Good portions on the Mess’ but most often there is an oily residue all over it. I don’t these buy from the Needham location anymore. Pizza’s are good and priced well. For the most part though the other items are up to interpretation. One example of many is a recent order from the menu. I saw and ordered the Calamari Parmesan with an option of ziti or Linguini. I went with the linguini. What I got was an order of Linguini and cheese/sauce in one container and a side order of fried calamari in another container with marinara. I figured I’d try it and mixed up the fried calamari into the linguini but ended up with a Linguini parmesan with soggy breading all over it. I appreciate their pizza and will keep to that only.

The food is delicious! My personal favorite are the«messes» which are basically just a bunch of different types of pasta all thrown together into one big mess of deliciousness. Some of the younger cashiers could be nicer, but I suppose we all were like that in high school. Especially in such a busy place. I get lunch here atleast once a week and totally recommend trying it!

Since my last review things have changed, pizzas now cost $ 5.99 instead of $ 5, and now the Needham location is not my closest anymore. HOWEVER, it is still my favorite. Comella’s recently opened in Westwood, about two minutes from my house. Since the Westwood Comella’s is one of the only restaurants in town now, wait times have sky rocketed. Sometimes you will have to wait an hour or more for pizza. I don’t bother with them too much anymore and rather just go to the Needham location. Wait times are an issue here too, but the Needham’s wait is never as bad as Westwood and doesn’t happen nearly as often(plus, at least I can always get through to Needham… sometimes you’ll have to call Westwood at least 20 times to get through to them!). Pizzas and various«messes» are delectable. Staff are friendly and kind, prices are pretty good on most meals. Parking for this location is tough. On street is available on either Great Plain Avenue or Glendoon Road. Definitely a cheap and good place for pizza in Needham. 5 stars.

Have only had take out. Great red sauce… and I’m picky! Good pizza too. I recommend the cheese and spinach raviolis.

Go to Comella’s for two reasons: 1.) $ 5 large cheese pizza, that is fresh and better than any fast food place. 2.) The MESS — You wish you could do this with the random leftovers in your kitchen, but you just can’t. The portions are a great size too. Once you start adding toppings on your pizza, the price isn’t worth it compared to the competition. Be careful during busy times — delivery can take forever, or there might be someone that ordered 50 pizzas ahead of you for a football game. Always good to call ahead.

Food is okay, and the price is right, but the service is very slow. More than 90 minutes to pick up a pizza for take out, and then when they tell you that it’s going to be ready in «three minutes», it takes more like 10 – 15

To sum it up, overpriced mediocre food. My husband and I have been to Comella’s(both in Chestnut Hill and Needham) many times, and always have a «just OK» experience. Against my better judgment, we decided to try it again recently. They got our order wrong — it was so wrong that my husband had no interest in eating what he got. If you’re a take-out joint, getting orders right is of the utmost importance. I got the meal I ordered, but it fell short of my expectations. I got a «mess» that was supposed to have pasta, cheese, sauce, meatball, sausage and vegetables. It ended up being about 45% pasta/sauce, 5% cheese, 40% vegetables and 10% meat. Not good ratios. I would expect equal parts meat and veggies, since that is what I paid a premium for. The«garlic bread» was not toasted(maybe it isn’t supposed to be?) or even warmed up. It was more or less just a slice of italian bread with a mere smidgen of butter and garlic. I think we just gave Comella’s «another try» for the last time. Stick to your local pizza /take out joint, or heck, even the frozen aisle of your local grocery store.

The food is amazing! The pasta is the best I’ve had and the pizza is delicious and you can’t beat the cost. The service is a bit lacking sometimes, but it could be much worse.

This may not be gourmet but is great Italian comfort food. We loved the chicken parm — good chicken and great sauce. Very reasonable prices. The staff seemed to handle the demand on a busy Friday night.

The system at Comella’s is VERY frustrating. They sometimes take a very long time to answer the phone. Once they do answer the phone, they often ask«if they can put you on hold» before they say anything else. Tonight, though, was one of the worse. Because even after that initial putting me on hold, once the person started to take my order, she interrupted to put me on hold not once, not twice, but THREE times. The order would have taken all of 20 seconds if she had completed it since I was only ordering 3 items. Another pizza/pasta place will get our business tonight.

