On my short visit to New York, I stumbled across a nice Thai place called Siam inn blue chili. Figured I’d give it a try and I’m surely glad I did! I ordered the Tom yum goong soup and pad see ew chicken. Both were fabulous but if only if they could have made it spicier… most Thai places I’ve been can’t do it but I figured since the chefs and owners here are legit Thai they would be able to. Great otherwise though definitely worth coming back. Service was great as well.

Blue Chili I’m sorry to do this, but you lose a star. Ordered their lunch special today and my food was cold. Ok, maybe it took me a few minutes too long to come down to get it, but by no means was it a long enough time for it to get cold. You are like 3 blocks from my office and its not even cold out today. Regardless, the curry puff was still tasty as always and the chicken pad see-ew was jam packed with chicken.

Well, after many years of missing Siam Inn I decided to try Blue Chili, and it was great to feel ‘back at home’ with the flaky curry puffs and tasty pad thai. Also, the prices are so reasonable, I can’t believe you can get an entrée for under $ 12. I will need to return to try my other favorites, Gai Yang and the Grilled Salmon. I do miss the tacky feel of the old place, however. I am one for nostalgia… This is my favorite Thai in NY

The food was tasty but the service was subpar. Our table was wobbly though she fixed it after 20 minutes. The waitress seemed disinterested and we felt rushed though it was not a particularly busy night. Each course she kept taking plates away while i was still eating. JUSTRELAX. I assure you, this place is not that busy to be rushing practically your only table like that. We had sapporo beer tower that could have been filled more, and less foamy for 40 bucks. I completely blame my coworker for that awful buy. Never trust a blonde to do beer math. In no way shape or form was that better than alacarte beers. We had the appetizer sampler for two which was amazing. The pad thai is to die for as well as the drunken noodles. The crème brûlée was fantastic to the point where we fought over it. Overall the price was a bit higher than Room Service, atmosphere not as nice and the waitress stunk. The food was good though. So 3 stars. Honestly, just man up and walk down a few blocks and go to Room Service. PS still finishing the beer tower while typing this…

I was traveling around Mid town looking for a spot to eat with my friend and we both figured it wouldn’t hurt to try Blue Chili. The décor was different, not something we would expect for a Thai/Japanese place but interesting still. Had the pork bun as an appetizer and it was an actual pork shoulder or pork belly slice I think in a steamed white bun. It was really good and tender. It was nothing like the pork buns you get in chinatown but pricey for 1 pork bun only. Meanwhile in Chinatown I could’ve gotten 6 of them for the same price probably. Never underestimate the value of a buck in Chinatown. Entrees were good, fresh, quality ingredients prepared in each of the dishes. I am tempted to try their happy hour special.

This is my go-to place in the theater district. It used to be 2 separate places, but they’ve since merged into one and as a result they have a really diverse menu. The appetizers are all great, especially the stuffed mushroom and the lobster bisque. For the main course, I’ve been stuck on the Massaman Shrimp — enormous shrimp in massaman curry with avocados and chestnuts.

If you are in the mood for good Thai/Japenese food in a modern setting in the theater district definitely check this place out. I’ve been several times throughout the years(usually before taking in a show — distinctly remember before seeing Wicked and Phantom in case anyone cares) and have always enjoyed it. One of the first things you might notice is the lighting. There are LED matricies lighting the place. They change colours varying depending on what color lights are on. It usually makes for a real nice atmosphere when bounding off of the white tile, and if you are a geek like me you will appreciate it. I usually get the Yakisoba Noodles, but the sushi and sashimi is also very good(and very well priced). Also you must try the fried ice cream if you go — it is unbelievable.

Having been to Siam Inn several years ago I was excited to visit for lunch while visiting NYC. Unfortunately, Blue Chili did not live up to my memories of Siam Inn. Walked in at 11:30 am and was the only one there — I ordered one of the lunch specials — Tom Yum soup and Drunken Chicken noodles. Since I was the only one there for some time, I was surprised it took a really long time to get my food. I didn’t walk out the door until nearly 12:30! The food was«ok» but nothing to write home about. Definitely not the dining experience I’d had at the old Siam Inn. The décor did not bother me except for when it was green which was a little disconcerting as it made soup a really odd color. Definitely not a good choice in a restaurant!

