I wanted to give this restaurant a 1 star. The only reason I bumped it up was because the service/our waitress was REALLY sweet. To start off: the salsa sucked. It was definitely store bought with large pieces of tomatoes added to it. We ordered guacamole and it was probably the worst guac I’ve ever had in my life. Too much lime and the avocado wasn’t ripe enough before they decided to make it into guac. Chipotle does a better job. Most of my family, including myself, are vegetarians. We wanted to get one of the enchiladas without the meat. They said they couldn’t do that because the enchiladas are already pre-made so they can’t take things off. That is a HUGE turnoff. So we ordered tacos and just told the waitress what we wanted in them. The tacos could have been good if the they were easier to chew and digest. Overall: not a good restaurant. I hate giving bad reviews but… I wouldn’t go back and I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant to anyone.

The only way I can describe the food is as if an Italian cook was asked to make these dishes, and had never before cooked Mexican food. The salsa is exactly as described by Jeff M. I too had carnitas, and they were completely devoid of flavor, and covered in that bizarre marinara. Nothing was really bad, but none of the food we had tasted like real Mexican food should taste. There wasn’t any of the fresh herbs, spices, or depth that good Mexican has. Sorry, but this is side project from the owner of Turtle Soup misses the mark. I sense that given the fact the we were two of maybe four people in the place on a Saturday night, this restaurant will not be long for the world.

I had high hopes for this place and was really looking forward to it. I love supporting small, local places. Came by on a Sunday late afternoon, early evening. We sat outside at the cozy tables with umbrellas. Service was average– our server was nice, but admittedly didn’t know the menu, so it made it a little difficult to order because I had some questions about the menu that she couldn’t answer. I have to agree with the guy who said the salsa tasted like marinara sauce. Not impressive stall. The food presentation was nice, but neither of us were crazy about what we got. My husband asked for extra spicy, but said it wasn’t spicy at all. Mine was very spicy, so maybe they accidentally gave me spicy by mistake? No huge deal, but something notable. Also, it’s so quiet outside. A little background music would be nice. I heard this restaurant was from the owners of Turtle Soup. Maybe they’ll work out the few kinks I hope they do well and are supported by the locals and the tourists discover them. Would give it another chance in the future.

This was yummy — a small place with a few outdoor tables but no water view. Great Mole, and Adobe Chicken. This is authentic Mexican. not just tacos and burritos We can’t wait to return there!

The best Mexican food around hands down. I went with some friends and the staff was extremely friendly. Their cucumber jalapeño margaritas were to die for. We had the enchiladas and I’d say those were the best I’ve ever had. Definitely will be back!

The food is great and the bar staff is super fun but not having a website, menu, or phone number listed online is going to be the death of ‘em.

I’ve been here a few times now and the food is always excellent, and very reasonably priced. The service is always fast and friendly. Definitely worth a visit, and definitely the best Mexican in the area.

Atmosphere in the bar was very relaxing. Our server Kelly was great and so were our margaritas. I didn’t think i liked Mexican. I was wrong. I love it. I will be back again and again.

We Stopped by Tortuga for apps and drinks and it was great! The margaritas were delicious and the quesadilla langosta and carnitas app were a generous portion and excellent. Our server, Kelly was pleasant and knowledgeable! Will definitely be returning!

I went to Tortuga last night with 5 friends. I looked for a salad on the menu, and there was only one unappetizing one listed on the menu. There were no Burritos, and few chicken options. There were no gluten free or low carb options. The Margarita was fair, and was loaded with fruit, presumably to take up space in the glass. The décor was nice, but the space is very small. I had fun, but would not recommend the restaurant. The Pier news a great restaurant in that location, and this is not it.

We love this place! My boyfriend and I stopped by on Sunday, June 14. The bar was full so we sat at a high top. Service was prompt and we were given chips and salsa right away. I ordered an awesome drink called an Island something(crushed blueberries, Prosecco, etc). It was fabulous, highly recommend it. My boyfriend even switched from beer to have one of these. The food was delicious. My boyfriend ordered the enchiladas and I ordered the Pezole which I’ve never had before but it was fantastic! Lots of flavor. We fought over the last bite and left nothing on our plates. We’re looking forward to going again when we’re back in town. It’s nice to have a new cuisine in the Pier!

Based on the poor performance this weekend, it looks as though the curse of the Pier is going to continue. Since the closing of the much missed Woody’s, there have been a fair number of restaurants that have tried to make a go of this space right by the beach in Narragansett. I’m not too hopeful that Tortuga will fare better than the rest. We started with a complimentary basket of crispy tortilla chips and«salsa», the word is in quotes on purpose. And it brings up a question, if you can’t make salsa, is it really a Mexican restaurant? We were served a bowl of marinara sauce, with peppers and onions. Cooked, cold, basil and sugar style marinara. Not even a good one at that BTW. A first course of Chicken Flautas was certainly a strong improvement. I was thrown off a bit by the phyllo style dough, and that Romanesque tomato sauce made an appearance, but it wasn’t the worst dish of the night. I made an attempt to order the fish tacos, but there were no orders available of the two fish dishes a little past 7:30 on a Saturday night. So, Carnitas style Pork it is. Its a shame when you can’t get flavor from a pork shoulder. My tacos had a balled up roll of shredded pork inside, that I have to assume was prepared in a boiler. I don’t know any other way you could suck so much flavor from something so tasty as a pig. Its a mystery for sure. Heck, even a little salt would have gone a long way. The Margaritas were decent, and our server was kind, and polite and efficient, but the food was dreadful. Poorly done.

Just steps away from the beach and a gorgeous view of the parking lot. That was my first thought. My second thought; holy crap this place is crowded! Third thought; I see a lot of local faces, this is a good sign. The staff also looked familiar, another good sign. The bar is tight, 4 or 5 seats maximum but there are plenty of high tops and another dinning room that I never really looked at. The TV behind the bar is bright and quality so there is a good chance ill be planted there for a few Bruins losses next year. We only grabbed a few appy’s and drinks. The made to order Guacamole and house made tortilla chips were slamming. Despite the crowd the professional staff was fun, swift, and efficient. When you have a fun staff, good crowd, slamming Guacamole, who needs a view? I’ll be back.
