Food is very good, service is very slow. It seems they are popular for takeout, which gets priority over dine-in customers. Try the 2 person dinner special, $ 35(app, 2 entrees, rice/naan, dessert)

I ordered a delivery from this place today. This place had the weirdest mullingatawny soup, although it was not bad tasting it was a disappointment. The chicken vindaloo here was a horror. The the chicken chunks were huge and too many, whatever little curry was there was mostly oil. Also rice in aforementioned soup :/

This is the worst Indian food I’ve had in NYC. I just ordered delivery of the following items: — 2 Rotis — One Chana Masala — One Dal Baluchis — One Papri Chaat The Chaat is basically chickpeas, papri and shit ton of tamarind sauce. No yogurt, no red/green chutney, no sev. Like wtf? I could make better chaat. The Chana Masala tastes like salt. That’s it. Nothing else. Dal Baluchi’s is edible and I’ll leave it at that. I would not recommend this place. Having lived near the Baluchi’s on the west side(where the food is amazing and their Chana Masala is unparalleled to anything I’ve ever had — except for the ones in India), I thought this would be worth while to try out. Oh and the Rotis. It’s literally cardboard. Do these people taste their food before it goes out? Do they honestly eat the same food? I highlight doubt it. I wouldn’t serve this to my family much less sell it for $$. NOPE. Save your $$ and go to either Papadam and if they’re full, then go to Om(in that order). I haven’t even finished my food yet and writing this review. Half tempted to call them and send the remaining food back for a partial refund.

Great Indian cuisine in the upper east side. Very fancy decorations. Good food with super 50% discount on lunch. Very good price.

I placed an order through seamless @ 8:12, 9:05 I called. They said they didn’t serve the calamari that was listed on seamless. Suggestion, update seamless menu. I was told my delivery would be another 20mins. 10:00pm I called again. The bumbling attendant(Abraham) said your food is ready. Ok where is it? It isn’t here. 10:30, over two hours later it has arrived. Oh it also didn’t include the naan.

Pros — food was tasty, sort of romantic setting Cons– slow in service due to large take-out business. No alcohol which is not bad if you know ahead of time, we didn’t. Bathroom is thru the kitchen and down in the basement-not for me. Seems a bit more con than pro however food was tasty and prices are reasonable.

I wish I could give them zero for their unprofessional behavior. Had to wait for 2 hours and still did not get the food. Highly unprofessional… Never visit or order from here.

We dined in here recently it was great! They were doing a special, order 2 entrees get 1 free. And it’s BYOB. I don’t know why more people don’t eat in here. The décor is awesome and it’s very cozy. We will be back.

So after a week and a half, I was finally refunded. I’m happy they did reach out to me on Unilocal to do so and apologized for this mishap. Will I give Baluchi’s another try? Maybe not, but I am just happy that the restaurant took responsibility for its actions.

I order the Chicken Vindaloo and lentil soup and both are flavorful. I often order on Seamless and pick up my order and the staff is so friendly. If you’re in the area, I’d definitely recommend eating at the restaurant because: 1. They redecorated the restaurant and it looks significantly more inviting. It’s tiny, but comfortable. 2. It’s BYOB. 3. If you order two entrees, the third is free.

1.5 stars. Not the worst food, but I can cook better than the food they served here. and that’s saying something. Quite disappointed with our experience. We didn’t mind too much the fact the service was slow, the place was crammed, the single chant music playing infinitely on loop or that it was overpriced… Ultimately it’s the unauthentic flavorless taste that we didn’t like. The key to all Indian food is that the vegetables are to be well cooked. The gravy was off too. The potatoes seemed stale too. The only thing I liked about the place was the décor. I live in the next block and I’m certainly not going here again unless I hear better. Baluchi’s, I thank you for inspiring me to cook more often !

The dependable Indian«chain» restaurant. Enjoy the quiet, intimately lit atmosphere. Always order the simple chicken tikka masala, samosas and naan when we go with folks who aren’t used to Indian fare.

Wow. Great meal and pleasant service from Jessie. A little papadum, with vegetable samosa, onion Kulcha and seek kabob. They let us bring in our own beer and were very discrete about it. Intimate warm attitude with soothing music. One caveat, it’s hard for me to read the menu by candlelight. I recommend to all. With their menu, you can play the short game with dozens of appetizer choices or main courses like biryanis, curries and a solid bread lineup. Take your favorite lady here.

This tiny little restaurant on the UES is a solid place to get Indian food. The restaurant is tiny so there was only one waiter when my friends and I came here for dinner on a Monday night. They have a «50% off entrée» special during the week which sounds like a good deal but when you figure that their baseline cost if $ 18 – 20 per entrée, they end price is about as much as you should really be spending at an Indian restaurant. I’ve tried many of the curries here — the vindaloo curry, tikka masala, madras — and they’re all solid. I have no complaints but I don’t think this place is particularly better than anywhere else. One nice thing is that our waiter accidentally brought us 5 entrees when we ordered only 4 — the owner let us keep the extra entrée as it was the chef’s mistake. I thought that was very nice. A few downsides of this place: 1. The Seamless and Grub Hub delivery guys are constantly trekking in and out right through the middle of restaurant which can be a little distracting(and odorous). 2. They place the exact same«traditional Indian song» on a loop about 50 times during your dinner — I went here 2 weeks ago and still have that dang song in my head. 3. If you have to use the bathroom, you will literally have to walk through the kitchen, next to the flaming hot tandoori chicken, down to the basement that appears less-than-sanitary, to a disgusting teensy, tiny bathroom.

