We ate here twice while on vacation. It was recommended by the cabby that drove us in for the airport. The lunch was really good with a well valued menu. The dinner was very well prepared and tasted really good. The price positively go up as you would suspect for the dinner crowd. When we do go back I think we will just come for lunch.

we were there by 4:30, just after they opened and to my surprise the place was already full and we had to wait for 10 minutes, we were seated by the window overlooking the beach, The service was perfect, they brought us the hush puppies and butter. the hush puppies was the best item in the whole dinner. we ordered she crap soup and shrimp and grits. the she crap soup was amazing, the shrimp and grits we didn’t like. for main course we got jambalaya and shrimp scampi. both were big portions. and delicious, the scallops in the jambalaya was to die for.

I didn’t have sleeves so we were turned away. I could have bought a shirt from them for $ 10. But we decided to pass. We are on vacation at the beach. get a grip Sea Captains House! You lost a sale and I hope more sales from this review.

We had dinner here last night. Shrimp and grits were good. First time having that combination. Others had jambalaya, grilled swordfish, and shrimp basket. Had to try the Hummingbird cake for dessert. Overall, good food.

If you’re a fan of over cooked previously frozen crab legs, bland side dishes, fish that’s not fresh considering how close you are to the ocean, this might be your spot ! The servers are upbeat and tolerate a lot at this buffet so they shookdn get four stars for just working there. I’m from Texas which is landlocked but we have better seafood buffets there even! Callabash– no!

This is probably my favorite restaurant in Myrtle Beach. The food and service is consistently excellent. So good we ate there twice during our recent week in Myrtle Beach

This is a wonderful restaurant with great atmosphere. I have visited once a year during vacation & have had at least 3 excellent meals. I wish they had a bigger seafood menu, crab legs would be a great addition to their menu along with better children’s menu selection.

Sadly the she crab soup was not the same soup I have had in years past. It was lumpy with roux like another diner has reviewed. All of the lunch portions have gotten smaller and the prices are way too much for what you get. I was sadly disappointed in my visit. the stars are for their ever attentive staff and the view

My wife and I stopped for lunch at the recommendation of her grandmother having fond memories of the restaurant as having great food and a view that was captavating. We were not disappointed. From the outside it appears small as it was a Home at one point. Once inside its a beautiful old sea captains home that was transformed into a restaurant. But it was expanded in the rear that can not be seen from the street right away. We sat in the lower enclosed room /porch area with grand views of the beach and waves coming in. The waiter was prompt and polite. My wife had the shrimp salad sandwich on a croissant with she crab soup. I tasted the soup and it was delicious. I had the captains club with sweet potato fries and a cup of clam chowder. Delicious as well. I’d recommend this restaurant for a nice quiet or romantic meal if you don’t want all the loud music and noise associated with the beach crowd. Very classy. Definitely will return and recommend.

I arrived with the best of expectations, and was disappointed by the food – not the staff; everyone who helped me was really wonderful. The outdoor area is a nice place to sip on a drink and watch the ocean. The hush puppies, as most people have mentioned, were quite nice and not too big. The She Crab soup? A lumpy(there were still balls of roux in my soup), gloppy mess that tasted like it came out of a can and was only tepid temperature-wise. OK, whatever, it was just a cup of soup. Ordered the shrimp scampi and could barely eat it. Who puts a ton of DRIEDOREGANO in a shrimp scampi? Teeny, microscopic pieces of asparagus were a nice touch, but should have been much bigger. I might try it if I’m back in Myrtle Beach because it’s kind of a throwback place, design-wise and others have rated the food much better than my experience. And there is a dearth of good places to eat down there!

If you’re in Myrtle, you have to try this place. After a great day on the beach, this place is the perfect capstone for the day. Thought not sea captain’s house, it is a house AND lives up to the hope as far as the best view of the ocean. There is no bad seat or table. The wife had the fried shrimp. Granted, a basic on the coast but she said it was very good. I know it looked good. Daughter had the filet mignon. How can that be bad — ever. I had the pecan crusted grouper — chef’s special. It was special In good way. Lightly baked to a crispy crust. You’ll love it. Ask for Marie. She a great server!

