The food was okay. The service was slow, despite only a few people being in the place at the time. The décor and music were good.

Best diner in this Queens/LI area hands down. Old school vibe, and it’s all about the food. Never had anything here that wasn’t tasty. They even make a great Bloody Mary.

Do not waste your time, health, and money here. They can’t even get the basics of breakfast right. My friend that I was with described the corn beef hash specifically as follows: «It looks, tastes, and smells as though the cook took a shit on the plate and then the waitress served it to us with a straight face and a smile» Needless to say, we sent it back and told the manager it was spoiled. My French toast, another basic elementary diner breakfast item, was also NOT cooked, literally had parts of it that were regular white bread with nothing on it, and the parts that were«normal» were just mushy soggy bread. They also don’t even cook their own bacon, they just use the gross reheated type. Also would like to add that horrendous quality of food was not a reflection of the waitress, she was just doing her job.

The food is good, but I am compelled to post a warning. If you have food allergies, you may have to think twice about visiting, especially if you’re ordering takeout. Specifically, cautiously, kindly and repeatedly requesting for a certain item that you are very allergic to not to be included — does not suffice, because somehow it will still be in your food order. Also, this place is the only dining establishment that punishes you for not taking up more of their time, because when you order takeout the portions are MUCH smaller than they are when you dine in house. The issue is they still charge you the same — although the portions differ. Approach at your own risk. Might I add, when you dine in house, the servers and busboys are extremely nice and professional!

I come here often and it’s good breakfast(terrible lunch) but today I asked for a larger booth and was told no they’re are for bigger parties. I could understand if there weren’t at least 10 larger booths available…

I firmly believe that there are hits and misses at every restaurant and dining establishment. In this case, I think I had one of these instances. It breaks my heart not to give diner food a better rating, but it is what it is for this particular time. The coleslaw that was given to us was good, so I had high hopes that this would be a great dining fair experience… We came here for dinner and ordered the fried calamari appetizer. First wrong choice. The batter of the fried calamari was completely unseasoned. I never put salt on my food and I had too in this case. The marinara dipping sauce wasn’t bad, but, how can you not season the flour? Seems like an elementary mistake. I ordered the buffalo burger as my entrée, and the buffalo burger is not what I got. When the server brought it to my table he kept calling it the ‘deluxe’ burger and I didn’t claim it as mine until every one else had their dishes. There was not one shred of evidence that this burger had anything to do with buffalo seasoning/sauce. The burger was a plain burger with onion rings on top and tomato and lettuce on the side. No buffalo sauce or anything. I’m too shy to send back food so I stuck with it, just adding a ton of ketchup to compensate for the dry burger. One redeeming quality was the fact that I had subbed our regular fries for waffle fries. And their waffle fries were fantastic. In such, if you could imagine a perfect waffle fry and what it would be like, that’s what these were. On the upside, my dining guests, my sister and her boyfriend both enjoyed their meals. I don’t think I will come here for a long time in fear of choosing and receiving the wrong food.

Coming from Richmond, Virginia, I went to some weird places here in the area. However, when I walked inside this diner, I felt like I was home. The hostess and waiters treat you like family. Their food arrived extremely fast and it tasted fantastic. Whenever I’m around, I’m coming back for sure.

Yuck! We came here for breakfast and ordered the basics the corn beef hash looked like dog food and tasted horrible. The best way to describe it was take the insides of a taco and add a bucket of salt and throw some eggs on top. All I tasted was onions and god knows what else was in there. My boyfriend ordered a side of bacon that looked like it was sitting out as a diner sample since the diner originally opened 300 years ago. Also last but not least what kind of diner doesn’t offer sweeteners with their coffee? This is 2014 that’s a necessity you already know this. Finally the most annoying thing above all else was the Spanish soap opera going on in the background I do not need to hear that at 8 am thanks though.

Nevermind… false alarm! I got a stomach ache the other night the same day I ate here, but it turned out the ache was caused by dinner I’d ordered delivered from some local Chinese restaurant, and mind you, it was a healthy vegan tofu kung pao type dish!!! Oh did I feel sick. But anyway, I ate at the New Hyde Park Diner yet again today for lunch(October 7th) and it was fine! Never felt sick after eating here and doubt I ever will. I have no issues with this diner, always get a booth, they have jukeboxes, and it’s clean, service is attentive, food solid, I have no complaints. And that’s my final word on the NHP Diner. Others may have had issues here, but not me. Definitely one of the better(and few are around here) old school diners in the entire area. And it’s decidedly better than that diner over in Bellerose on Jericho Turnpike, even though that one is ok, too. I think this one is better for sure.

DONOTEATHEREUNLESSYOUWANTFOODPOISONING!!! My fiancé and I both ordered a well-done burger and ended up getting food poisoning 8 hours later. This was the worst pain I’ve ever felt in my life!!! I was sick for 4 days and missed work and almost ended up in the hospital. The meat was contaminated!!! I know for a fact that I got food poisoning from here because I vomited a piece of pink meat that my stomach could not digest and I did not eat anything earlier that day. I spoke to the manager and he didn’t give a damn! He offered to give us 2 free burgers on the house. Why the hell would I EVER want to eat another burger here when it got us sick in the first place!!! Why the hell would I ever wanna eat there after everything we’ve been through!!! I don’t care about the money. It’s the principle! He didn’t even apologize, but instead acted like he didn’t give a damn. It’s disgusting how these people only want your money! I WILLNEVER, EVER, EVEREATHEREAGAIN!!! This is for your own safety. Do not eat here! Food poisoning is the worst! The food is not fresh. These people do not care about your safety, they only want your money! They have been reported before. Do your research! I would’ve rather went to McDonald’s and ate fast food than to have had this happen! I spent over $ 50 here and ended up with the worst pain in my life! If I would’ve just went to McDonald’s and spent $ 10, I would’ve been fine. It just goes to show you how these people have no morals or care for their customers. For your own safety, avoid this place and to everyone else who got sick here, make sure you report it to 311 so they can investigate this dirty place!

