I stayed at Silverado a while back. it’s crazy how far the property goes back and how it expanded. Unlike the grill down the way, Royal Oak is the country club styled opulence of your. Super dark, overlooking the golf course, and old school eats abound. Steak and salmon is always a good solid choice(surf and turf!). I also felt like a zygote here clearly being amongst the youngest. So go in like youre going to take a trip back through time

Dear Royal Oak, I’ve had the privilege of dining in your splendor many times. You were a time honored Christmas tradition in my family. My siblings and our spouses have dined their with our parents on many occasions and you have delivered — until this last time. Please tell me how in the world do you run out of a dish like the sweet lobster parpadelle when you know you have a party of 15 coming in for dinner at 7:30PM? We had a reservation. It’s not like we walked in off the street! How do you let the chef come into the private room we reserved and talk about this amazing dish, selling it so well that five people at the table wanted to order it? Who was the person who planned so badly that none of us could get it? Apparently you had an abundance of steaks to unload because most of wound up with them, whether we wanted them or not! What’s so perplexing about the whole situation is that it all started out so well. Having the executive chef come into to greet us was pretty cool. The surroundings were pretty cool. But then right after ordering the entrees things fell apart. The food was just meh. It was not what I had come to know of you. My husband’s steak was too rare, mine was dry. The crab cake bites were greasy. The cold beef salad lacked in flavor. The truffle mac and cheese was drowning in oil. What in the heck was going on here? I found out you are closing for renovations in a few days and suddenly it all made sense. You were already mentally closed. The restaurant felt kind of like it was on auto pilot not the grand establishment I’ve come to know. Tsk, tsk, Royal Oak! Shame on you, you are not a cheap date and therefore you should not treat those who come through your doors that way, particularly not the child, grandchildren and great grandchildren of someone who has been a Silverado Country Club member since the 1960’s!

Another review mentioned that this restaurant has an «good ol’ boy golf club feel» or something like that; the Silverado is a resort location with a golf course, so I can see how that might carry into the restaurant. Please don’t let that turn you away! The Royal Oak has exceptionally good food!!! My husband and I were seated at a table for two right by the window, overlooking the golf course. It was beautiful scenery. After perusing the wine list, I asked the waiter about a wine I had sampled at Silverado just a couple weeks earlier that wasn’t on the list — Rombauer Zinfandel. He actually sent someone out to get us a bottle. Now THAT’S service! My filet mignon was cooked perfectly; even the spinach and pureed potatoes were delectable. My husband couldn’t even finish his steak — but he was sure to take it to our room for a late-night snack! My husband is a professional chef and he can attest to the quality and perfect execution of our meal. And dessert? FUGGEDABOUTIT!!! Chocolate lava cake with the Silverado’s AH-MAZING salted caramel sauce. Truly decadent and the perfect topper to an exceptional meal.

Old school country club feel, like going to dinner with gramps and nana. Menu is old-school, too. Pricey, but doesn’t deliver the quality or finesse that you’d expect for $ 250 for two. A trip back to 1982.

We went for our anniversary dinner last night. The expectations were not really that high but they blew us away. The tenderloin tartare was awesome, and the filet mignon was cooked to perfection and the sides, spinach and potato puréed made a perfect match. This is highly recommended.

Went April 30th and was disappointed. They no longer have the Caesar salad made table side as before. In fact, the salad was a few lettuce leaves, some cheese and what tasted like a bottle dressing. The steaks had all been reheated and were dry. The chicken was charred. The service was mediocre at best. The prices were excessive. The facility is dated. It looks like new management is trying to cut costs. That’s what our waiter told us. Will not be going there again.

This goes with my review of the«country club». We had a nice dinner here but all this food is basic stuff you could make at home and probably do better for a fraction of the price. A side soapbox — can we get off the USDA rating — it’s meaningless in areas where you can get better meat from local farmers and better prices, especially in Napa. This place is designed for people over 60(sorry again for the stereo type) that just want bland food like they have been eating for the past 60 years. What really made this a waste of time was an awful wine list in the heart of Napa. Skip it don’t waster you money and in fact just drive 4 miles to my other review of La Toque and pay the same amout for a meal 100 times better.

So sorry to rain on the Royal Oak parade, but I cannot give it anything higher than a 2 star. We didn’t expect much, after looking at the website and the menu, and with it being part of the country club, but my friends insisted that we dine here since we were staying here as well. We made our reservations with the hotel concierge with a request for a window table — which we did not get even though there was a couple sitting at a four top at the window and an empty window two top — ok bummer. Our waiter, Jimmy, had no charm, in fact, he seemed perturbed that we inquired about the specials prior to his schpeel. We ordered both our dinner and wine. When he brought the wine, it was room temperature — this was white wine. He did bring an ice bucket, but the wine needed time to chill. We sat there waiting with empty glasses without any explanation. Finally we asked him and he said that they had run out of this particular chilled wine. It would have been nice if he had told us and let us choose another wine. I was the only one that ordered two courses(a soup and an appetizer). Jimmy did not ask how he should serve this. He brought out my soup solo so everyone could watch me eat. The French onion soup looked delicious as it was cheesy and bubbly, but the way the bowl was shaped, it was all cheese croûton and not much broth/soup. At the time, I thought about asking Jimmy to go ahead and fire the entrée order, but thought that since it wasn’t too crowded and he was a professional, he would know what to do. I was wrong. We waited over an hour to get our entrees. When we looked around for Jimmy, he came over to reassure us that we were next. Timing was a little late, Jimmy. Yes the steak was delicious, mostly because of the sauce — a little under seasoned for filet, but the potatoes were ordinary as well as the vegetables. For the price, I would go somewhere else. I had the crab cake over edamame succotash — of course this was delicious as it had a nice butter sauce. The busboy was very nice, attentive and filling our water glasses, clearing the table. My friend asked for a box for the rest of her steak. As we were waiting for the bill, she asked about her steak — it had been tossed. Jimmy did offer to give her a whole new order, but then neglected to check on it or let her know how long it would be(we were fearful that it would be another hour). So, it is nice to be at the country club, they really were not pretentious but do be sure that you don’t get Jimmy. Service was Awful and the food overall was not worth the price.

