at the counter and then waiting for the food to come out. Prices are fair. However, when I went to the counter to grab utensils and napkins, the napkins are what we use as paper towels in the bathroom at work. Weird. Then it seems like they couldn’t make up their mind on utensils. Some were metal, and then they had mis-matched(color and style) forks, knives, spoons.(Even mismatched within the individual utensils.) The soda fountain looked like it had gone through at least one war, and the water that came out tasted like a$$. We sat upstairs which also had an assortment of different tables and chairs. We got the food which were in generous portions. I ordered the chicken burrito which consisted mostly of black beans and about 3 pieces of chicken even though it was the size of a Chipotle burrito so that tells you how many black beans I got. I wasn’t going to complain, good source of fiber. Then, the last 3 bites were all the other toppings. Oh well. Maybe burritos aren’t their strong point. Neither are pizzas. I had half a slice of my daughter’s pizza and it was pretty mediocre. Nobody raved about their food or even talked about how good it was and there were 11 of us. Next time I’m in Murphy, I’ll be trying a different restaurant.

Okay This place came recommended to us by our timeshare located in the town of Murphys, near Angels Camp. This place served a little bit of everything from burgers and fries to wood-fired pizzas to tacos, quesadillas and burritos. Just the pizza alone you have ten kinds to choose from and on the burger and fries section there are seven kinds to whet your appetite. I ordered the bacon, mushroom, and Swiss burger w/fries. Also included on their menu are salads and fish & chips… talk about a variety but I can only speak for my bacon/mushroom, & Swiss burger! I can only eat so much in one visit. Not sure if they were still growing the mushrooms or catching the pig for my Bacon/Mushroom & Swiss burger but it took a long time to be served. When we finally got our food it was tasty and delicious. It was good and filling! Wondered why it took so long since the place did not look super busy at the time. Anyway, since the Murphys area is currently home to over two dozen family-owned and operated wineries, Firewood also serves wine by the glass– chardonnay, sauv blanc, zin, cab, merlot, and chianti! Firewood is located on Main Street in Murphys. I’m not sure if there is another entrance to this establishment but we came in through the rolled up(or slides to the sides) window/door. It looks like an old firehouse and is deep. To place an order one has to go to the counter at the very back. They give you a huge plastic number sign to bring to your table and your food is served to you. It has a casual environment with TV’s. The place seemed dark inside, though, not much windows except for that wide entrance. It was a beautiful day out that weekend which was why, I assume, it was kept open. The following week, though, we had heavy rains in Northern CA and I’m sure it was shut. Restrooms are also towards the back. The place is kept clean… I mean, someone is literally sweeping the floors and emptying tables constantly. The staff was friendly.

6÷29÷14 Early Dinner 3.5* Our first meal in Gold Country sent us to Firewood because we arrived during an awkward hour for dinner: 4:30PM. Grounds next door, a full-service restaurant, was not open for another hour . Firewood has open seating. A little bit of outdoor seating on the sidewalk. they have a mezzanine as well. You order at the register and they will give you a number. Food will be brought to your table. Condiments are self-serve. Pizzas usually take 10 – 15 minutes as they are baked to order. *Margherita Pizza($ 11) is good with plenty of basil and cheese. Crust is not thin and served piper hot fresh out of the stone oven. Looks like you can’t go wrong getting pizza here. *Fish Taco Meal($ 5.95) is not only tasty but a great deal! In San Francisco I would have to pay at least double for this. Two fish tacos with fried cod and salsa, along with delicious tangy crema and lots of cilantro. Served with rice and black beans. It’s a good place to stop by and have a quick meal after walking around the chic and charming town of Murphys. This place gets busy so make sure you have someone in your party to grab a table first before ordering.
