There pizza is always amazing! I can’t understand the ranking of pizza places here in Connecticut. How BAR could be ranked higher than this place is so beyond me! This is a true authentic pizza shop. No gimmicks, real ingredients, delicious combos, and genuine staff! I’ve had: –fresh garlic and broccoli – amazing! –sausage – great! Exactly what sausage pizza should be. –bacon, garlic, broccoli – BESTONE! It should be noted the crust is what makes this the best pizza in downtown new haven(behind pepes but only because of their white clam). If pepes claim recipe was put on this crust… Oh. My. God.

I grew up in this neighborhood. I absolutely Love this Pizza. I live in Arizona right now. But whenever I think of what I miss the most about the Elm City, Howe Street Pizza House comes to mind. First stop I always make when I visit home is to Pizza House. Hell Yeeeeaaaahhhh!!! I wish I had a large pepperoni and sausage Pizza House pizza RIGHTNOW.

Solid pizza somewhere in between Greek and chain-style pizza(if that’s even a variety). The crust is relatively thin and relatively less buttery than you’d expect for the style. It’s plenty good, if standard, I suppose. That said, it’s massively overpriced for what it is, and I can’t in good conscience recommend it over the other pizza options in the city, and probably not even over Domino’s(thin crust). I doubt that I will return.

… do not forget your number! — or the funny older man will have a conniption fit lol excellent & best pizza in new haven. The rest of this review I’m only writing because Unilocal said it was a «little on the short side» and they assume I’m a food critic and want to write a exposè on Pizza House! The Pizza is good … End of story !

Been here a few times already, just for pizza slices(although the menu beyond pizza is rather limited). Basically it’s middle-of-the-road pizza, not awful, but OK. Today they were a bit slow to throw the slices in the oven, waited about 5 minutes before they decided to do so(think they forgot I was standing there waiting).

I’m from NY originally and the pizza there is amazing. Now I live in CT and it’s hard to find a good slice. I was losing hope of finding a good pizza joint but I finally found it. The pizza is amazing: perfect amount of sauce and cheese and crispy crust. Great waiters. Highly recommend.

Great pie! As another poster said, different from Modern, Pepe’s, et al A favorite of New Havenites. Closed Sundays. The owner is as old as Methuselah, a bit cranky but that’s the beauty of this spot! Who wouldn’t be cranky after 40+ years of standing on your feet for 12+ hours/day, 6 days a week! Gotta respect him!

I came here with a friend on a Friday night before going to the cinemas, after suffering through 5 final exams in one week. We had never eaten here, but were encouraged by the Unilocal reviews. We arrived around 7pm and found the place open, warm, and with a few families enjoying meals. We ordered the house specialty, which was a pizza with several topping including onions, green bell peppers, mushrooms, pepperoni, etc. The pizza was made well: good crust, good toppings. Yummy and not overwhelming. Verdict: Good local pizza. I’d return!

Best dish style pizza in the area. It’s not for someone on a diet but the taste is amazing. Better than Pepe’s(yes I said better than Pepe’s).

Thicker, sturdier crust than most other shops and their dough and sauce are made from scratch. Cheese straight from Wisconsin. These are people who love pizza.

I typically don’t like Greek style pizza, but I actually enjoyed the pizza at Pizza House. The crust wasn’t super thick, and it was nice and crispy without being burnt. It had a good flavor, and overall it was much better than expected. I much prefer thin crust, New Haven style pizza, but this was good and I would definitely come back. If I liked this style pizza I would give them more stars, but since I’m just not that into it I can’t justify more than three. Worth checking out, especially if Greek style pizza is your thing!

Pizza is extremely thing, soggy, and the crust on their pizzas always come out burnt. The sauce tastes like ketchup and the cheese has a chewiness to it.