We went during Christmas time, and got seats by the window where we could see the little lighted reindeers«eating» the grass. Very lovely. The décor was classy, what you expect of a classic restaurant. Semi-open kitchen where you could see the cooks’ heads and shoulds but not what they were doing. Please, if you’re in Napa and want some delicious steak with no wait, come here! Service: very nice! The waterboy(not sure what you call him) was friendly and served us the non sparkling(tap) water very happily. The waitress was very knowledgable and nice. Very patient. They were also pretty empty too but it looked like they had staff ready to handle a full load too though. We must have tried like 6 different wines at least. We went with the Hall Cab. Appetizer: Carpaccio I think. It was very delicious, light, but delicious. Salad: Caesars Salad — wow the Unilocaler was correct! This was really really the best Caesar salad I’ve ever had. Best! I think the secret is hte olive oil. and lots of it! And something with mashing it all together in a wooden bowl next to the table. Sweet. Entrée: Steak! They had some heavy berry sauces but it went well with the steak. I usually just like it with spices but the steak was tender and tasty! I had the new york and my gf had the filet. More flavor, more tenderness… I got both! I’d say the fillet was better though. Dessert: Oh. I’m getting old… can’t remember the name of the dessert. It was lots of chocolaty goodness with icecream. Loved it! we had a good ol’ walk back to the room all buzzed. Good thing it wasn’t too far as it was freezing!

I stayed at the Silverado Resort and decided to try out Royal Oak. I was really really surprised — I was pretty skeptical of the place given that it was attached to the resort /country club and figured it wouldn’t be much better than standard hotel fare. The menu features a tableside Caesar salad as one of their specialities. I haven’t had a really remarkable salad in a long time so I thought I would give it a try. I can honestly say it’s the best Caesar salad and one of the best salads overall that I’ve had in a really long time. It was quite tasty. I also had the steak, which was an excellent medium and very very tasty. All in all, everything I had was fantastic and the overall bill for two was very reasonable considering that we each had an entrée, a salad, and the crab cake appetizer(which was also really good). Low expectations or not, it was a surprisingly tasty meal.

I really, REALLY cannot express enough how amazing an experience this was. Honestly, I expected very little… Unilocalers can on Silverado, the mansion and golf course provide an über — old school country club vibe(which is totally okay, as it *is* a country club), and the view was, also. sort of golf courty. Whatever the case, it lowered the expectations enough… so that when I walked in having booked the wrong restaurant on property, I was sure I was going to get a hassle. Here is what the maitre D said… «It is for our other venue, but if you are sure you are mistaken. I will simply cancel it while we seat you.» I mean… not one moment of pretentiousness, arrogance, or stand offish behaviour like I am used to in some restaurants. We sat at our table, and the server and backwaiter seemed like a pair of ballroom dancers that not only new the routine, but danced in deference to the other, constantly reading one another and anticipating each other’s actions and needs. Sounds super lame, totally super true. Anyhoo… Food rocked. Everything was shared. I really, REALLY like their Onion Soup… it is funny, because at diner’s I always get tuna melts and their chili/soup to really see what it’s like, and have a little consistency in rating diners. At higher end joints, if they have it, «onion soup» takes the consistency prize… And their Onion Soup was by far the best I have had in a long time. Yum. The portion wasn’t overwhelming either. It was plenty big… just not stupid huge like I have seen. You like that? «STUPIDHUGE»??? You want some more of that? Huh? You like that? Let’s go… food listed! the Beef Carpaccio was… perfect. But it was still, just… Beef Carpaccio. Doesn’t get too exciting. Some homemade whole seed mustard sauce. Ahi tartare three ways, For the life of me I cannot remember which ways… but they were lovely and all quite smashing. That is a cop out, I know, but suck it. There was a salad in there. a wedge that was totally perfect, less a salad dressing that seemed sort of… hidden ranch blue cheesy? Dunno, but it *was* delicious. ALSO. A table side Caeser. Did I spell that right? They actually make… the salad… from scratch, at your table. It has got to be the best Caeser I have ever had. Not because it is fresh… but because it is fresh and REALLY good too. I hope you see how those are mutually exclusive, as they are. The Filet Mignon was cooked medium rare, and it came out perhaps a shade too light, and we still agreed it was the best piece of filet mignon ever. cooked perfectly for that piece of mignon. hahaha Trust me. It is awesome. Desert was a «Presidential» Chocolate gâteau and ice cream. Ugh. «Ugh» = full and all just totally rocked in gluttony and decadent gentle shaking of our overindulged stomachs. Wine list was pretty good. Might not be too imaginative? I might be way off and shouldn’t judge. But there are some tried and true bottles on there, and they did fine. Frog’s Leap — and for the life of me cannot remember the year. I am an idiot. (for the record. I pretty much write these things for myself. So, when another person inquires whether I enjoyed something… If I forget, I can look back and help me remember to see what I thought, if I can’t remember to know now what I liked then)…
