I had high hopes and expectations(being from Memphis) for B&C, as I had heard nothing but good things. Unfortunately, my experience was far from good — or even satisfactory. The food — served from warming trays — was barely warm. My pulled chicken was lukewarm at best. I took our plates to the counter to see if the food could be reheated. The manager on duty seemed unfazed by my problem and told me they had no way to heat the food(which in hindsight I find believable). On top of that, the restaurant was out of cornbread muffins and offered no replacement or discount for the plate combo they were to accompany. This wasn’t a major offense, but it left a bad taste in my mouth, as did their sauces. But that is more of a preference than anything. I will say the buffalo chicken grits were good(they would have been better warmer), but they weren’t enough to bring me back. Hopefully this was a fluke or off day for the restaurant.

I’m a big fan of B&C. There are two reasons I like it besides the fact it tastes great. They have grits and offer different types. The price is tremendous. I recommend the pulled pork. It tastes phenomenal with the mustard BBQ sauce.

The ribs had good flavor but just way to much fat. The sides were pretty good. Pulled pork was ok.

Melrose’s used to have the best brisket in Nashville. Then I found Edley’s. Unfortunately, Edley’s doesn’t serve the brisket at night. So for night time brisket cravings I come to Melrose’s. However, the last two times I’ve been to Melrose’s the brisket AND sides were cold. When the brisket is hot they would rate a 4⁄5. But the trend of cold food is not good and gets them a 2… You guys need to fix this.

I would never have expected this place to be as good as it is. By looking at the location, in a strip mall right by Kroger, you have your doubts. I went in one day to get a take out order, and got the BBQ pork plate. It was amazing and very reasonably priced. The sides are all homemade and delicious too. The mac and cheese is my favorite. They have a wide variety of sauces that you can choose from to take with you in to go containers. Great place for bbq.

I really REALLY wanted to love this place — the price is right, it’s close to work, and has spacious seating. Unfortunately I could not get on board. The sides left something to desire and I didn’t find the flavor of the ribs on level with other local meat-n-threes. With that said, the staff was super friendly, they had a good beer selection, and in a pinch I would eat here again.

Thanks Unilocal!Just in town, never spent time in Nashville, so pulled up the app looking for recommendations. Being in the South, we had to try out some BBQ and found that we were close by. It had good reviews, so we had to try it out. We were not disappointed… I had awesome brisket and my wife had amazing pulled pork with all of the trimmings. The sauces were tasty! And they had buffalo chicken grits which were excellent, even for someone not used to eating them. Very glad we consulted Unilocal and found this gem!!!

Pretty awesome barbecue joint here! It was one of the first places we ate at when we moved to Tennessee, and we just recently ate here again after trying several others. It did not dissapoint where others have. I will confess here and now my love for brisket, I LOVE me some good brisket!!! I have had some of the tastiest brisket from a place called 4 Rivers in Florida, and have been mostly dissapointed in comparison by the ones here in Nashville so far. This is one of the exceptions to the above statement; but I did find it somewhat dry in comparison. It’s still far above the rest here in Nashville other than Jack’s. Jack’s has some seriously good brisket as well. That said, the sides here are so amazing that it sets them even further apart than the rest of the Nashville barbecue we have tried. So far we have had the Green Beans twice, as they were soo amazing. We have also tried the Mac and Cheese, as well as the Garlic cheese grits! I’m not usually a grit person, but these are so, so, delicious that I find it hard to put into words. I really didn’t think I would like them as much as the Mac I had there, because it was epic as well, however, gun to my head, I’d probably choose the grits again over the Mac and Cheese. This would be a 5 star review if I had never eaten 4 Rivers brisket before, and that shouldn’t be held against this place, but it is what it is.