Spent less than our estimated wait time @ the bar. Bartender was efficient & friendly. Staff was friendly & prompt. We had a perfect table at the window to enjoy the surf. Presentation of the food is great. House salad was disappointing, as they use every bit of the lettuce leaf(including the end that I normally toss to the wild rabbits in our backyard. Given entrée prices, I expected to see some arugula//spinach/cucumber/endive/onion/bell pepper. What you get is green lettuce, 2 grape tomatoes & a thin slice of mushroom. Hush puppies are brought out early…& replenished frequently, they are superb. Ordered the«Southern Salmon Cordon Blue(sic) Roasted Salmon Filled with Spinach & Country Ham with Smoked Gouda, Pimento Cheese Sauce Over Stobe Ground Grits.» The«stobe» ground grits were good, couldn’t discern pimento in the sauce. Salmon was bland, country ham seemed to be devoid of a distinctive flavor, spinach was good, Gouda wasn’t discernible. Did it fulfill my expectations-NO Was it filling-YES. Was it a feast for the palate-NO Wife ordered the fried shrimp platter & enjoyed every bite. Perhaps my expectations were too lofty.

While visiting Myrtle Beach I asked the front desk clerk to recommend an upscale restaurant, and she recommended the Captain’s House. We arrived at 4:20 and was seated at 4:40. The greeter tried seating us at a table away from the window, but I insisted on a window seat. She excused herself and upon returning she attempted to seat us at the worst table in the back next to the server bar. When I requested the table in the middle she said it was reserved. Which I found out later from our the waiter that was not true. I could not help but notice we were the only African American couple there. And now I know why. It’s 2016 people.

Very well done meal. Loved that the food came out piping hot. Michelle was really nice. I liked the fact that I could get a seafood platter mixed broiled and fried. The grouper my partner had was done well. The she crab soup was very good. I would go back for that. I had the New England clam chowder which wasn’t as good. We did not have room for desert. See my posted photos of the meal.

Anniversary dinner in Myrtle beach. Quick gateway trip. Looked for restaurants with high ratings and good reviews(as I always do). Ate at a couple other places here in the area and of the 3 we ate at this far(Pier House and Liberty brew and grill) this was the best food and experience hands down! I give it a 5 to help elevate ratings for folks looking for a solid food recommendation when in the area. It’s been around since the 1960s, wait staff is great, overlooking the ocean and delicious sounding food options. Mostly seafood. We got the chef’s special crab and avocado, scallops appetizer, pecan crusted grouper, sautéed mushrooms and the stoneground grits… All of them tasted super delicious. Solid flavors, good seasonings, no complaints. The best though was the she crab soup!!! We topped off the sinfulness with the chocolate bourbon pecan pie. That was THE best desert I have had in a while. Reminded me of bourbon balls I make over Christmas… This place came recommended by a few locals and thus we decided to take a chance(although Unilocal ratings were sub 4). Definitely a good chance! I would highly recommend if you are in the area to check it out.

While their service tends to be a bit sloppy, yet always cordial, one mere spoonful of their she crab soup and all is forgiven… even when said spoon is having to be shared with my mom since our waitress never brought the other spoon we asked for, no biggie. It was the perfect consistency, not too thick or thin like a lot of other places. And that drizzle of sherry on the top… stir it in and enjoy… Mmmm. And while they may not be on top of keeping your water filled but they will go out of their way to accommodate special requests. Like when I asked to add fried oysters on to a ceasar salad. But seriously, how wasn’t that already an option?! I mean they had beef tips as an add-on option but not oysters. Anyways… she didn’t hesitate in at least attempting to make it happen, and she DID! There it was, and it was LOADED with delicious lightly fried plump tasty oysters. The salad was a tad overdressed, and the cucumbers curiously tasted like honeydew(bad thing?!) but easily overlooked when all eaten with these spectacular oysters. She said my order inspired her and that she was going to have to give the same combo a taste when she ordered her lunch after her shift. The shrimp salad is also good, and my mom loves the crab cakes but this oyster caesar/she crab soup order was by far my best idea at Sea Captain’s house up to this point. I just hope they let me order it again next time!

Went for lunch on a Monday while husband and I were passing through Myrtle beach and was very impressed. From the moment we walked through the door to check in the staff was on point. We were seating right away. Toni, our waitress, was excellent. I ordered the Avocado Sea Fare salad and requested spinach instead of lettuce and New England Clam Chowder both were delicious. Husband ordered Flounder Sandwich. Several pieces of fish and good helping of fries. The icing on the experience was the view of the ocean. It was wonderful even though the weather was chilly and we were inside.

Wonderful place to eat, great views of the ocean, friendly attentive staff and delicious food. Go for their breakfast buffet with omlet station. Only $ 10 per person and you get an abundance of choices. You will leave fully satisfied. ps: don’t know why the main page shows the hours for the afternoon only, breakfast buffet is offered everyday till 10:30, then they close to prepare for lunch crowd.