We all know New Haven is home to some of the most amazing thin crust brick oven pizza on the planet. Call me weird but sometimes, I am in the mood for something a little different. That is when I go to Pizza House. Their pizza is not typical New Haven style but rather thick crust Greek-style pizza. I am not usually a fan of Greek pizza but Pizza House gets it right. Not too much sauce, plenty of toppings, well-done cheese and crust(I love the little toasty brown bubbles!). I have tried various combinations here including the house special but my favorite toppings are their pepperoni, sausage, and mushrooms(I usually get some combo of two). I also find it is best to not eat Pizza House pizza piping hot, let it sit for just a few minutes to set and it all melds together in the most delicious way. The car ride home to my house is the perfect amount of time! I can understand the greasy complaints in some comments — I ate in-house once and when the pizza is hot out of the oven there is a lot of oil on the surface. I think this is mainly from the pepperoni so if you don’t want grease, don’t get the pepperoni! I tried to eat it piping hot and the taste wasn’t the same. First time I have ever preferred a pizza to go… Anyway, do not come here expecting New Haven style pizza or you will be sorely disappointed. Most of the staff is pleasant but Gus(owner) can be pretty ornery. I think he is just tired of dealing with drunks and some of the neighborhood kids, and people moaning about this place being cash only(I have seen it when I pick up my pizza and I would get annoyed too). He is always there so maybe he is just tired in general! I just lay on the«yes, please» and«thank you, sir» thickly and I always get a big smile back from him. Manners go along way, people.

I don’t often write reviews, but I felt compelled to write this one: DONOTGOTOPIZZAHOUSE. Why not? Oh, let me count the ways… 1) Surly and rude cashier 2) Overpriced($ 13 for a medium 1-topping?!?) 3) Thoroughly mediocre quality. Flavorless, brittle crust, rubbery cheese, bland toppings, generic sauce. 4) No slices, except during lunch. This is in contrast with literally every other pizza place in downtown New Haven. There is no reason to go to this place. Instead, I recommend Brick Oven – just one block away! – which is better in every imaginable way(better quality, people, and prices). Hell, even go to Papa Johns. Dominos. Pizza Hut. BUTNOTPIZZAHOUSE.

After a night of imbiding at my cousin’s wedding, the princess and I stumbled into the hotel and demanded the the hostess provide us with information about food. She handed us one menu, initially dismayed at the choices, she told us to trust her and sent us on our way. We were not dissapointed. Pizza house delivered right to our hotel room the most delicious steak and cheese grinder along with an amazing brick oven pizza. Grinder was packed with meat, cheese, fixin’s, piping hot, greasy, and again, tasty. Pizza was awesome. Spinach, feta, on a crust that can only come from a brick oven. This place was excellent, but it’s no Pepe’s.

Since relocating to New Haven there are two things I am keenly aware of… actually maybe three. One, there are a lot of huge crows here. What up with that? Two, running for the MetroNorth train is a real olympic worthy sport. And three, New Haven just might be the best town for pizza outside of my hometown of Brooklyn(and maybe Rome) but I’ve only been once so as the originators I had to give props. Anyway I love their pizza. We usually order a medium special. That comes with pepperoni, sausage, onions, peppers and mushrooms. Every time I mean EVERYTIME we’ve had it, it is perfect. The crust is the same. Consistently crisp, never soggy and the toppings are plentiful. Great sauce too. From the outside you would not know how great the food is. It probably hasn’t changed in 30 years but who cares. I’m going for great food not décor. Go!!! Go now. :) Oh yeah, I like the squares too ya’ll.

This place is classic, good pizza. The owner still works the counter, even though he’s got to be older than 80. Now that’s a man who loves his job. The place doesn’t look like anything special, but it’s what in the oven that counts. When I don’t want to wait long lines at Pepe’s, Sally’s, or Modern, I go to Pizza House. It’s a good 4th place. I also like how they cut the pizza into squares instead of slices. The flavor is memorable and always spot on. The price point is good for what you get and it never changes. I love supporting small businesses that are dedicated to what they do. I will keep coming back to Pizza House.

Been going to this place since I was a kid. Shoutout to Gus who has been there all this time. I MUST go whenever I am in town, sometimes 2 or 3 times. It’s very different than the pizza served at Modern, Pepe’s or Sally’s. I think that’s why I like it. Those little squares of cheesy and saucy goodness make my taste buds do a happy dance.