Our favorite diner in the area. My wife and I have gone there many times, encompassing breakfast, lunch and dinner. We call it «our diner». The diner is always spotlessly clean. And the staff are very friendly, welcoming and accommodating. Over the years we’ve gotten to know most of the employees, and they go out of their way, such as changing items shown on the menu, a sign that the food is freshly made. My wife loves their broiled fish, which they will prepare any way she wants. I’m partial to the fish cakes(home made on premises). Omelets are delicious, especially with their sweet potato fries. And for dinner we are sure to leave room for desert, decaf coffees and share a huge fresh chocolate chip cookie.(When by myself I go for rice pudding or one of the pies.) The serving sizes are very generous, they pack the leftovers, with enough food for another meal at home. One last point — the diner is handicap accessible(which is very important for me). Outside there is a long ramp. And inside are wheelchair accessible rest rooms. They renovated several years ago, and definitely took ADA compliance very serious. So, if you want to come to «our diner», I’m sure you will find it a satisfying experience.

I have been coming to this diner for many years. They recently had renovations done a few years ago and the place looks great! This is your pretty standard diner with pretty standard food. The inside is really nice. The tables are all new and comfortable. Everything is clean and kept well which makes for a good eating environment. The food is also pretty good. Nothing outstanding about it, but nothing to complain about either. I usually order breakfast from here so my review is based off their breakfast items, which are always good. The coffee is ok. I am a big coffee drinker and it’s not the best cup I’ve ever had, but it does the job. The service is also very fast and inviting. You never feel out of place in this diner, they treat everyone the same. It’s a nice place to go for something different. If you go, you will not be dissapointed.

This place just became our new favorite diner. Beautiful huge diner, classic american chrome, with bar, booths and tables. Love the look of this place. Went with my husband and 15 month old baby. Very friendly staff, was given a high chair straightaway that was clean and easy to use. Being early in the morning we ordered breakfast, was very happy to see an option for wholewheat pancakes on the menu, don’t think I’ve ever seen those available before at a diner. I love them, prefer over regular pancakes. We ordered ham and scrambled eggs, home fries and toast. bacon, scrambled eggs home fries and toast . blueberry wholewheat pancakes. DELICIOUS. Really, really good. I always think you can tell if a diner is good by their homefries and these were great. I’ll also definitely go back for the wholewheat pancakes. Coffee and a juice is also included with the breakfast. Juice isn’t fresh squeezed but I don’t mind about that to be honest. Only reason I deducted one star was because they don’t have real maple syrup(it comes as breakfast syrup in tear-open packets) and the coffee was kinda bad. Other than that, we’ll be going back here again and again.

THISPLACESUCKS. for sixty dollars I expect edible food. Wife had hot opened roast beef sandwich. It was hot and opened. Two slices of meat and Franco American gravy is not worth $ 16. The mashed potatoes had the consistency of apple sauce. It means they were frozen before microwaving. The mixed vegetables were gray. Nuff said. An order of buffalo wings, French fries, cheeseburger deluxe, roast beef sandwich, three cokes and a chocolate milk should not add up to $ 51. If you have a choice, try omega on lakeville or triple crown on Jericho. WHITECASTLEGIVESBETTERVALUE.

Nice looking diner. Place was empty when we came. They were closing at midnight but weren’t rude about us eating right before they closed. Tried the baked clam shells, the calamari, and waffle fries. All were good. Topped it off with a banana split sundae. Yummy.

I went here with a friend last night and had a terrible experience. Across hte board everything was bathed in salt. I order matzoh ball soup as a standard in almost every diner I go to. This place the broth was«dirty» looking and it tasted like salt water. The ball itself was mediocre at best. I ordered another one of my usual’s, the eggplant parm. Again, overly salty and it fell apart into a mushy crumble of fried I-don’t-even-know-what. My friend had a sandwich which she said was alright and from my side looked fairly good and a caesar salad. One bite and she says«it tastes like a salt dressing» I had some and felt the same way. When I called over the waiter(who was not very attentive throughout the meal to begin with– in an almost empty place) and said I’d like to send it back and that my food was also over-salted and he told me to speak to the manager and pointed across the restaurant.(I was shocked, to tell a customer to get up from a meal to GO and speak to the manager) I gave him a look and he realized and told the bus boy to get the manager. He then asked me if I would like to take the eggplant parm to go which I did not understand at all. When the manager came over and I told him he tried to tell me that’s how casear salad is made and then just to the salad and walked away. He did not even comment on the fact that I told him my food was not good. He did not ask my friend if she would like something instead and he was curt and rude. The waiter again came over and asked me if I would like to take my mostly untouched food to which I told him that a) he was not listening to a word I said and b) the food was terrible. I will never go back to this place. To summarize: Very salty poorly prepared food. The worst service in town.
