Cotija’s Taco Shop

This place has potential to be good because the quality of the food, however it fails due to the over-​use of fillers! Fillers are beans, rice, pico de gallo, lettuce. Anything that fills up space but has little flavor.
Case-​in-​point, I have never been to a Mexican restaurant that uses rice in their quesadilla instead of cheese. The shrimp quesadilla was 75% rice, 15% cheese, and 10% shrimp. It was filled with so much rice that they actually folded the «quesadilla» like a burrito instead of the traditional flat shape. Horrible.
Two stars only for the extremely friendly cashier at the drive thru. Usually Mexican restaurants have the worst drive-​thru customer service and this place was an exception. Unfortunately it’s not enough for us to come back.

I asked for a pollo asado quesadilla it had beans which I am allergic to it guacamole which I love but not on a quesadilla letter my favorite but not hot or on s quesadilla sour cream but where the heck is the cheese

Love their shrimp cocktail. Full of shrimp and veggies. Also taco Tuesday and Wednesday are the biggest, most delicious tacos with the best prices.

Shortly after this place opened (RIP Boardz Grill) I stopped through the drive-​thru here and ordered some Taquitos. When I got to the window I told them I wanted to change my order to a slightly smaller size of taquitos (I believe it was 2 to 4 less taquitos total, which was just below my order in sizes they offered). The lady in the drive-​thru then told me I can’t change my order? Huh? Can’t change my order? She was saying this as I’m holding my debit card in my hand, before I even paid. At this point I could literally just drive away and screw them over for the entire order of taquitos. However, I’m not a dick. So even though she spouted off an absolutely retarded comment to me, I decided to still pay and not just drive away. Oh, she changed the order too, which makes her comment even more meaningless.
As for the taquitos, they sucked. There was practically zero guacamole on them. Just horrible. Why the heck did I come here instead of going to Los Jilbertos, which is FAR superior to this place?
Honestly, I wish I would have just driven away without paying and going straight to Los Jilbertos instead, which LOADS up your taquitos with guac and cheese. I have never been back to this place since, and never will.

Coming from working in drive thru and customer service for years I was very unimpressed with the wait time for tacos and the order taker had a lot of trouble in putting in the order. The food is delicious but waiting in a drive thru for 15 mins and being the only customer !!! A bit ridiculous

Horrible horrible horrible customer service! Family said food was good, but I was afraid to eat because of the attitude of the cashier. It took over 5 minutes to even be greeted and we were they only ones in line. With so many amazing taco shops in the area, don’t bother trying out this one! Saturday evening till close was when we visited.

I was really looking forward to trying this place out. Sadly this was an experience beyond disappointing. Took about 20 minutes for chips to be given to our table, the salsa was horrible… When our order finally arrived, mine was completely wrong. The waitress corrected it, but the replacement order was brought to me cold. 1-​star is far too generous.

Do not go here, this place has the worst customer service ever! After waiting 30 minutes in the drive-​through line for my food I got all the way home and was missing three items from my order. I then had to go all the way back & go inside to two rude ladies who barley want to help me. I explain to them what happened and what is missing, after 5 min of waiting they hand me my food, with no mention of a credit or even a sorry!!! I leave (for a second time) and I get home to see THERE IS STILL STUFF MISSING!!! By then am so upset, I decide to call and see what they have to say about this or offer me. I get the same girl on the phone & explain my frustration. Instead of helping me she starts fighting with me, saying I never told her all that was missing from the order. She continues to say «this is not our fault» how is it not their fault? I will NEVER eat here again.

Been two times now to Cotijas. Both times I ordered the carnitas soft tacos. The second time I asked for grilled onions and it was amazing. Good horchata too

Was previously unhappy with this place last year. They have redeemed themselves! If you were disappointed, it’s time to give them another chance.