We love the messes(Lazy C’s is our favorite) One mess is enough for two adults and they have nice salads which is well worth adding. We usually get a cheese pizza for our son, and for some reason that is ALWAYS a hang up in terms of timing — could be an hour or more wait. Why not just have more of those pizzas lined up? The good thing is that their timing estimates are pretty accurate; if they say it will be ready in an hour it will be, and if you arrive early your’s won’t be ready before the other people that have orders in. Fair is fair, just wish they could handle the volume better.

The food here is great, as it is at other Comella’s locations, but for some reason it’s always more crowded with a longer wait every time I come. Maybe this has something to do with a wait staff that’s less friendly than the Wellesley location, or maybe it’s just luck. And don’t even try to bring a group of friends — we struggled to even claim a spot for 4, and had people waiting in line bumping into our table. I’m a fan of the $ 5 homemade pizza price and the generous pasta servings, but I swear it’s a better experience if you pop 10 minutes over to Washington Street.

I don’t understand how there are bad reviews for this place. Ordered Mozzarella sticks and Pizza. Mozzarella sticks were decent, would have been better if we were on time picking up the food, but that is completely our fault, not Comella’s, so no complaint here. Pizza was good, and only $ 5, can’t argue with that! What really impressed us was the sauce that came with the Mozzarella Sticks. It was incredible. Definitely going to try the pasta next time, as the sauce was delicious. Just a quick word of advice, let the sauce cool off first, because it was piping hot, and burned out mouths a little bit. Overall, great place. I am actually thinking of going back there today, and I just ate their last night. Wish I knew of this place sooner! Thanks Comella’s!

$ 5 pizza is awesome. Eggplant Parm great. Their food can be a little heavy, but it’s always tasty and well priced.

This the first time I tried Comella’s and I will be back. I was hosting a dinner for 6 people and got: ½ bucket garden salad, 2 pizzas, full bucket ziti, and 2 orders of bread(basically they were sub rolls). The servings were huge and we had way too much food(especially the ziti). The ziti and pizza were absolutely delicious; I attribute this mostly to the sauce, which is the closest sauce I’ve found to New York-style in the area. The garden salad was a little paltry and the lettuce was very white/light iceberg. But it did come with gorgonzola cheese, which was delicious. And the dijon vinaigrette dressing was yummy! As I mentioned, the bread was literally sub rolls(which I knew about since the staff told me on the phone when I was ordering). I wish they had more bread options(they do have garlic bread). The place was bustling when I went to pick up the food, and I have been told that you do need to order far in advance(which I did). The food was so tasty and affordable that I know I will be a repeat customer.

I got Comella’s last week for dinner cause I had a craving for chicken parm and ziti. I’ll probably be back this week to try the chicken broccoli ziti. I’ll be the first to admit that I had no idea this place was in Needham Center. It’s right next to the Mobil station, for those of you traveling minus the GPS. As previously stated, I went for the Chicken Parm. $ 9 for a serving. Garlic bread is only .75 for a slice. The serving size was generous but nothing crazy. I killed it with ease, but I also don’t rock tapered-jeans. The meal itself was delicious. I got a good-size bed of ziti with one large, flattened chicken breast covered in sauce and melted cheese. I suppose if I wanted to stretch out my waistbands, I could add another chicken breast for 6 bucks or some meatballs(which are apparently bomb) for $ 1.50. I confirmed with my fellow Needhamites that Comella’s does do 5 dollar large cheese pizza’s all day every day. Again, I feel like an idiot for not knowing this for the last 27 years of my life. I haven’t tried one of the«messes» yet, but I’m sure I will before Memorial Day. I only ordered from here once — but it was ready when I got there. I ordered around 8ish, so perhaps ordering during peak hours can get the pasta chefs flustered. I’ll be back here soon — next stop, chix-brocc-ziti!

YUM!!! You can get a large cheese pizza, an individual mess, and a sub for about $ 20 bucks here. AMAZING. THe sauce is what makes it, and their meatballs are DELICIOUS(and I RARELY eat meat). I’ve had the vegetarian mess and the Pa’s mess(meatball) they were both great. I would like to see some variety in the mess pasta(ziti both times) but that is a very small, not important factor. The subs are also great, chicken parm, eggplant parm, and meatball are all delicious. Nom nom nom!!!

If you go here… you MUST get one of their famous messes. It’s a dish with a non-meat base and the pasta can change daily. They’ll always surprise you and it’s always delicious. We get Fat Joe Williams ½ bucket and it is more than enough food for 4. Way more. With salad, it’ll feed you for another day. btw…also located at 288 Washington Street, Wellesley, MA.
