Old Oregon Smokehouse is a tiny hole in the wall place where you will eat the best seafood of your life(provided you like their menu). Crab cocktail OMG I ate 2 and ordered 3 to go. Yes it’s completely fresh and delicious. The fried oysters and fried prawns were the biggest and most delicious I have ever tasted. I did not care for the clam chowder but my co workers did. They also have an amazing Crab Melt that was by far the best I had ever tasted. What they lack in ambiance they make up for in taste. This is a very casual jeans and t shirt place that has amazing casual seafood fair. Deep fried, sandwiches and cocktails. You can dine in or take to go. I recommend you do both. Eat your hot fried food there. Take the sandwich and cocktails for later. Heavenly.

I can only give this place 2 stars, because while the food was great, we had a weird experience with one of the kitchen guys. We went there on NYE, also my boyfriend’s birthday, arrived around 4pm, we ordered our food and sat down. After reading about how good the chowder was on Unilocal I went up and asked if we could order a cup, very exasperated he told me the kitchen closed at 4, the chowder was cold and looked like he wanted to punch me in the face, I sheepishly backed away from the counter without a word. Keep in mind that their only posted hours are on Unilocal(11 – 7;mon-sat), none on Google, none on the door, and their open sign was on. This left a bad taste with us as we both work in the service industry, customer service is VERY important to us. My boyfriend and I also hate being«that guy» who walks in at the last minute before close, so we were unwittingly made to be «that guy» and then yelled at because of it. My boyfriend apologized and said we didn’t know they closed early, but I don’t think we’ll be coming back again unfortunately. It’s sad because the food was good, but this experience was a reminder that courtesy goes along way…

Grease bomb. Some people seem to dig their seafood this way. We prefer to taste the seafood. Oysters and chips: inedible because of the overwhelming grease. Clam chowder had barely any flavor other than butter.

This is kinda like hole-in-the-wall wonderfulness. I don’t like slaw, so I can’t attest to the other reviewers accounts of it. The halibut and chips is excellent! You get 4 pieces of fish and plenty of chips, great flavor on the fish! The crab melt is a must — big chunks of crab, and super tasty stuff all mixed in with cheese. This isn’t fancy eats — just good, fresh fish, simply prepared, right off the highway.

Interesting place. Not so keen on the outside and I was a little worried. We stepped in and there was no one here at 6pm on a Saturday in Late October.(Off season?) Doesn’t really look too clean inside but we gave it a shot. Crab Melt was DELICIOUS5 Stars. Atmosphere 1 star. Service 2 Stars, not extremely friendly or happy. Fish and Chips 3 stars, pretty good. I would recommend giving this place a try.

This place was wonderful. It was very slow when we were there but it was nice. I ordered fish and chips and the fish was nice and hot but the breading could use some work because it just fell off. My friend also ordered the little shrimp and chops(forgot the name) but they were not deveined so she was turned off by that and didn’t eat them. But they had awesome fries with fry sauce! The clam chowder was delicious and I’m so glad I tried it! Yes, we were tourists and came right after the Tillamook Factory.

Not bad clam chowder. I had the fried crab cake and fries. Very good. First I’ve had. Friendly counter people.

Stumbled in by accident on our way from the cheese factory, only to be surprised by the most delicious crabmelt! A must try if you’re in the area and the owners/chefs were very gracious and entertaining!

Have always loved this place. Some of the best crab I’ve ever had. Until today. We drove a half hour down the coast from where we are staying to delight in their crab melt. One in our party has a gluten allergy, so we attempted to work with the counter waitress to find a solution that would work for her. We thought we had it, until she went to the manager with it, who sarcastically shouted out that there was no way to do that, and anyway, it’s not on the menu. The counter waitress, clearly embarrassed at her manager’s behavior, came back and told us it wouldn’t work. We then attempted to order a cheeseburger,(remove the bun, and you’re golden) despite it seeming beside the point at an awesome seafood place, and we were told they don’t have that, DESPITE it being on the menu. Wonderful food. Really awful rude manager. Maybe the owner could make a change?

At first we were somewhat skeptical. The place looked empty and run down when we drove up. Practically the entire menu is fried. My mother is gluten intolerant and about the only edible item for her was the clam chowder. However appearances can be decieving. Since they weren’t busy, the woman at the counter offered to grill some fish instead of frying it to accomodate our needs. We all ordered halibut and sat outside on the deck. When the food did come, it was good. I would recommend getting your food grilled instead if they’re able to. Overall, good place.

The food is good, albeit a bit pricey. The salmon was not too breaded and you can really taste the ocean! The clam chowder was thick and creamy but not too floury. A great fish shack and would definitely come here over the tourist trap across the road.

Really good, lightly breaded fish and chips, excellent Tatar sauce… A little overpriced in my opinion. Overall good experience!