Kind of a weird mix of Thai/Japanese/modern but the food is good. I recommend the roasted duck noodles. The Tom Yum soup was nice on a day when I had a headcold. Music is a little loud for my comfort. Service is fast making it a good lunch spot. Staff is hot, too.

Great sushi at a great price with a constantly changing and colorful atmosphere. Be sure to try the Romeo and Juliet roll as well as steamed Thai dumplings.

The décor is weird. Having lunch in midtown with the lights turning from green to blue to yellow shining on your sushi is a little odd. However, there is nothing odd, or less than delightful, about being able to order the following for lunch, all for like 14 bucks-miso, salad, 4 pieces of cali roll, 4 pieces of sashimi, little delish multi colored rice tower, AND choice of yellow curry duck or green curry salmon. Curry and sushi-best of both worlds. And you get icecream, though I always go with, and would likely sell my first born for if I were put in the predicament, the sticky green tea rice and red bean dessert. Heaven=layer of warm green tea sticky rice topped with layer of warm sweet red beans topped with a huge scoop of vanilla bean icecream and drizzles of mango and strawberry sauces. OMG. I get tears in my eyes just thinking about it. Been there for dinner too, where I order off the menu and its a bit pricier. The Drunken Noodles with beef and the Massaman Curry(w roasted chestnuts and big chunks of avo) are great. Wouldn’t recommend the veggie dumplings-they are like all spinach and kinda bland.

This place is rubbish — 1.5÷5. The only reason it gets the extra 0.5 is because they didn’t create a fuss while charging 6 different cards. The décor is hideous with neon lights(with changing colors mind you) flashing in your face. Why would you put neon lights in any eating establishment? My thai iced coffee was sweet enough to make me diabetic. I love thai iced coffee, but I could not take more than two sips. My tofu in basil sauce was really salty and the tofu itself was very tough and flavorless. The chili chicken had no chilies and was sweet, and the chicken pad see ew was average, but at least edible. We weren’t brave enough to try the dessert, but I would put my money on it being salty. I smacked my friend for suggesting Blue Chili drank a couple beers to bring a good taste back to my mouth, and went for the 12:30 am show of «I love you, man» which made it all better!

I had the soft shell crab appetizer… it was yummy! The chili sauce with the avocado and mango(?) pieces complimented the dish very well. I would highly recommend this dish! As for the rest… nothing in the Thai section of the menu sounded that great, so I had sushi. The sushi was ok. nothing spectacular. I would definitely go back for the soft shell crab though.

My friend and I were looking for a place to eat. We eventually got lazy and went for Blue Chili, ridiculously nearby. Luckily for us, it wasn’t crowded. Their interior is attractive and sleek, with slowly rotating lights that change the restaurant’s color during the course of your meal. It’s slightly disorienting, as your food changes color too(the hues are not-so-subtle). Their playlist is pretty chill(lounge music), and occasionally lapses into trance. Upstairs we noticed a DJ booth, so they might vary it up on other, busier, nights. Service(John and others) was friendly and accomodating, keeping our waters filled. A waitress asked about my camera, which I found amusing. Their pan-Asian menu covers a lot of Thai(fusion) and Japanese dishes, but no obvious Vietnamese ones. Food was good, came quickly, and was presented artistically. We shared: — complimentary small Thai pancakes that were amusing. — peking duck rolls($ 7; roasted duck, cucumber, scallion, and mandarin pancake) that weren’t amazing(we’ve been spoiled by the Peking Duck House). — Malaysian crepes($ 7; potato, chicken, onion, curry powder, and seasoning herbs) were delicious: the wraps were solid and the curry sauce surprisingly spicy. I would definitely get them again — I’m getting hungry writing this! — the Bluechili pan fried red snapper($ 18: with pineapple, lychee, shallot, roasted tomato, ginger, and a red curry sauce) was a bit sweet considering the fruits in it. Unfortunately the snapper wasn’t evenly cooked; the bottom was somewhat lukewarm. — for dessert, we shared a trio(red bean, green tea, and vanilla) of fried ice cream scoops. I’m always a fan of ice cream, and these satisfied(red was a little plain). We had a good time, enjoyed the pleasant service and enjoyed the food overall. Prices are a smidge higher than I’d like, but I’d return to Blue Chili at some point. I’d certainly return for drinks! Worth a try.

