Great food. Good choices of hot dogs. Locally sourced which is nice. Employees are friendly!

We were on vacation visiting family. So after a member’s baseball game, we hit this small Pirate location! 4 and higher! First off — the owner has a policy for the ball players in the community — come with yer uniform on — you get one free ice cream! Can’t be that for starters! Second — you can buy some fish food, to feed the fish —(and well there is this lil family of feasting Canadian geese brood that just love to eat it all up!) There is a nice pond, and you get quite a scenic view as you eat up your morsels. Speaking of morsels: Hamburger and Dog heaven! You can get a variety of Dogs(and dare I say it but my all time favorite the Zweigle brand is sold here! *scream with delight*), bratwursts, sausages from all over, burgers, chicken tenders, fish fry, and of course the all mighty sides of fries. Now I cannot recall all the sides, but all I will say is this — just GOTHERE! STOPREADING _GO! :) Or you can continue reading — I had the fish fry. And I was not disappointed. This thing looked was everything in length to that of a Nathan Hot Dog, with a nice crunchy crust and perfect flaky morsels of fishy flavor inside! Oh and the fish was actually longer than the bun! SCORE! Oh and yes they do tout their Pirate Flag!!! They do have a walk out dock, where the flag flies in true form! Gotta love it! To bad they didn’t have an old looking pirate ship sitting around… That would have made the place complete! Now off the plank and git yer food matey! Arrrrr! *and yes I would go back in a heartbeat if I could, but kinda far to travel to there now*

Wonderful hot dogs and fish fries. Top quality ingredients which are cooked to perfection and served with a smile by owners Mike and Susan. The Nassau Lake setting is beautiful and makes for an nice backdrop to the casual food. A terrific destination restaurant from Albany and beyond. The food is made with care and love which shows in every bite. Highly recommended.

Pirates Lakeside Grill is a seasonal roadside food stand located on CR7 along«pristine» Nassau Lake, between the Village of Nassau and East Schodack. Daniel wrote a very comprehensive and detailed review of the hot dog offerings served at PLG. PLG serves up a variety of hot dogs and sausages here including Nathan’s All Beef Dogs, Zweigle’s red hots and Zweigle’s white(Rochester), Usinger’s(Milwaukee, Wi), Route 66 Smokehouse(Wynantskill) and Tilldale Farm(Hoosick). Other menu offerings include burgers, grilled sandwiches, chicken tenders, cod fish frys, fried seafood, fries, rings, homemade chili, baked beans, and slaw. They also serve up soft serve ice cream treats and cold drinks. On a recent afternoon country drive on a sunny Saturday, I stopped here for lunch. I ordered the Wurst Plate($ 8.75 plus tax) which include a knackwurst, a bratwurst. sauerkraut, potato pancakes, and applesauce. The food was hot and ready in about 10 minutes. I enjoyed my lunch at one of the picnic tables overlooking Nassau Lake. Both the knackwurst and bratwurst were grilled nicely, plump and juicy. The potato pancakes were similar to deep fried hash brown chips, slightly greasy. The sauerkraut was standard and the crushed chilled applesauce served in a small plastic cup. Lunch was very good and filling. I did not save room for ice cream, but maybe next visit. The Hot Fudge Sun-Dough sounded very good!

Summer is almost over. What the heck are you waiting for!!! This is no ordinary seasonal soft serve shack. This place is special. It is totally worth the drive from Albany. And if you happen to be driving through the Capital Region on I-90 you should make the short detour to check it out. It’s like a hamburger and hot dog lover’s dream come true. Perhaps it would be more accurate to say that the owners of this stand have assembled an all-star team of hamburgers and hot dogs. Any lover of the form will recognize them immediately from the menu: — Usinger’s brats and wieners from Milwaukee — Zwiegle’s red hots(and white hots) from Rochester — Nathan’s famous all beef dog But then there are the local contenders to the throne: — Local pasture raised pork dogs from Tilldale Farm — Italian sausage from Andy’s in Albany — Wynantskill’s Route 66 Smokehouse natural casing dogs There’s even a six way hot dog sampler. However, the dish that inspired me to make the drive out here for the very first time was the grassfed burger from Sweet Tree Farms in Carlisle, NY. That’s some seriously good beef. The last thing I was expecting in a $ 5.75 quarter pound burger was to be asked, «How would you like that cooked?» I said, «Medium rare» never expecting it to be even remotely pink inside. I’ve had larger burgers overcooked in much fancier places. But medium rare it turned out to be. Did I also happen to mention this place is actually on a lake? It’s a gorgeous lake with plenty of shade and a lovely breeze even when the air temperature is hot. So for under $ 10 you can get a burger and a dog made from ingredients better than most fancy restaurants within a hundred miles of here, and eat it with a waterfront view. Seriously, this place is amazing. The catch. The hours suck. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday you are just out of luck. No PLG for you. And honestly, I wish they would use better buns than the Martin’s Potato Rolls. To take such great meat and serve it on buns enriched with FDC Yellow #5 seems to be a minor travesty. Hopefully in the future, they can find some better rolls, improve their hours, and I can give them that fifth star they deserve. In the meantime, you best get out here quickly, because summer is wrapping up and this fourth season of PLG will soon be nothing more than a memory.
