Took my wife to John Davenport’s for our 11th anniversary on a Sunday evening. The service was absolutely impeccable, as was the view(from the top of the Omni Hotel). However, the focus was definitely on the view — and not the food. I’m not saying the food was BAD, but neither my wife nor myself found it special. Honestly, if the restaurant was on ground level, I don’t think it’d still be business(especially in New Haven). Ultimately, I would not go back.

Its an inconvenience when you have to debate about accepting the mobile certificate number. Dont affiliate yourself with a company that promotes and uses an app if you wont accept the app. It just leads to an unpleasant experience.

It’s too bad that the best part of this place is the amazing view of New Haven. It was a Saturday night, and not all of the tables were taken, but the staff seemed as if they had never experienced a crowded restaurant before. We had a server and a hostess who rather than split up their share of tables, just took turns apologizing and asking the same questions without accomplishing anything. Everything looked and sounded good on the mine, but the execution was slightly better than a run-of-the-mill hotel restaurant. ½ hour for the first drink. After the entrees came, wanted to order a second drink, and made it a beer so not to back up the bartender. Still came after we had finished our mains. This being said, the view is incredible, and a great place to watch the sunset over downtown. But if you choose to do it, I recommend sitting a the bar for a beer and saving your food dollar for one of the many better choices in New Haven.

Sat at the bar. Ordered a special drink… Blackberry Whiskey Sour. Expected a whiskey sour with a splash of blackberry. It was heavy on the blackberry and not very good. Bar tender nicely took it off my tab. The lobster bisque has potential. Rich and flavorful soup but only 2 pieces of lobster in a 10 – 12 bite soup and not served hot enough. Left me wanting more.

The staff tonight were amazing. Very courteous, always ensuring we had the best quality of service. They even offered us a back room with a view for our party, but we didn’t want to hassle them so chose to sit out in the main room, which also had a view. The desserts we ordered were absolutely delectable, and they even made necessary arrangements for us because of dietary restrictions. All in all fantastic staff who made us feel very pampered and luxurious. I’ve been here several times and the quality is always this high. Will definitely keep coming back with friends!

Amazing food, amazing service topped off with an amazing view of new haven! I recommend going when it’s snowing. Eat some great food surrounded by floor to ceiling Windows. You can enjoy the beautiful snow while staying warm on the 19th floor.

My husband and I went here on Monday. The receptionist was nice as well as the waitress. The waitress was very nice and accommodating. Since there were not much of people in the restaurant she let us moved to a bigger table. Just a note: the two person table was really small. My husband booked this restaurant mainly because of the view, however, it was so dark that we didn’t see anything. We were expecting that we would see a lot of Christmas lights but we were disappointed. We concluded that it is better to make a reservation during day time if you want to see a view. We had grilled flatbread for starter. I liked it, but my husband wasn’t a fan of it. I ordered NY strip and I liked it. My husband ordered candillo de salmon which was not part of their main menu, it was part of the flavors of the world = destination chile menu which they were offering for limited time only, in the end he didn’t like it. I tasted it and it was a bit salty for my taste. We ordered warm brownie sundae for dessert but the brownie wasn’t warm at all, it was cold as the ice cream. In conclusion, food was just ok but the server was good!

Had the funniest experience here. I ordered a cabernet. After many attempts to find a wine that was«in stock» it turned out they were out of all red wine. I ended up 20 minutes later with a small glass of tequila, no mix for margarita. There apparently was a missing key to a liquor closet. The loud banging in the kitchen and lack of service made us cancel our apps and when we went to pay our overpriced $ 32(for two beverages) no one in the whole restaurant could break a fifty dollar bill. Very odd restaurant???

This review is for Sunday Brunch. Food was good. Not great, but good. They seemed to have a problem refilling the food stations(lots of empty trays), they ran out of plates twice, we had to seek out our server for something as simple as orange juice, coffee and milk. All this and it wasn’t even too busy(many empty tables). The amount of food was mediocre — standard scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, omelets, potatoes and quiche. There was a bread, fruit, salad and dessert table. Average variety, but cost was $ 16 a person, which is a little on the high side in my opinion — especially given we had to pay $ 20 per vehicle to park(which is NOT validated, as a previous review claimed). The view is amazing though — I will say that. You can see Yale, LI Sound and Long Island across the sound. I might go back but there are far better dining/brunch options in New Haven. Might be nice for a happy hour drink.