A friend and I had a «Two Men and a Baby» thing going on for lunch. I couldn’t think of a better pick than B&C(Bacon & Caviar). Although they have neither bacon nor caviar on the menu, the food is still incredible. Wood-paneled walls and modern/rustic décor give B&C a rather inviting atmosphere. The dining area isn’t the largest I’ve encountered, but I’m sure it serves its purpose just fine. They weren’t very busy when we arrived at 11:00am, though that was precisely why we chose to go at opening time. Having the dining room mostly to ourselves was also perfect for those few high-pitched squeals from time to time. Sadly, there are no multi-meat combos on the B&C menu, although I did my best to create one of my own. I ordered a ¼ Rack St. Louis Style Ribs Plate, as well as a half-pound of Brisket and a half-pound of Pulled Pork. My plate came with two sides, for which I selected their Mac N Cheese and the Grit of the Day, which happened to be Buffalo Chicken Grits. It was clearly more food than I(or anyone else for that matter) needed, but this way I’d have some barbecue leftovers to take to work on Monday. Win-win. As advertised, the Buffalo Chicken Grits had a distinct buffalo sauce flavor. They were decently spicy and really, really tasty. Far from basic grits, these had pulled chicken mixed right in. The gooey, melty Mac N Cheese was equally spectacular. I’m not sure what combination of cheeses were used, but they worked great together. Their choice of spices also gave this comfort dish an excellent zestiness. The brisket wasn’t exactly chopped, but it had gotten broken up slightly in order to fit inside the cylindrical styrofoam to-go container. I was extremely pleased to find some glorious black bark on these slices. The bark was packed with seasoning and a smokiness that matched the red hue beneath. The fattier pieces were beyond compare and just melted in my mouth. Pulled pork is slowly growing on me, especially when I eat some as good as this. There was a great saltiness which made each bite a pleasure. I found plenty of smoke-kissed bits of meat scattered throughout and a decent smoky flavor. The pork was also amazingly tender and juicy, yet still had a substantive meaty texture. The big, meaty spare ribs were cooked perfectly. Each bite of the ribs was very tender and very juicy. There was a nice smoke level here as well, but not so much as to mask the natural pork flavors. A hefty dusting of black pepper gave the pork a great spiciness and a great taste. Thanks, B&C!

So Ignore the fact that it’s in a shopping center with a kroger, this place is Delish! Set up like a deli/subway almost you tell them what meat and they go down the line with your sides. They even have a few beer selections. But the food is great I always get beef brisket and I was happy it wasn’t riddled with a lot of fat, I’ve been to places where I’ve pretty much had a few bites and had to throw the rest away, I ate pretty much all of my meat I was so happy I forgot I had a fork… just used my fingers and I had gotten a little bit of each sauce to dip and try them all I was very pleased. Also a nice sitting room off to the side I enjoyed it I will be back!

Ribs, ribs, ribs, ribs, ribs, ribs, ribs, ribs, ribs, ribs, ribs, ribs, I love ribs. Super delicious ribs at B&C! This is definitely a sweet little BBQ joint in Nashville that I feel like flies under the radar. We tried pretty much everything on the menu and were quite satisfied. The brisket wasn’t as melt-in-your-mouth I would’ve liked it(I am fresh off an Austin trip though…), but it was good. The baked beans and mac were pretty tasty too. We even ordered these deep fried meat eggroll things that were super rich but delightful. Prices were decent, seating was plenty, and service was quick. This is a place I’d definitely come back to the next time I stop by Nashville.

This is a casual dining BBQ place in a strip mall. There are no servers. You place your order, get your food, pay, then find a table in the adjacent dining room which has around 20 tables. They have a variety of BBQ plates, sandwiches, & sides. They also sell meat by the pound. I had the brisket plate with cole slaw and mac & cheese. It came with a corn muffin. All of it was very good. They have about 5 different BBQ sauces to choose from. I had the hot which I enjoyed. The prices are pretty reasonable. I would definitely go back and try some of the other items.

So I have a theory. I think I’ve figured out why Nashville isn’t known as a BBQ city. There are BBQ styles such as Kansas City, Austin, Memphis and Carolina but not Nashville. I’ve lived in Tennessee all my life and have found that Nashville has some really good Q. So I was mad that there is no Nashville BBQ. That’s where my theory comes in. Nashville is a melting pot. The differing styles come here. I can name for you good places to get Memphis ribs(peg leg porkers), Texas style brisket(Judge Bean’s) and a great Carolina style sauce(Jacks) but there is no Nashville style Q. So instead of being mad I’ve learned to sit back and enjoy the largess of my fair city. One of my favorites is B and C. That stands for Bacon and Caviar by the way. My wife and I have lunch at B & C Melrose about once every other month. They are always good and fast. I always get the same thing, Pork over grits with slaw and green beans and my wife gets a regular sandwich and a side. The Pulled pork is not overly smoked or over salty(two pet peeves.) but flavorful enough to stand on it’s own without sauce. But they do have sauce in fact they have a nice selection of sauces. My favorite being the sweet heat. There are mild, hot, extra hot, sweet and mustard. I’ve tried most of them and they are good. Now about the grits. If you don’t like grits and if it helps you, then call them polenta. Just not out loud to the staff, you might get asked to leave. They have cheddar grits daily then a «special» grits on other days. The Buffalo chicken(Tuesday and Saturday) is a wonder. I have dreams… Also good is the jalapeño(Friday), which I had at lunch today. One little complaint; the coleslaw which is usually very good kind of sucked today. Like they spilled vinegar in the sauce. Nashville is where the different styles can coexist peacefully. Like the United Nations but much tastier.