This is a run down place but I didn’t care I wanted to try the worlds best chowder. My husband ordered the fish and chips and clam chowder, I ordered the crab melt. With two waters this came to $ 30. First impression a little iffy but they say good seafood isn’t cheap. Well the lady taking our order didn’t say that, she barely said a thing. Just gave us the impression that we were inconveniencing her. We were so disappointed. The best thing was the chowder but it wasn’t worlds best. My husband thought the fish and chips were soggy and bland. The crab melt was terrible. No flavor, no crab. It tasted like a greasy mayo mixture on bread. While we were eating they started closing up around us. Good seafood isn’t cheap and neither is bad. We’ll go to bay city next time,

A little misleading with the name. I expected some bbq with a name like Smokehouse. Other than seafood all they had was a burger and chicken tenders. Since I don’t eat seafood, settled for the burger which was OK, nothing special.

The Old Oregon Smokhouse along the highway is easy to miss if not for the large SEAFOOD sign on the curb. It’s also across from the tourist must-see, Tillamook Cheese(and Ice Cream) Factory. The place is a bit rundown, but do not have second thoughts… it is small but the staff are super friendly! You order from the counter and the lady cooks your order right away. They also sell steamed crab, fresh shrimps, oysters and scallops as well as live crab from the tank(you can’t miss the sign that reads«beware of attack crab»). They also carry bottled sauces, seasonings and hot sauces. The menu offers Clam Chowder, Fish n Chips, Crab Cakes, Fish Burger, Chicken Tenders, Crab Melt and more. We ordered the Clam Chowder, Fish n Chips and Crab Melt. The chowder was pretty good and so was the Fish n Chips(comes with 4 pcs and fries). The Crab Melt was very good… loaded with crab, cheese on a toasted roll. Yes, it was really good. We will definitely be back when in town!

My mom had been here before and recommended the crab melt. The way she had described it made it my sole mission to eat a crab melt from this place during our trip to the coast. So when we stopped by about noon and the guy working here said that the person bringing the crab was late and they wouldn’t have any for another hour/hour and a half, we left… and came back an hour and a half later, starving. The place is pretty divey and if it hadn’t been for the hype of the crab melt, I might have just gone elsewhere. It cost probably a buck or two more than I normally would have wanted to pay as well, but I guess it’s understandable when you are eating seafood that fresh and man, that melt really was as delicious as I had imagined, maybe even a little more so. The crab was smoked and mixed in a nice creamy sauce with herbs and then smothered with cheese on a piece of toasted bread. It was just a tad greasy with all of the cheese, but I loved it. Boy, it really hit the spot and I can’t think of anywhere that I’ve tried a better melt yet. It almost makes me not want to try a crab melt from any other place because I would compare it to this one and most likely be disappointed. I would probably drive through Tillamook on my next trip to the coast just to stop here for a bite – hopefully the crab would be delivered earlier though.

Great place for a casual and delicious seafood lunch. Two guys working here were friendly and food was freshly prepared but not too much of a wait. I had the salmon and chips($ 13.50) which came with four large pieces fried with a super light batter that really let the fish shine. It also came with a small cup of cole slaw(eh) and two delicious dipping sauces, a traditional tartar and a pinkish/orangish sauce that I’m in love with. I also tried the prawns and clam chowder and both were good. They were out of crab cakes and bread bowls during my visit :( Decent amount of seating, I believe two tables outside and a few more inside. Various hot sauces in buckets on the tables and grab a soda or bottle of water from the cooler for $ 1.25 a pop. Pay after you eat. Decent price for smoked salmon compared to other shops on the coast.

When you pull into the parking lot of this place, I urge you not to be put off by the partially lit«Open» neon sign, old deck with broken wood floors, and dive-bar feel of the interior. Also, don’t be put off by the cranky employees who are friendly one minute, serious the next. I tell you this because you may be tempted to leave without experiencing some of the great, fresh seafood. The sandwiches are great, the fried seafood is great, the prices are very fair. If you overcome your presumptions when you first pull in, you won’t be disappointed. Especially if you order the amazing Crab Melt Sandwich. You may be tempted to order a second one after your taste buds are done with their orgasm. Trust me, and you may see me here, because I will definitely be back.

It’s a pretty divey little joint, right across from the Tillamook Cheese Factory. The cafeteria at the Factory struck me as a bit too cafeteria-ish, so we scampered across the highway to try this place. Glad we did. It’s not the cleanest of places. There is just one person doing everything so I’m okay with letting that part slide. On to the food. I thought the Clam Chowder was great. All of the ingredients were in proportion to each other; not overwhelmed by potatoes. I had an Oyster Shooter. I don’t actually LIKE them but this one was good, nice and smokey. Be warned; you have 2 choices on how your food gets cooked– 1-deep-fried 2-see #1. I already told you it was a joint, so waddaya expect? WALL-O-HOTSAUCESWALL-O-HOTSAUCESWALL-O-HOTSAUCES!!! They have a great selection of sauces, many of which I have not seen before. They also sell fish that you can cook yourself. From now on, this is a required stop when I’m in the area.
