Still a terrific burger! The fries could be better, though.

My second time at dune burger and we were pleased. A nice juicy burger and french fries is always nice after a long morning at the beach. I had the cheeseburger with lettuce tomato and onions and mustard on it. I like how the onions were chopped instead of the round circle you normally get. The french fries were also extremely yummy.

If you enjoy waiting 30+ minutes for a completely inept staff to make a single cheeseburger. This is your place. Burgers could’ve tasted like gold… It didn’t matter. Nobody should be forced to wait 30 minutes for a single cheeseburger at a corner burger shack. This isn’t 5 star cuisine… It’s a fast food burger joint. If it isn’t fast… Then I won’t be back. And it isn’t fast. It was 7:30 on a random Thursday… Not a Friday or Saturday busy time… 7:30 on a THURSDAY and my single cheeseburger order was«completed» 32 minutes after I ordered. Unacceptable.

Dune Burger is across the street from Jennette’s Pier, so it’s easily walking distance if you’re spending the day on the pier or beach. We got two dune burgers w/cheese, two orders of fries, and two drinks which totaled up to $ 17.51. I felt like that was a little steep, but I did enjoy the food. While the food is good, the service was not. I was under the impression that they opened at 10am because of hours I found posted online. When I walked up to the window a couple minutes after 10, the lady behind the glass told me they would be opening at 11. Still not sure what their actual business hours are. We head back to the beach still hungry and wait another hour. My girlfriend went back to get the food while I stayed on the beach. She walked up to the«Pick-up Window» by mistake, so they hit the window and motioned for her to go down to the«Order Here» window and was greeted with«What do you want?» The only other words spoken to here were«$ 17.51.» She said she felt like she was bothering them.

In the immortal words of Jules, «Mmhmmm! This IS a tasty burger!» And you know what? It really was! If you want a good, old fashioned, American cheeseburger then Dune Burger is for you. If you want some other food, and I can’t imagine why you would, especially in a place like Outer Banks during the summer, then go elsewhere and bitch about the 17 $ fish tacos. Dune Burger is the truth!

Holy crap! That’s a damn good greasy cheese burger! If you love an old fashioned drive in burger, this is it.

Not sure why this place garners so much hate. Seems to be more re hours or place than the food. It’s always been one of my OBX go to’s. Got a burger and a Carolina BBQ sandwich this time. Both were great. Fries are seasoned with salt and pepper and tasted amazing. Regardless of what people think about their hours or attitudes, the food is great.

Took a break from fishing on the pier and stopped by this place on a whim. The reviews are pretty sad but we decided to give it a chance anyway. The best thing about this place: the fried chicken burger was awesome. I was surprised. I’m definitely coming here again next time I go to the pier. The worst thing about this place: it felt like it took foreverrrrrr to order and get our food. In reality it was probably only like 20 minutes. But when you’re hungry, that feels like forever! Staff was friendly. Outdoor seating was available. Easy parking. It might be the closest food option to the pier, felt like it. Try the chicken sandwich!

I tried to get ice cream for my kids here today. When I pulled up the sign said«open». I got the kids out of their car seats, went up to order at the window and they told me they were closed. I asked what time they closed, and the blond lady said they closed at 4. I tell her its 3:50…she says«well sorry but we’re closed». You really disappointed my toddler, and wasted my time. Will not go back due to rudeness.

Very very greasy burgers. Shakes and fries are good. I like how the fries come with salt and pepper on them. Decently fast and nice service but they didn’t get either of our burger orders correct and that’s frustrating. FWIW, Burger King and Wendy’s are much better!

I was expecting worse based on reviews, but honestly, the milk shake was thick and on point. The fries were hot, crispy, and well seasoned. The burger came loaded with fresh veggies and the burger itself was a hot, cheesy, gooey mess of yumminess. Far better than any fast food, but this joint wont be featured on any shows, it’s a classic burger joint. Who cares what it looks like? It’s not a «dine in» place. Take your food and go. Lol. It’s that simple. Their sanitation rating as of 6⁄13 was 97% so I’m not sure why someone said it was a «b.» I’m kind of a food snob and enjoy fine cuisine, but I also have common sense and know that a walk up burger shack isn’t going to have Kobe beef burger with quinoa and mango salsa. I got what I expected and slightly more. I’d come back again.

Used to be better. Really greasy. The burgers they use are questionable. However, it is a staple of Nags Head, so at least try it.

Ehhh, it’s one of those«do we really have to eat here every year?» places. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not terrible. It’s a simple burger and fries that’s a tad over priced. Nice for a quick bite and the kids still love the place… so what are ya going to do?

Great place for a quick bite to eat. We got a dune burger and bbq burger and fries. The burger tastes like a regular burger you can find at a food shack which is exactly what I wanted. The BBQ burger is pulled pork with coleslaw. My friend really liked it. It is different since we are used to having BBQ sauce on the pork but the coleslaw made it work. The fries were fantastic! It had salt and pepper on it. Didn’t need ketchup! The place is small with minimum amount of space for parking. It was packed but they were able to serve everyone with good amount of time.

I’m might not drive all the way here from Greensboro to get a hot dog, but throw in their cheeseburger & FFs, and I just might. This place is a simple as it gets, and the food has never disappointed — both their Cheeseburger and Chili Dog are in my top 5, and have been for well over 25 years. They are just open on weekends in the off season now, but little else has changed. We’ll be back.

Not sure why the reviews are so low for Dune Burger. If you want good beach food at reasonable prices, this is the place to go. Their Pork BBQ Sandwich is excellent(get it with slaw and hot sauce) and the quality of their pulled pork is 3 times as good as some sit down restaurants in the Outer Banks!

Dune Burger just isn’t what it used to be… We use to come here all the time during my childhood after the beach for the awesome burgers, shakes, and cheese fries. It used to be homemade and delicious, now its just processed crap. The sanitation is awful. Please spend the $ 20k to update and make it the Dune Burger of old again.

We kind of dedicated our September 2011OBX trip to places like this or barbecue for lunch and to more seafood and higher end for dinner. We started at Dune Burger for chili dogs and burgers. Dune Burger is a classic beach drive-in, walk-up. Both the chili dog and the hamburgers were good solid items that I would have again. I think we decided we liked the burgers a little better. The chili appeared to be house made with a lot of meat, good flavor and a little heat. The dog itself was fairly ordinary and a better one would enhance the overall chili dog. I always get slaw on them when I can. The style of slaw here was not my favorite. It was very coarse and does not work well on the sandwiches. I would probably drop the slaw next time. The burger was also very good(actually better) with the same toppings. The regular burger is very large so be aware that there is a smaller size for smaller appetites. It is a fun, authentic place for drive-in food.