I love the pad thai here — it’s not authentic, it’s just damn good. So good, I often tell my friends it’s gotta have some crack in it. Other than the great pad thai(did I mention you can get scallop pad thai??), nothing here was very remarkable. The dinner crowd is an interesting mix, they’re generally older, not tourists, not the pre-show crowd, but something not neighborhoody about them. I can’t put my finger on it, but they don’t fit with the attempted trendy feel of the restaurant. Still, I’d go back for the pad thai.

This is a place that tries to make it trendy by having lights that change the room’s mood throughout the night. From calm-blue to murderous-red I wasn’t sure how I would feel by the time my meal was made. The dishes they offer range from japanese to thai. That’s right, they offer sushi & sashimi there. I ordered a Pad thai. the bill =$ 11.92 for Pad Thai. $ 11.92, damn. I get home and start chowing down. There is something very addictive about their Pad thai. It’s got a sticky feel to the noodles(which I personally love). I wonder if they soak the noodles in raw eggs before hand. Sorry, I lost my train of thought… oh yes, the dish was one of the best pad thai’s I’ve ever had. period. The portion was very large too which all in all makes up for the higher than normal cost. Since then, I’ve gone back several times. I want to try other dishes, but that pad thai is just very seductive. If I try something else, I’ll definitely add it here.

This place is a nice spot to go to if you plan on watching a show at the Gershwin Theater. This is where we ate before we saw Wicked on our second night out in NY. It’s easy to make reservations. So the food is half thai and half japanese… an interesting mix. Very affordable prices. The service we received was kinda bad. The food took a long time apart from each other to come. Good thing my bf and i were sharing or else he’d be done with hsi entrée and my sushi was still taking forever to come! sushi quality was good… the noodle we tried was also really yummy. cool lights!

All that glitters is not always gold. Sometimes all that glitters is Thai Basil Chicken at Blue Chili. It was the perfect antidote for Monday and to atone in style for all my sins from last week(and there were quite a few). Spicy, flavorful, and fun is what Monday is all about. Sure, I could have gone to Pam Real or Pongsri for really good Thai… but I wanted a cool-water, modern atmosphere… pleasant service… and decent pan Asian food. Blue Chili hit the spot. Didn’t the owner of Blue Chili have a hostile takeover of his other restaurant Siam Inn? I forget the story… No matter, my friend and I did our own leveraged buy out of the spicy dumplings and dragon rolls. Then, I was skillfully using my chopsticks to snatch and pop the moist and tasty Thai basil chicken slices in my mouth… one after another… mini mushrooms too… like Nicole Ritchie on an eating binge(was that a bad thing to say?). My friend had many different kinds of rolls stuffed with many different kinds of fish… I wasn’t really paying attention. I had my own bliss to deal with. I’ll be back again to Blue Chili… probably on a Monday.

Siam Inn and Blue Chili are now one! Same owners, now condensed into one space. The mod look is kind of crazy — interesting, but the different colors emanating from the light boxes(blue, green, purple, orange) tend to colour the food, which is not always appetizing. Portions are huge and served in what look a bit like skillets. We had a Thai standard — the pad thai noodle dish with shrimp — but I really would have preferred pad see ew. Unfortunately it wasn’t on the menu! Neither were crispy spring rolls, which I know are probably not authentically Thai, but all the same, I love them. Instead we had some vegetable steamed dumplings, which were delicious, but could have benefitted from a sauce in which to dip them. Our chestnut chicken dish was also very interesting, although I think I would have liked it more had there been more of a sauce and the chestnuts had been sliced instead of being served whole. Pretty decent Thai but I wouldn’t travel to go there — if it’s around the corner, great, but not worth a trek!
