Great bike store and service. I brought in my old Cannondale Lefty that I hadn’t used in three years, whose hydraulic brakes needed to be bled. They set up an appointment for drop off. They were precise in letting me know job was completed and gave me a general once over to the whole bike without me asking for it and without even tacking anything on to the bill.
A few weeks later my rear brake went dead again, they took in the bike promptly rebled the brake and didn’t charge me a cent. Class act. No surprise that L&J’s has been around so long.

For sure the best bike shop in the city. The mechanics are awesome and professional, salespersons know about bicycles, they are listening to and give me always the right solution or products. The shop is clean, beautiful and has a lot of selection of products. The staff is really friendly: I Love Bicycles NYC !!

Update: The shop owner immediately contacted me and expressed his concern. His professionalism was top notch and he issued me a full refund. While I still think the initial charge was unfair; the shop’s attention to my concern was fully met.

After hearing from the owner and speaking to the manager, they were most helpful in correcting any problems I had. Sam, the manager is very kind and willing to go the extra mile for what you need. I wish he had been the first person I dealt with when going there. Would use them again as so far all is good since they redid the bike. Thank you again Jeff & Sam for making it right.

Very nice and well kept store, great selection of bikes. Purchased a bike last week, Jeff was more than helpful and accommodating– took time over the weekend to respond to assembly questions I had (bike was shipped to Long Island residence). Jeff & Co make sure you walk away with positive experience, recommend.

Great place, I had a small problem with an order they placed, Sam stepped up to the plate and really took care of everything. Mistakes are bound to happen and its the most telling about the nature of a business in how they are taken care of. It seems to always be hopping on the weekends, and I would highly recommend.

They set my bike up for winter riding and ordered me some sweet new tires. And they weren’t jerks about my not-​so-​fancy winter commuter bike! Plus, Keith (I think that’s his name?) showed me how to set up a new tire, and wasn’t ever snarky or pretentious about anything. Good guys — they don’t really sell the type of bikes I’m interested in, but they seem like they’d order them and help me set up. Plus, it’s not too far out of he way of my commute.

I bought my bike here, and I really like the place. The salesman took a lot of time with me, had to order my size, did a lot of fitting and didn’t try too hard. A few days ago, I rode in the Tour De Bronx — clear, dry, wide path when woman in front of me goes down, I do as well. Though I managed another 30 miles as banged up as I was, I didn’t notice my front wheel was way out of true. I brought up to Jeff’s and told them what happened and had them work on it. When I picked it up, much to my surprise, no charge. I’d very strongly recommend this shop.

I am very pleased with the service. The staff is very helpful and attentive. E.g. I needed to put air in my tires and was rushing from work but got to the store 5 minutes after closing. Sam saw me, opened the door and helped me.

I have been in here about three times and worked with a different staff member each time. They have all those little things you need– tubes, butt butter, shot blocks, device batteries and then a lot of clothing and accessories. Each time I’ve gone in it has been for help with something related to my bike. They are so quick to get your bike up on the stand. I feel that the service is an excellent value. Next time I’m taking a little cash for tips (is that cheesy?) because these bike mechanics deserve it. They fixed things I didn’t know needed to be fixed (at no extra charge from what I came in for) and took time to explain a few things about my chain that were super important due to modifications I’d had done to my gears. If they had more selection of women’s clothing I’d give five stars. (Of course no one does and all bike gear for women is mostly ugly so it’s not their fault.)

Good range of bikes and helpful sales staff — until you make purchases that is.
Post sales support is lacking big time. I put over $ 2000 into a new bike from here and was expecting better support.
The is a great deal of variance in how much the sales staff care about their customers. Won’t call any individuals out here, but management should get feedback from their customers — I have no doubt they are losing referral and repeat business due to particular sales staff.

Emily, Keith and Adrian took their time listening to my needs and goals and helped me find the perfect bike (Canondale Evo) without ever pushing a sale. Jeff patiently went back on forth with me multiple times on email with several suggestions. As a novice to biking, my experience with the team was an education in itself.
I have been to other stores where someone either tried to palm off a slow moving model on me as a perfect ‘beginners bike’ or seemed totally disinterested in attending to someone who didn’t know their way around and probably wasn’t going to spend much $$$. Neither happened at Bicycles NYC as I always had someone check in on me within minutes of stepping inside, regardless of how busy the store was.
This is a classic example of how brick and mortar stores can maintain their competitive edge in an age of online retail.