Great place for a weekend brunch. Their homemade jams and nut butters are sinfully delicious! I really haven’t tasted anything like them before! From homemade almond butter to blackberry jam, the choices were ideal and spreading some on a scone was delightful. They also had whipped honey which was so decadent. Their omelet station was great as well. They had a great steel cut oatmeal bar chock full of toppings such as dried fruit and nuts. They also had gluten free breads which weren’t too great though. The service was exceptional and coffee and tea was included. I am only giving 4 stars because their meats(bacon and sausage) looked a little dismal and they didn’t have turkey bacon/sausage options. The view was remarkable– 360 degrees of New Haven county. The ambiance was lovely as well. A great place to take out of towners or even when you feel like indulging on a Saturday or Sunday.

Enjoyed the most amazing food/service/ambience while at John Davenport’s recently. Shrimp cocktail sauce had just the right amount of horseradish and the shrimp itself was fresh and meaty. This paired with a ½ priced bottle of wine on a Monday night and a warm lobster roll(have never seen so much lobster meat on a roll before… and for only $ 18!). Four nights later and I still cannot get the flavors out of my head. Service was supreme. Very pleased.

I took my family to Father’s Day brunch here recently and it was a wonderful experience. The food choices were better than ever expected and the atmosphere looking out over New Haven was spectacular. If you go to the top of the Omni hotel for brunch you will not be disappointed.

Me and my wife had a gift certificate to the restaurant for about 2 years and we finally decided to use it. The restaurant ambience is very nice and you have a great view of new haven. We got two apps that were ok. I had the shrimp cocktail and wife has lobster bisque. Both were decent but nothing special. For our meals my wife got the panini and I had the filet. Her sandwich was dry and didn’t have a lot of flavor. My steak was over cooked and very dry. It was so over cooked they felt bad and offered us a free desert. With our meals we split a side of lobster mac and cheese that was excellent. I also think everything is way over priced. Luckily we had gift certificate but if I had to pay full price for that meal I would be pissed. One good thing is they validate parking. We will not be going back. I don’t know how this place has so many positive reviews.

New menu is a winner and they really have turned things around. It annoys me that they always try to seat us away from the window despite there being open places(and our reservation request) but if you insist they’ll accommodate. Warning: the Caesar salad has full anchovies so, if you’re like my wife and are grossed out by that, order something else. I guess they should dice them up or something but I like it. I wish they still had the cookie dough spring rolls but their current desserts are pretty good. I will say that service is slow: the kitchen takes a long time to put the food out but, if you have an hour and a half, it can be a very pleasant experience.

Went for brunch with a large group and ended up being a small group– they still gave us a private room with a view which was super sweet! Brunch is a buffet. Lots of deliciousness. Omelette station, carving station, amazing cheese board spread. We can’t wait to go back!

Unreal. Graduation weekend. They knew it would be crowded. They had a special menu. It was the worst meal I have ever had. 2 ½ hours for dinners come out and they were all cold. All sent back. The food and beverage manager was a joke. It was literally The worst meal I’ve had in decades. Utterly. Awful.

To be so fancy and swanky our food arrived cold, delivered by an indifferent server who obviously had better things to do. I’m here for a wedding down from the Hampton ’ s where breakfast nooks are plenty, warm and satisfying.

Excellent breakfast buffet if you are heading to Yale or otherwise in New Haven. The views are also great from the 19th floor. Buffet is not the largest I have ever hada la the Wynn in Vegas; however, the breakfast is good and the omelet station gets the job done.

They had a regular menu, and then they had a paper menu inside of it, that was dare I say ‘French,’ however, not really sure what the purpose was. The type of food for the place is considered American. The two main dishes we ordered off the menu were(Duck with fruit chutney, and Chicken with fruit chutney. Also, some of the items on the regular menu were also on the French menu. The service was not great. I felt like the waitress was trying to be overly nice, and kept saying ‘I don’t want to rush you’, but she clearly kind of was rushing us. It was a Monday night with half price bottles of wine which was a nice perk. However, the manager had to get the bottle from the back, and it took about 10 minutes or more to bring to our table. The food was expensive for what it was and the presentation was okay. I ordered a side of the basil mashed potatoes. They were very good. The ambiance was lacking a little bite.. The tables were nicely set up with great views. I would certainly come back here again even though it was not the best place I have been to, it is pretty good for New Haven

We had a nice time here recently celebrating a friends birthday. It was an evening affair and the views were spectacular(and nicer than New Haven in the daylight). We had a large table right by the wall to wall windows. The lights of New Haven were highly visible from so high up in the Omni Hotel. Nice touches, like fresh cut roses, added to the elegant ambience. I had dinner earlier in the night so I ordered the butter lettuce salad with candied pecans, roquefort cheese, and radishes dressed in a light truffle vinaigrette. This was a delightful salad. I also enjoyed a few glasses of champagne. Our server was fantastic. She was attentive without being overbearing and she made great recommendations. She(and the restaurant) even gave the birthday girl a free glass of champagne when she passed on dessert. I hope to come again soon so I have an opportunity to try more of the food.
