A & D Hawaiian BBQ

My mother & I are the only ones here & we ordered two mini Katsu chicken. We’ve been waiting for our food for 15 minutes & when I look at the cook, he’s watching TV. Outside it says under new management… Management needs to hire new people. I wish I read the reviews before we came here. Never again.

Absolutely the worst service I have ever had. I went here with my girlfriend and only ordered 2 spamisubi and a small chicken Katsu and it took us 1 hour just to get our food !! It was ready sitting behind the counter but they didn’t even bother to give it to us. The food was okay but probably would have been better if it were given to us sooner. I don’t mean to be rude because it is a mom and pop shop but having customers waiting on their food is never a good thing.

Terrible service terrible food. Deceptive menu. Nothing is fresh. Half wilted «slaw» dried out rice, and the fish wasn’t even an upgrade from old school cafeteria food. No flavor and I’m sure it came from a bag in a box precooked and frozen.

one of the workers was smoking in front of the door of the restaurant, the smoke was coming in while i was eating. Disrespectful!

i remember coming here when it first opened &i dont remember it being this horirble!
i decided to come here again because of that reason &of how convenient the location is considering i live behind it but was very disappointed in the food &service. Upon entering the place was very empty and dirty, no one was at the counter but there was a lady sitting on the side playing cards with another person. She didn’t bother to get up until I actually got up to the counter and until i made eye contact with her I guess she thought I was only there to look at the menu and wasn’t expecting me to order anything because it looked like she didn’t even care if I did or not? I ordered the Hawaiian BBQ platter to go and boy was it a waste of money not only was Thor sauce not good but the meat wasn’t wasn’t even cooked all the way! I couldn’t even cut it apart cause it was so rubbery and not only that but the rice was even worst it smelled like it has been sitting there for at least a day or two so I didnt even bother eating it at all, what a waste of money, sighs. I thought about going back and returning the food and getting my money back but I didn’t want to deal with it. Definitely not coming back.

Look man, if you guys want to stay in business 6 months longer you need to step your game up.
Hawaiian BBQ really needs to be taken up by people of an Islander descent. I walked in and the scene was all too familiar, there was a kid up front on a computer in a booth, and both parents are working the grill & register. You’ll see this in most Chinese family-​owned places, take it from me, a Chinese man. I used to be the kid playing on the computer in a front booth of a eatery 20 years ago. Leave your kid at home.
Here’s my tips from what I experienced today:
1. Don’t add garlic to my gravy. Ugh.
2. Don’t overcook my eggs when I ask for «over easy,» set the wok at low heat, shouldn’t take more than 30 seconds.
3. Don’t overcook my burger patty. This is so easy to not mess up. At least grease it up to prevent it becoming a hockey puck.
4. Stop putting so much water in the rice. It’s mushy.
5. Garlic spicy chicken: don’t dump peppers and salt all over it! Way too spicy. Let the customers add their own.
6. Why didn’t you put macaroni salad in my loco moco?! Argh!
7. Change/​dust your fixtures & art. If it’s Hawaiian BBQ, make it look like it. Why am I looking at desert landscapes inside?
8. Speed up your cooking process, I could’ve knocked out this order in 5 minutes, tops. You’re using woks too, it should be 3 minutes.
If not, just let me run the place.

The food isn’t bad. I just don’t like the location and the interior.
1. Parking sucks butt.
2. The inside is a bit outdated and isn’t the cleanest place ever.
But i like the food and they give you a lot. I always just order my food to go. I like the $ 5 combos. I’ve gotten something different every time I’ve eaten there. I’ve gotten garlic shrimp, chicken katsu, and honey walnut shrimp. All were on their $ 5 menu. Always satisfied with my food. When I’m in National City, I do consider this place to eat at. But only for take out and if i want a quick bite for a few bucks.

another hawaiian bbq… its close to my work and next time subway’s line is out the door… i’m going here. its less commercial than other hawaiian bbq’s i go to… parking totally sux here tho… hmmm…with so many to choose from in national city… not sure how often i’ll be here…

This was one of the worst hawaiian fast food ever! I’m being nice to even all it hawaiian food. There is seriously only one person works there, and the food is really bad. I got the chicken katsu expecting something really good, but no, it was greasy, and they didn’t even bread it correctly! The only thing I think they got right was the rice! I am never ever going to eat here again. If I had a choice to starve or eat here, I would starve!

I don’t know what girl below was talking about… perhaps she came on a bad day. But when I showed up with a friend, the lady at the counter was hella helpful! Her name was Diana and she was friendly, upbeat and welcoming. Perhaps she was Merry being it was Christmas EVEEE!
Sheesh, we were craving something and my friend wanted Hawaiian BBQ. I am guessing he has never tried it before by asking this lady all kinds of questions like, «What is in the combo?» My response, «Can you see the big ass picture on the menu?» As the lady laughed with me.
It was pretty much empty (remember its a holiday) but a grip of people came for pick ups. I’m not going to clown the interior because, um by the name of this place, its one of those fast food joints. The food was cooked well, had flavor and served with a smile =D.
I do not know why Diana made a comment: «You and your BF make a cute couple, so happy… happy customers!» As we left, I just smiled and said, «Thank you!»

DO NOT COME HERE!!! My mom and I ate here, and one word to describe the food, interior, and owners… DISGUSTING!!! My mom ordered the mixed grill which came with short ribs and chicken. Both meats were RANCID! I do not know how long the meats have been sitting in their fridge rotting, but it was HORRIBLE. The macaroni salad had a funny taste, which made us question, whether or not that too was old! The tables were very messy, as was the floors and walls. The owner, who is Chinese was eating while taking customer orders. He also would cook the food, without washing his hands!!!
This place needs to go out of business!!! I am so disgusted just writing this review. Please avoid this place!!!
