What a great meal! Delicious oysters, clam chowder and the highlight of the night; spicy pasta with a whole crab. We finished with bananas foster. Good local craft beer and great service. Perfect Valentines Day evening.

Came in for what we had hoped would be a quick trip for wings and a drink. Boy! We were wrong, it wasn’t a full night but the service was incredibly slow we didn’t even get to order drinks for 15 minutes, delivered my cider in the can, took another 10 to get the waiters attention to bring a pint glass. Who wants to drink out of a can at a restaurant? Enjoyed my husbands company while we waited 45 minutes for a wing appetizer.

Ugh this place was so bad! We walked into the restaurant part of the restaurant– most of the tables were occupied but no one else was waiting. We asked how long the wait was and they told us 30 minutes. Ok, we thought, not one of these 35 tables is almost done– that’s weird. Then they suggested we go next door to the bar area, as the menu is exactly the same. We agreed and walked into a dark bar where the friendly bartender looked at us like we were crazy when we said we wanted to eat dinner in the bar. She seated us at one of the only tables, which was in the back of the bar next to the bathrooms and lottery machines. It was pretty dirty back there, tables stacked on top of tables, sticky floors, dark, dingy. Did I mention right next to the bathrooms where drunk people that looked like transients kept stumbling by, one of them nearly falling on our table because he was so drunk and it was so dark. Not exactly the environment you’d expect when paying $ 25+ per dish. I ordered Pinot Grigio which tasted like it was 2 weeks old. The menu was pretty unappetizing and feeling kinda on the spot, I just ordered the wings for an appetizer and the clam chowder for a dinner. The wings were so hot I couldn’t even take a bite. I dipped my finger in the sauce to try it and my mouth was burning like crazy. Sent those back. The clam chowder was mediocre at best. Too creamy– almost like mushy. Barf. It was definitely not what I’d expect from a restaurant right on the Oregon coast.

Driving along the coast we became hungry. We happened upon Schooner. We selected the netarts oysters on the half shell, 6 for $ 15 and the Rockfish Raj. Skip the Rockfish Raj and just order the Netarts oysters. They are large and sweet and so fresh that they cannot be beat. Don’t use the hot sauce and sauces, just savor the flavor of the sea in each oyster. You will not be sorry. The restaurant’s seating is mostly on the outside. The interior seating is limited. Our waitstaff seemed new and somewhat overwhelmed but he was pleasant and corrected his errors without any direction. Perhaps he was tired? Skip the rockfish raj unless you like batter fish. I prefer to taste fish not batter.

Location is beautiful. Inside is clean. Service was great… The food does get to you slower than your usual urban establishment but seriously you’re in a small coastal town eating at a restaurant nearly on the water… Why exactly are you in a hurry again? The food was amazing! I was with a large group of people and we all got the wings and both types of oysters as appetizers. All three were absolutely fantastic! I had the pork shank… It comes with a smear of horseradish on the side of the bowl… And the meat was tender, flavorful, and moist! Oh and then we had the brownie and the bananas foster… I’m not a huge banana fan but the brownie was hot with the perfect amount of salted caramel on top to contrast nicely with the vanilla ice cream. Also, the bar area was beautiful. The bartender was friendly and poured kind drinks. If you’re at all on the fence about going, do yourself a favor and go!

Location is nice near the water, and the service was good. However, our food was marginal. The fish and chips were not good(old oil and small pieces of fish), and the beer I tried was sub-par as well. Seafood chowder was fine but nothing to write home about. Also tried the tomato bisque on special, which was decent, and the barrata appetizer that was ok but über heavy on the garlic. Not many options in the area but I think I’d try another place next time.

Incredible food!!! Seafood is so fresh and drinks are amazing. But, if you want to be pampered with good service, this is not the place for you. It’s very casual, we did not really have a server, we just walked up to place the order. Toward the end of the meal a server showed up. But, I did not care as the food was so good and I will go back! Keep it up Schooner!

5 stars for location by the bay. 3.5−4 stars for food and service. Overall, a wonderful spot for lunch!