How is it that my favorite BBQ in Nashville comes from a strip mall? I’m not sure, and I don’t really care either. Everything is always consistent — I have never had a bad experience with the food or service, which is great considering the amount of time I’ve been going there. Pulled chicken is better than pulled pork here, which could upset some BBQ connoisseurs. Always be sure to ask for the white sauce for the chicken, it’s completely necessary. With that said, every sauce is great, and can satisfy each person’s individual taste. The mustard sauce is more mustardy than I’ve ever had, which I actually really like. Sweet heat is not like honey BBQ, it just had a touch of sweetness. Hot is really well spiced, so it’s a front of the mouth spice that is easily handled. Sides/cornbread are what make this place, though. The baked beans are seriously next level. Best I’ve had. Could eat a mountain of them. Grits are also really really dope. Cole slaw isn’t really much to write home about, but definitely good. Just nothing special. Corn bread is so, so good. Dip it in your favorite sauce if you’re brave. Everything is well priced, and great portions of good food. Love the place!

This place is great! We dropped by just out of convenience because we planned on going to Athens Family Restaurant but they were closed for a Christmas party. We then stopped by a pizza place in the same shopping center as this. Their flashing sign said open, the door said closed, but it was unlocked. No one to be found. So, third time is the charm right? You’re damn right about that. We came in and I asked the guy what was good here. He initially gave me the typical«everything», but then told me that he likes the brisket the most. So I got a brisket plate with the garlic cheese grits and mac & cheese with cornbread. My girlfriend asked about the pulled pork or pulled chicken. The employee said he likes the pork on the sandwich, but the chicken on the plate. So she got a pulled chicken plate with baked beans and mac & cheese and cornbread. The cornbread is probably the best I’ve ever had and the grits are amazing. The brisket was juicy, tender, and fell apart when id go to get it with my fork so I had to eat it with my hands. I’m not complaining. It went really well with their mustard bbq sauce, the sauce itself was mild, and tangy but really good. But, the sweet heat bbq sauce was great on both the chicken and the brisket. I’m really glad we stumbled upon this place. Great atmosphere, food, employees, everything. I’ve never been happier with a bbq place.

The food was amazing! The pulled pork was tender and moist and the ribs were juicy and seriously perfect. There were at least 4 bbq sauce choices and each were really good, especially the mild bbq and the sweet bbq sauce. The mac n cheese was super cheesy and I couldn’t get enough of that. My brother really enjoyed the grits. I’m not a fan of grits but there was a sign on the wall that said their grits was voted the best in Nashville and they had a few different choices. I also really enjoyed their red velvet cake and their carrot cake is amazing!!! I wasn’t a fan of the creole slaw and wish they just had regular coleslaw. This was too dry and pickle-y. Again, this is not my thing so I wouldn’t know but my brother who is a fan said the corn bread was just standard. nothing special. I guess thats good? The last thing we had was fried pickles. They were alright, but I really do prefer the pickles to be thinly sliced and not as breaded, but still good. Overall, the food was just amazing. And to top it all off, it was actually cheap! We walked out unable to stop talking about how good it was. Two(small) issues with this place though is that the atmosphere is non existent. They really could do more renovations and make it nice. Maybe put some music on. I don’t know… do something with the dining area. Add booths or something. They could stand for improving the interior. The people were super friendly though. The second thing was that it was confusing to find. Its directly next to a Kroger’s but my gps kept directing me to the strip mall below that one. And it didn’t help that the name is B&C Melrose BBQ or Bacon and Caviar Melrose. Its really confusing. And by looking at trends in the previous reviews, I would say that this place doesn’t have a 5 out of 5 yet because in 2010 – 2012, they might have made mistakes in hiring the right staff because people have complained about how welcoming or friendly they were, but I didn’t experience that today and also the inconsistency in how tasty the barbecue meats were. I wouldn’t know since this is my first time but I hope its always this good! Overall, though, I still have to give it a 5⁄5 because the bbq ribs, mac and cheese and desserts were sooo delicious! There are a few things they could change like the 2 or 3 items on the menu that need tweaking or the dining area, but its nearly perfect. The food completely makes up for any shortcomings.

