They changed the name to Meldgies diner. The place is small good food not going to lie. My wife had chorico omelet that was good. Pancakes were good. But the service sucked. Out of the 4 girls working only 1 would ask her customers if they wanted more coffee or if all was good. Our server never asked of our food was good. Once we got our food our check followed immediately after. Terrible service from her. I’d probably go back if they took a class on how to treat customers.

What I miss the most about«livin’ down the line»(aka: by Bonnet Shores) was brunch at Phil’s. The décor is nothing special. A bit«bleh» if you ask me. But what had me at hello, was their affordable, no-fuss homestyled cooking. It had kept me coming back for more. I would always order one of their hefty omelettes with homefries. Satisfyingly filling. The service has always been consistently friendly and helpful. A solid go-to breakfast joint.

Meldgies Diner has the best breakfast in town! This is a must for anyone visiting Narragansett on vacation to get some local flavor. Homefries cooked«Meldgie» style, hand chopped potatoes. Try the King Meldgie challenge if your feeling ambitious. 2 monster breakfast sandwiches loaded and homefries. Melts in your mouth… and you get a free T-shirt! Highly Recommended

Please note, the new name of this business is Meldgie’s Diner. My litmus test for any diner is pretty simple — decent eggs and homefries. These were red bliss potatoes, hand cut, cooked then IMHO, properly crusted up on the flat top with a lil seasoning. Whole grain toast was thicker than you’d expect and really made the dish. Friendly staff, friendly customers — saw two tables that didn’t know each other, leave as new friends. Excellent

Such a great place for breakfast! The service is really good too and their food is amazing! So happy to find a place that grills bagels!

Went to get breakfast here on July 6th, 2012 around 10:30AM. Place was very busy. Sat for a bit before our waitress could get to us, which was to be expected … So we put our order in, and about 5 minutes later the table next to us gets theirs in(they got there after us). 20 minutes later, the table next to us gets their breakfast. Everybody’s coffee is empty, and the girl who is going around refilling the cups is 15 minutes into a conversation with one table and just lets everybody wait. Haven’t seen our waitress now since we ordered. When the coffee girl was done chatting, she graced us with a refill and we inquired about our order. 5 minutes after that, we see our waitress who had a confused look on her face and told us it would be about 5 more minutes. So basically, she never gave our slip to the cook … The people next to us are done with their breakfast. At this point, some 40 minutes after we had arrived, we weren’t even hungry anymore and told her to cancel the order. We left. Sad, because I live 5 minutes away and eat there with my family and friends from time to time. Never again. The place has been going downhill over the past year or so and the service has taken a nosedive. Plenty of great breakfast places in the area, so avoid this one if you can.

Simply put, I am impressed. I went in with no expectations. Okay, if I am being honest, I went in expecting to be underwhelmed. Well, that got smacked in the tastebuds with some good old homestyle cooking, great service and very reasonable prices. I had three eggs over easy, homefries(delicious by the way), whole wheat toast, bacon and added a single ENORMOUS blueberry pancake. And yes, I ate every single bite. Our server was terrific. Pleasant, happy, really nice. Go. Be similarly impressed.

I was looking for a place for breakfast and happened to drive by. For a ridiculously reasonable price, I got 3 poached eggs, on toast, with home fries, AND an enormous blueberry pancake. Fast and efficient service. Great luck stopping by this place!

We picked up some take out at Phil’s today. I got a bacon, egg and cheese sandwich on a roll. It came with homefries– something I wasn’t expecting and usually don’t eat. Both the sandwich and homefries were excellent– fresh, tasty and a perfect serving size. My husband got a hamburger and said it was very good although the fries were a bit underdone. Check this place out for a casual stop(with kids) or for getting some take-out. No fuss, good food.

One of my favorite breakfast spots. Nothing fancy, just consistently good breakfasts and a friendly waitstaff. A favorite spot for locals all year round. My only complaint, no WiFi.

I would eat breakfast at Phil’s all the time when I was living in Mettatuxet and attending University. Sounds fancy but it is just a neighborhood of Gansett and it was only URI. Phil’s is located in the same plaza as Pelly’s and Cumby’s and right next to Brickley’s Ice Cream. The perfect time to go is in early in the morning to catch the breakfast specials on the cheap. They serve up traditional breakfast fare such as eggs, pancakes, french toast, and the normal assortment of breakfast meats. mmmmmmmm… bacon they also have a variety of paintings and photography for sale on the walls by local artists which adds a nice touch. Get there early on the weekends as the seating will fill quickly with the church crowd and hungover URI students. During the week you are sure to find local regulars who are quick to share a newspaper or tale. I went for lunch today and had a turkey club and coleslaw. It hit the spot after a morning of paddling on the Narrow River but will return for breakfast in the future.

Phil’s is a refreshing place to eat in a town that is filled with old white men wearing Bermuda shorts and loafers. I don’t think anything on this menu was more than $ 8. Their breakfast specials are amazing and the service is friendly. Best home fries I’ve ever had — no joke.
