Pretty gross!!! I think some on here are confused. This is a small, greasy, take-out place, not a sit-down restaurant. So one would not have very high expectations of course. I just wanted to grab some Chinese food for my lunch break. I ended up calling the wrong place, I meant to call State Garden II just a block or so away, which is better. Disgruntled, I brought the food from this small, dirty-looking place back to my office. First thing I did was bite into the pork fried rice and immediately gagged. It tasted AWFUL. I can’t really describe the taste but it triggered my gag reflux immediately. Also, chicken tasted like fish. Then, I noticed that there was a hole in the top of my take-out container. Very unsanitary. I do not recommend!!!

I ordered from this place. The food was generally the way it should be. They weren’t the most considerate with their phone etiquette. The problem was where they didn’t clean their utensils properly. I asked if any of their meals have peanuts or peanut oil for one of the members in my party was deathly allergic to it. They said their Lo mein did, we ordered everything but the lo mein. Next thing you know, I had to take a trip to the ER. My one note for this place is, watch out if you have a peanut allergy, because you might be the victim of having remnants of it in your food.

Slow service. Unique concept. We went here to order hot pot. It was not what we expected. At other places the pot is built into the table; and in this case, a burner and pot was brought over to us. There were two types if broth — spicy and plain. Instead of ordering the type of meat you wanted, you got everything that lives on land and sea. The first course was the least appetizing — shrimp with heads, eyes glaring at us, odd balls of something, gelatinous uncooked fish, frozen oysters loaded with algae. The beef that followed, however was good. We didn’t touch the other mysterious meat that also was served. Other odd things like tarrow cake were not appetizing. The bok choy was fresh. Tofu was also fine. We left unsatisfied and disappointed. It took multiple requests for the check. This is too bad because when we had take out from here, the experience was much better.

*THEREARETWOGREATWALLSINCONNECTICUT* Even if only one in China. Check address. I can’t believe that these reviews are for the Walley Ave Great Wall, which is a serviceable take out only shop. The food at this place was decent, veggies were fresh and cooked properly. But the above descriptions seem to apply to the 67 Whitney Ave New Haven, CT place, which I assume is a real sit down joint. We were traveling and didn’t have time to backtrack so we just went for a meal at this one.

Sitting here with my coffee rehashing a great meal last night at Great Wall, one of the three best chinese restaurants in Ct. IMHO. We were surprised to find the dinning room relatively empty on Sat. night but then again, it was New Haven in Summer. We started with an assortment of our favorite dim sum, shui mai, sharks fin, tripe, pan fried dumplings, ect. to take the edge of 3 very hungry peoples appetites. Service was quick and very attentive, spearheaded by Michelle the owner who was, as always, friendly and sweet. After we took the edge off we proceeded to enjoy: chilled Tripe and Tongue in chili oil, Cumin Lamb with Peppers and Onions, Soy sauce Noodles and Walnut Shrimp Everything was excellent, the Walnut Shrimp had a lovely presentation with fresh asparagus and not overly sauced, the Cumin Lamb with just enough fresh chili’s to tingle the tongue, one of my son’s favorite the Soy Sauce Noodles, simply stir fried and so flavorful and finally my fav, Tripe and Tongue in chili oil and cilantro, both meats tender and full of flavor, striking a great balance between spicy and tasty. Lots of leftovers for lunch today and a pleasant memory of a delicious meal with my family, it just doesn’t get any better. Here’s their website address: Go and enjoy you, wont regret it.

I have to say the price is very reasonable. However, the food is not fresh, esp. seafood(lobster, crab, etc.)!!! My friends and I do not feel very good after having dinner there. Although I do not recommend to have regular meals there, Dim Sum on weekends is nice(of course, more pricey).

Really affordable Chinese food, that’s in between Royal Palace(best Chinese food in New Haven) and Ivy Noodle(cheapest Chinese food in New Haven) in terms of authenticness, deliciousness, and price. You can break down the restaurant into a few different categories: –Dim Sum-not amazing, but it’s the best by far in the area and it’s really really cheap(I’ve been a bunch, love dim sum, and have never paid more than $ 12 a person for a lot of food) –Bakery-BBQ pork buns for a dollar amongst other things(they have passable bubble tea too), great for grabbing something to go when you’re a little hungry –Lunch-they do a boxed lunch for around $ 5 which is a great deal –Dinner-the food turns more Americanized/greasy/MSG-heavy, not really a fan but a lot of my non-Asian friends love it(yes, general tso’s chicken can be quite a hit) –Hot Pot-I’ve never done the hot pot but a bunch of my friends love it The service is okay and the food satisfies my dim sum/Chinese food cravings. My rating is really all about the value, which is great.

We ordered take out from here last night, because I was in the mood for greasy, MSG-laden, food-court-esque Chinese food. It’s a hole in the wall next to a gas station; a small brick building I had barely ever noticed, so I figured it was a safe bet. Unfortunately, I didn’t get any of it. The closest thing to greasy Americanized food was the General Tso’s, which was still not even close to food-court. Instead, we were very pleasantly surprised — instead what we were expecting, we got a hybrid between authentic and Americanized. We had General Tso’s, pepper steak with tomatoes, and beef in oyster sauce. While the latter two were similar(in a light brown sauce), the veggies were fresh, abundant, not soggy, and the flavors were there. The only thing I was hoping for were thick steamed dumplings, and instead of the doughy wrapper, they were wrapped in wonton wrappers. Again, not what I was expecting, but definitely more authentic and quite delicious. We’ll definitely order from here again