Three strikes and you are out!!! Been there 3 times as a local, and the first time we had Seafood Pasta, half was burnt and half was frozen. Second time was Cornish Game Hen with 2 very small fingerling potatoes, and it took them 2 ½ hours to get our food. Third time was Pizza, they didn’t fire up the pizza oven that day so we just left and haven’t been back since.

Unfortunate experience today, extremely SLOW service. Food was quite good when it finally arrived but we won’t be back. It wasn’t good enough to justify the wait. When we arrived the hostess seemed annoyed that we requested an outdoor table(it was a beautiful day!) and said«well you will have to wait for us to clean one!». We said that was fine, were seated 10 min later. It took about 10 – 15 minutes before we had someone come to take our order. Bowl of chowder with bread, kid’s burger, and burger with fries. After 45 minutes the waitress asked if we would like the chowder and said they were«backed up». We said yes because by this time we were really hungry. I didn’t really want to eat mine and then sit while my family ate their burgers, but oh well. We noticed other irritated diners and people waiting forever for service. Burgers finally arrived an hour after ordering. By the time we paid we were here nearly 2 hours for lunch. Not sure what’s going on but they have a beautiful location and outdoor deck so this could really be a lot better restaurant. Bummer.

Five star dining in a small town. Everything we ordered was amazing. The portion sizes were beyond generous. The prices were reasonable and the staff friendly. My eldest son ordered Paella, my husband had an Asian inspired pork shank noodle dish, my other sons had burgers & I had the fish and chips. For dessert we shared a brownie skillet topped with ice cream and a salted caramel sauce. The service wasn’t speedy, nor was it slow. It was completely appropriate for the complexity of the dishes offered. It was refreshing to sit in a restaurant where it did not feel as though there was a rush to eat, pay & leave. The ingredients are from local suppliers & the menu is not posted as it changes daily.

Yes service is slow. So what! Take in the scenery while you wait! The food is excellent, drinks stout enough for a sailor or an alcoholic. That’s the problem with people these days its all«now now now!» Relax and enjoy life. This place is very good for this!

Excellent dinner tonight! We ordered an appetizer of clams and calamari. Drinks all around were served. Low crowd tonight but gorgeous views. I ordered the fried oyster and salad. We also ordered the pork and an order of clam chowder. Excellent! Support this out of the way place right on the beach! It is so worth it!

First visit and I had heard good things. I was not disappointed, the general Tso wings are great, the fresh and very flavorful sauce was just great. I had a bowl of chowder for my main course and it was pretty good, one piece of clam had too much sand but didn’t have an issue with the rest of it. A friend had the pork shank and it was very well glazed. That said I enjoyed the pork shank more with the general Tso sauce.(I recommend making an actual general Tso chicken dish/meal, not everyone wants finger food and that sauce is too good not to use it more.) I have read through other comments and hope the kitchen has fixed its issues with slow speed, we did not notice a slow kitchen, but we were not looking for it either. My only slight complaint is the heat. There was outdoor seating and it was a hot day, I assumed I would be cooler to sit inside. Little did I know that meant no breeze like outside, but a main door open so we still got the heat. An AC unit or even some fans to move the hot air around would have made an improvement.