My husband and I are on a quest to find the best BBQ in Nashville. We judge this based on the pulled pork & the ribs. B&C was our third stop on this venture, and we weren’t overly impressed with those selections. It wasn’t bad, but it just wasn’t the best. The pork was moist, but it lacked the deep, rich flavor that we look for. The ribs were sauced, a bit too much almost, and extremely greasy and fat — the fattiest & greasiest ribs I’ve ever eaten, ever. That being said, the rib’s sauce had plenty of peppercorn on them, which is one of my favorite flavorings. The mild & sweet tangy sauces were underwhelming. I give them props for offering a mustard sauce, which isn’t as common in Nashville, but it needed a bit more vinegar. The hot sauce was by far our favorite. We chose the black eye pea salad & cajun cole slaw for our sides. Not much excitement to report there, but we’ve yet to find a bbq place that offers«slap your momma» good sides. From what I saw, their grits are where it’s at, but I don’t generally consume corn so I didn’t give those a go. The service was good. Nothing to report there. The dining area was clean. Overall, this is a decent bbq place. Maybe their specialty lies in other meats? It’s not a bad place, but not worth the trip from the suburbs.

April 21st, I had to work a full day(12 hr shift) so I knew I was in NOSHAPE to cook dinner. so I stopped at B&C Melrose BBQ… for the sheer fact that the train was blocking my daily route home and I needed to detour over into the Berry Hills area to make my way home. I thought, hummm… BBQ sounds good and I haven’t tried them yet… so winner winner Chicken dinner. or in this case Rib dinner… I entered into the small location at the end of the strip mall at the Kroger’s there. It is sort of hidden so if you are NOT looking for it, you will miss it. I went in and was immediately greeted by two friendly gents at the front counter. I told them my first visit and I needed a minute. and they both chimed in and said. welcome and you can’t go wrong with any of your choices… I ordered the half slab st louis style ribs with the two side choices of bacon/cheddar grits(the grits of the day) and mac n cheese. and then I ordered brisket dinner with two sides of baked beans and squash casserole. I then grabbed a piece of pecan pie for Tony. he loves Pecan pie. I took several sides of the various sauces to try out. I took our order to go. it was $ 25.plus tip… When I got it home. I grabbed a couple of plates out of the cupboard and began hashing out our portions. we both were trying a little bit of everything. our plates were heaping full… OKAY.the bacon cheddar grits… I am not a GRITSPERSON. but it was good. I mean if I like Grits then these are great grits but ummm. I am not a grits person. so nah… not again for me. but that is ME… a grits lover would love them… the mac n cheese, GREAT. I wish I had more of these to scarf down… The squash casserole was good but a little too sweet for my liking… but it was good and cheesy… and the baked beans… OMG…awesome.I would eat a gallon container of these baked beans EASY. The ribs were great. I really liked my sauces choices. I would eat the ribs again. but the winner winner winner on the plate was the BRISKET.OMG.so moist and tender. You could easily feed this to a baby… it literally melted in my mouth and when MEATMELTS. that is tender and juice. I could eat this Brisket daily… gain a million pounds… but oh it would be almost worth it… so if you go… get the Brisket, with baked beans and mac n cheese and you will be very happy… but watch out, if I am near by I might have to sneak a bite.

This place is a gem. After Edley’s pissed me off a few times, I’ve been looking elsewhere for bbq and especially for brisket. The brisket is fantastic here. There were maybe 2 bites of inedible fat, but the most of it was simply tender and delicious. The mac and cheese was great, no dry mac here! And the collards… oh man the collards were off the chain. Pulled pork– delish. Grits– solid. Lots of sides to choose from. Desserts looked amazing, but we opted for 2 oreo truffles. Hey for $ 1.50 you can get a a bite to satisfy your craving. Whoa– those were soooo good. What I really loved was all their sauces to choose from. I liked all the ones I tasted, especially the sweet heat. Yum!!! Get it to go, eat there– they even cater. LOVED our experience and reasonably priced. Will be back very soon!