My wife(who loves Indian cuisine) and I went to Baluchi’s on a Sunday evening. The restaurant was tiny and there was only seating for at most 20 people in the dining area. If you don’t like a small space while you’re eating, then you won’t be happy with the configuration and size of the dining area. Also contributing to the cramped quarters is the constant movement of delivery dudes in and out of the dining area. The restaurant does a lot of delivery business so it’s understandable, but the dining area is already small to begin with. Additionally, the restaurant was pumping some Indian toons, which wasn’t so loud that it ruined dinner, but the toons combined with the small dining space and delivery guys was a little annoying. My wife and I are pretty easygoing, so these things didn’t bother us too much, but I feel it’s worth noting. Our server was very amiable and helpful, no issues at all. Samosas as an appetizer was a good choice, not the best we’ve had but far from the worst. My wife ordered the lamb rogan josh, and I had the lamb korma. The rogan josh was heavy on the tomato to the point where it was overpowering, and as a result I would not recommend. The lamb korma was pretty tasty, and the high point of the meal for us. We also ordered wheat naan and rice, which were both pretty average. Overall, it wasn’t a bad choice, and if you dine in you get 50% off your entrees. Total bill for two was $ 29. So with that price tag, it’s hard to complain. But if you’re looking for Indian cuisine that is going to blow your mind, look further, because I’d submit that your mind will be quite unaltered after you walk out of Baluchi’s.

Baluchi’s is a chain of restaurants with several locations around the city. They are a safe choice for decent quality Indian food. I have tried a few of their entrees, like the chicken saagwala and chicken tikka. The entrees are a decent size, full of taste, and mostly in the $ 10 to $ 15 range. However, I have been spoiled by better quality Indian places — including some that offer all you can eat buffets.

When walking by the restaurant, there was a sign with 50% off entrees for table service — with most Indian entrees being $ 18 – 20 a plate, I thought«what a great deal!» What I didn’t know is that they also took 50% off the spice, flavor, and portion size per entrée as well. It’s not that the meal was bad necessarily, or the atmosphere either for that matter(though the raging Indian music blasting through the speakers did start to get on my nerves), it’s that the food was bland and barely worth the 50% off eat in special. To order delivery from Baluchi’s and pay full price would be down right criminal.

The service is awesome, the place looks lovely and intimate And the food is fabulous!!! For the main corse I really liked the chicken tikka masala and the spinach with the tofu is delicious, the samosas are very good for starters. There is 50% off for the main dishes if your sitting in the restaurant, so it’s a perfect deal. I will be back and would like to try some more dishes.

The definition of a frustrating delivery food experience Ordered online. 30 minutes later my food was delivered. I was at first pretty happy about this as I expected a longer wait considering it was pouring out and I’m sure a lot of people were being lazy on this ugly Saturday. Except when I was given the bag it was hella light. I immediately inspected it and asked to see the receipt and yup, the receipt listed the Baluchi special(entrée and app) and a side of Masala fried potatoes and in the bag, nothing but the taters. Delivery guy looked apologetic and said give the restaurant a call. Did exactly that with no success the first 2 tries(phone just kept ringing and ringing then would just hang up after about 5 minutes). Grr. Meanwhile I’m eating the Masala fried potatoes aka french fries with a light seasoning. No I didn’t know they’d be french fries either. Finally get through, explain the situation, have to tell the my order verbally as well, am told it would be remedied shortly. 45 minutes later, food is back and the same delivery guy is looking a bit sheepish and hands me the rest of my food(least he was smiling, I hate dour looking delivery guys, they should go kick rocks). But hurrah, after a 1:15 wait I’m pretty damn hungry. Tear the bag open and notice… Paratha? I ordered the holy grail of indian bread, garlic naan, friggin wankers, w/e, I’ll eat it but not what I requested. Chicken Kastoori kabab(app) — pretty tasty, moist, good flavor, batter consistency a bit odd and falls off pretty quickly, but overall not bad. Veda Goat Curry — Requested Very spicy in my original online order, reiterated this when they had me repeat my order to them over the phone. Spice level was about a 1 out of 10, maybe. Very saddening. I like my Indian food to make me sweat. Curry itself, not bad(I eat pretty good Indian on the reg, so I didn’t have high expectations from this place as its on the UES and it’s a chain). Oh, and prior to ordering, I actually called to ask if there were bones in the goat and was told no. A bold faced lie as there were indeed bones a plenty. I didn’t expect a ton, but you failed to meet even that expectation. Someone needs to do a bit of operational review hereeeeee.

I ordered the chicken vindaloo & chicken korma both very delicious. The vindaloo was def. VERY spicy but I thoroughly enjoyed it! The mango lasse was yum– The cauliflower w/potatoe was very good. I am a huge saag paneer fan but I thought it only okay. Ate everything w/garlic naan & rice the service was great and our waiter was super helpful and answered all my questions. I love the ambiance and the music is awesome. Topped everythinh off w/a delicious(best I’ve had so far) dessert(cheese w/white sauce). Def. Coming back!