Just moved to NYC from CA and my bike got somewhat perturbed in storage so I called Jeff’s at 5 minutes to 10 AM on a Monday morning and asked if I could bring my back in for a tune-​up. (I was walking the day before and had asked a bike rider if they knew a good bike shop near by; Jeff’s was their response.) I was at the store ten minutes after the call. Louis fixed my tire, corrected the weird brake snafu and did a tune-​up on the gears, etc. I was out of there and back riding within 15 minutes. The cost for this was $ 16 which I think was pretty cheap. (An inner tube was replaced.)
Yes, I’m a fan.

I chose this bike shop because it seemed like the kind of place that would help with future issues. And in fact it IS that kind of place. Their repair and service area is always busy and if you have a problem or question about your bike, you can just stop in and ask.
The bike was a Cannondale Quick 5 and I had it for a couple of years before selling it to a co-​worker.

Ask for Emily. She’s amazing and will help you and is very knowledgeable.

When service is so poor it’s hard to not write a review. I’m an avid cyclist and bike racer. I spend a significant amount of money on cycling products and service every year. So do my friends. I am the type of customer this establishment would want to create a positive experience for. Or maybe not…
I attempted a trip for the 3^rd time after two disappointing visits prior. This time, it started with a Thursday morning phone call upon shop opening. I asked if I could drop off my bike for a wash to prep for a Saturday race. I was told can’t drop off today, next available is on Tuesday. While a good clean and wash doesn’t take long, I get it. Ok fine, they are busy. Later that morning I went out for my ride and noticed something wrong with my shoe cleat. I needed a small phillips-​head screwdriver for literally a 15 second adjustment. I stopped in to ask to borrow the screwdriver.
Sans one lady and an employee helping her, the store was empty with no bikes in the mechanics racks and the mechanics sitting and chatting. I guess they didn’t want to wash a bike that morning. (Awesome.)
I asked for a small phillips-​head. Got a large one. Tried it and too large. It took 20 seconds. I asked for a smaller one. I was told this was the only screw driver that is available to ‘borrow.’ Mind you, again, mechanics sitting around and no other bikes in the stand being worked on. As I turned away in disbelief, he told me there was a hardware store across the street. (Sweet, thanks dude.)
I left and went to Sids. They knew me by name and smiled when I walked in. Handed me two different screwdrivers to let me make the quick adjustment. That is the type of service one deserves and owner’s should expect their employees provide.
Seems like others have been disappointed with Jeff’s Bicycles based on reading the reviews. While I appreciate the Owner’s responses and attempt at focusing on defending his business — maybe it’s time to reconsider and focus on growing the staff to create a positive experience for his customers.

Taking a stairs down from the sidewalk is a walk to hell to this sub sidewalk bike shop.
Overpriced on every bike item and not very friendly customer service. Came in for a basic bike part and it seemed like i the customer was bothering the store and they wouldn’t even bat a eye contact with me. After inquiring about the bike part i wanted to purchase the guy behind the register pawns me off to someone else who just asked the same guy to grab it off the wall. A sure sign that customer service is dead within these catacombs.
Even the mechanics are unfriendly. Not even a excuse me while trying to pass but just a slight nudge.
Not to mention items here are way overpriced and marked up at least 15%. Though i needed the item quickly and as a emergency i had to relinquish to purchase it here since it was the only shop in town that had it.
Would i steer friends here, no, would i come back, no. Emergency parts next time? I’m just going to have to bite down and wait patiently at another establishment.

Honestly, not the most pleasant experience. I purposely went to the shop to purchase pedals and to get my cleats properly mounted. I wasn’t thrilled about paying roughly a 40% markup for purchasing at a brick and mortar store compared to buying online, but I understand this is New York and everything is overpriced. After a ride I went to adjust the cleat positioning only to realize that they did not install a washer on one of my cleats. I’m glad I noticed this and that I did not have an issue 30 miles from my house, but seriously how could someone miss that there are 3 washers in the box and that all three need to be mounted.
I went to the store with my receipt and without the shoe, and explained that I was missing a washer and felt belittled when explaining what I needed. The exact quote from the person that helped me was «I’m going to take your word on this, I don’t believe one of my guys would make this mistake.»
I’m sooo sorry for the inconvenience that I paid your ridiculous in store price only to come back and need a part which I should have originally been provided with. Pretty sure a steel washer would cost the shop about .10 cents to replace, but he made me feel like I was asking for a kidney.
