This place is super interesting. Its not completly Mexican. It is not kinda trendy/new age brunchy(depending on certain hours). It kinda has a live music thing going on(then again this is Nashville). It has some West Coast flavoring in its food yet a very modern Nashville décor. I like it because the food is delciious(without the ridiculous portions of most Mexican places) and has a very gourmet taste to it. It is a great place to take both visitors out of a town and for a daily munchies. Just be warned… you don’t get chips and salsa for free here!

Boca Loca has amazing specials. Tuesdays they have BOGO tacos and $ 2 Mexican beers. On Saturday and Sunday, they have bottomless mimosas or 2 for 1 beers. Their tacos are smaller, which is why I suggest going during one of their specials, but they are delicious. I always choose the Ahi Tuna or Duck Tacos. If you are looking for authentic Mexican food, this is NOT the place for you, but if you can find authentic tacos in Nashville, please let me know!!! I would suggest going in a small group and sitting at the bar. The bartenders are much friendlier than the servers. For those cold blooded Unilocalers out there, Bring a jacket. it is ALWAYS cold!

My sister, her boyfriend, and I were in town for Unilocal Spring Break, and while we were enjoying some Bloody Mary’s over at Jackson’s after breakfast on Saturday, the bartender working that morning recommended Boca Loca. So way later on that night for dinner, we walked in and were seated right away. The other two were really excited about eating here. I was not so much. To start, I ordered a cucumber mint margarita, which I didn’t realize was served up until it came out… it wasn’t that great. I love cucumber, and I love mint, but something about this drink just didn’t do it for me. We ordered guacamole for the table, and it was delicious, though the chips were pretty forgettable. For my meal, I went with the El Boca Quatro(choice of four signature tacos): the housemade chorizo, the ahi tuna, the spicy shrimp, and the duck carnitas with a side of pinche frijoles charros(beans with bacon) and rice. Ok…now let me just say that when it comes to choice of cuisine, Mexican is one of those that is usually pretty low on my list. I have had very few experiences with authentic Mexican food, so of course I am no expert, but these were the best tacos I have ever had. The meat/seafood was all perfectly seasoned and complemented well by the accompaniments within each taco. I don’t have a clue what the rice was seasoned with but that was excellent also, as were the beans with bacon. I can’t pick out one favorite item of the meal because I thoroughly enjoyed them all(I also snagged a bite of my sister’s corn, and that was seriously yummy). I can’t comment too much on the service because I was starving and not really paying attention to that for once. All of our orders were timely, and we were all happily stuffed by the time the check came. The ambiance of the whole place at night with the dimness of the lighting and the open windows with warm air blowing through definitely made us want to hang out a little while longer for a few more drinks, but we were sleepy and opted for bed instead.