We went to the Schooner twice. The first time, we ordered a few appetizers and a paella, it was pretty quiet, so we had an attentive waiter. The appetizers were decent, and we were thrilled at their attempts to use local food, but the paella was awful, tasted like a dehydrated backpacker’s meal. Despite the high price tag, we opted to go again last night since we were in the area, and this place has so much promise! BIGMISTAKE. We waited about 45 minutes to get seated and were rudely treated by the bartender while we were waiting with drinks. But that’s OK, we were hungry, and drove a long time to get there. When we finally got our table, we noted that the place was half-empty, but they were still telling people the wait would be a half-hour or more. It took another 20 minutes for us to place an order, and yet ANOTHERHOUR for us to get our food. Which was awful. At that point, we were surprised at the low quality and inconsistency. Corn from the wood-fired oven was charred on one side and raw on the other, and not even seasoned as promise(3 dabs of sriracha sauce for a $ 5 price tag per ear). Fried green tomatoes? 3 slices for $ 8, and they were cold and greasy. Veggie kabobs featured raw eggplant and onions and no seasoning to speak of. Tuna was overcooked. My friends ordered a plate to share, and I was shocked when no more than 5 minutes after their food arrived, our waitress was already trying to take away the ‘extra’ plate, even though everyone else at the table was clearly eating and one person hadn’t even been served his food yet. When I pointed this out, I actually got yelled at by her, she slammed my friend’s plate down and said«FINE», and stormed off. A minute later another waiter tried to take her away her plate, too. We got out of there after waiting almost 2 hours for food, getting rushed out when we finally got it, it was inedible, and then still a big bill of $ 100 + with no apologies or explanations about what was maybe going on behind the scenes that could have caused such a catastrophe. Clearly mismanaged establishment, with no experience at the front of the house, and not at the back of the house either. Employees seem surly and miserable, food is overpriced and this was probably my worst dining experience to date. We frankly felt like we’d been robbed, and left hungry and angry. Seems such a shame, this place was probably great once, but seems like no one really cares about it anymore. Hope they get their act together. But we won’t be back.

Hours of operation are 7am-9pm. I wish I could give negative stars!!! It wouldn’t be fair to the people who don’t deserve it! I wish this was an exaggeration… We arrived at 6:15 — 6:30. Told it was an ½hour wait? Ok, busy packed it’s Saturday evening on a nice summer day. Over an hour goes by and finally seated outside(7:30pm) Which I requested when it was WARM out. I’m ok with the wait. My son and I have a beverage while we wait to be seated. Outside we wait for approx. 30 min for our order to be taken(8:00pm) I have to go order another beverage for my son and I because we have yet to see our waiter. We place our order of wings(delicious) and Mac n cheese and another main dish. Our hostess is nice enough to drag an outdoor heater to us because we are now freezing as everyone around us is as well. We don’t see nor hear from our waiter until our appetizer and Mac n cheese arrive an hour later(9:00 closing?) We then asked for a seat inside. As we got inside my main dish arrived shortly thereafter. Finished our meal and waited 15 minutes for my card and bill to be ran. Looked around the room to see many quietly holding in their frustration and late night despair. Bar maid awesome«superstar» Hostess pleasant and busy! Another waitress a tall blonde I hope made $$$!!! She actually took care of her patrons.

Lovely water views, sweet servers, and fresh food as can be… We even saw a fisherman hauling in oysters straight from the morning’s catch in nets and all. Food is made-to-order with the huge caveat that it will take a long time. Granted, we had a big order, but it was at least 45 minutes for our plates to roll out. Everyone agreed that the food was tasty, though I think it was under-seasoned. Loved the fried oyster and eggs. I could order just a plate full of those, which are rice floured, making them a little lighter and tastier than the typical fry. Had Sriracha too which was a bonus. And most plates were served with a thick slice of homemade bread. Definitely need not a quick breakfast stop, but good for a leisurely meal.

Stumbled across this place while driving the back roads on the coast. From the outside it looked exactly like what I was looking for in my mind– fresh seafood shack on the water(this place was more of a classy shack with a nice deck, I was looking for a shack!) Deck looked great, but saw they had the Seahawks on at the bar so I chose option two. Deck is really nice though– protected from the sea breeze and covered with high slopes roof. Menu is great– too many good things to choose from. Turns out they have an outside menu on the weekends on top of the regular menu– fantastic! I had the grilled rockfish tacos– perfectly cooked fresh rockfish, slightly spicy pico de gallo and fresh crema. Dripped down my face like a good Baja taco should. Bartenders were great too. I’ll be back!

This is a great little spot in Netarts that is more upscale than other joints around. The architecture is open, crisp, and has a fresh clean feel to it. The patio is expansive and provides a great view of the bay. This place was recommended to us by some local folks. We told them we wanted fresh oysters and they said«well you gotta go to Schooners.» So we did. The oysters couldn’t be more fresh. The bartender said they get them fresh daily and sometimes twice a day. $ 14 for a dozen. Good price. Fresh. Awesome view. I would recommend this place to fellow travelers looking for fresh seafood in town.