I love these burritos!!! It’s my place to get a surf and turf, great for in between classes lunch.
I just got one and the cashiers at work the drive through are always nice, I need to dine in one of these days.
Also I’m editing my review. I see a lot of people saying bad stuff about the drive-​through taking long. But as someone who works in the food industry, when you make food fresh it takes longer. So having to wait for fresh food is not a problem.

Oh Cotijas… The bittersweet feelings that come into mind when I think about this place.
The Chicken Chipotle burrito is unlike any burrito I have ever had in my life. Their chipotle sauce is so yummy. The chicken and cheesy beans are always made to perfection, the Hot Sauce salsa is sooooo amazing. All I want in life is that burrito…
I think part of the experience that makes it so special is my home girl Stephanie/​Fanny E. She hooks it up with the chips and salsa Togo and always get my order correct. I appreciate the fact she recognizes me and is always so nice when I come through.
The thing is that I only like to be helped by her. When ever I have made a trip down to Cotijas and gave my order to another employee, it always comes out wrong. I love my burrito so much, I will go back, return what they gave me and get the correct one. I can’t understand how it happens so much. It’s one of their primary best sellers so how does the cook/​cashier let that slip so often?
Although this has happened about 5x, I will always go back. I’ve been to a couple different states, and the Mexican food will never compare to Southern California’s Mexi cuisine.
Get the burrito, get the hot sauce salsa with some
Chips. It may take a while but that is because it is cooked with love. You will not be disappointed.
Just make sure to double check your Oder before leaving :)

Clean! Amazing customer service. Ordered the fish burrito and fish taco (a lot of food I know) with a large horchata. They threw in a FREE bag of chips for the wait.
The fish taco was SUPER for only $ 2! And the burrito was very large also.
I went in along just to get my head clear from work on a Friday, the cook was signing to a song on the radio in Spanish, just a fun clean atmosphere!
Will be back!

Tacos are my favorite thing here I had the battered shrimp taco and it was delicious especially with Habanaro salsa, my 2^nd favorite was the Shrimp Diabla Quesadilla which was very filling, the shrimp enchiladas were alright but not as good as the other two items. Prices are fair at around $ 6 – 12 depending on your order. I recommend and will return at some point!

Did not have my order of fish ceviche after purchase and recommended shrimp, when it arrived the serving was half per tostada and it was not worth what I spent.

We just moved in the Temecula /​Murrieta /​Menifee area and been to a few quick Mexican food places but this one, so far was the BEST! The service is really friendly and helpful to us. We don’t speak Spanish so we had a couple of laughs on pronouncing items. They were good sports about it.
We ate inside and they had a little bar with fresh guacamole and sauces. My Husband was craving ceviche so he had ceviche, shrimp cocktail & 2 fish tacos! He enjoyed and had no complaints. I on the other hand don’t eat anything from the Sea so I stuck with my famous roll taco combo plate! Rice was yummy the beans were good, I only wish they smash them better!
The reason for 4 STARS and not 5 is because dining in the tables were messy by guest. The lady was cleaning up but people dining in were slobs! I go to many places and never leave my table disgusting because quite frankly it’s rude to be pigs…

I normally don’t go out for breakfast… but my work placed an order for carne asada breakfast burritos the other day and all I can say is WOW!
We walked in 20 minutes after placing the phone order and it was all packed up for us in a bag, salsa included. We paid and right before we started to leave, the cashier asked us if we also wanted some chips, which we accepted of course!
The burrito itself I thought was really great… and the red salsa they have is killer, too. I’m definitely gonna have to bring my wife here for a second trip.

Got the taco and enchilada plate. Asked for soft taco, got the hard shell instead. The beans where almost liquid (watered down) and tasted like they were burnt. Like how you burn the bottom of your pot and the rest of food smells and tastes like it. The worst part was that my food was completely cold and the cheese in my cheese enchiladas were not even melted. I have attached a pic of them.
The only positive part was when I told the manager so she can pull the beans and she told her employees right away. She asked if she could replace my meal. Unfortunately I was with a client and we had to leave, hungry and unsatisfied.
