This place is really wonderful. Most of the food tastes great, and I think the prices are appropriate. My one warning would be that things tend to be on the spicier side — and I love spicy food. The outdoor garden is one of the best I’ve been to in NYC. I’d highly recommend the skirt steak, the guacamole(really chunky, mmm) and the tomato soup. They have sauteed vegetables as a side that are amazing, but Very spicy.

I’m only reviewing the happy hour aspect of this joint. Dangerous. The sangrias, both red and white(I preferred the latter), are dangerous and delicious. The tequila shots are dangerous and smooth. Whoa, mami, this is the only place in the city where the bartender had to cut me and my company off! Have fun, but be careful. This place is DANGEROUS.

It was a cold & windy Saturday evening in May… Yes, May! My friend and I happened to be in the area and looking for some good olé Mexican food to indulge in. Of course, I pulled out my handy dandy Unilocal mobile app to look for something in the area that fit the description. And that’s the story of how I ended up in Café Friday. We walked in and asked the hostess for a table for two. She immediately asked us if we had reservations, which took us aback a bit. I don’t think I’ve been to a Mexican restaurant that was as exclusive as Café Frida before. Luckily, there was a space for two at the bar, which we took advantage of. To our misfortune, that spot was by the kitchen area where all the meats were grilled that was facing us patrons. The heat was intense at times. Let me get onto the review before I continue rambling. — Appetizer: Salsa and chips aren’t complimentary at this spot. My friend and I ordered the guacamole, which most people recommended on the app. We were not disappointed at all! It was just as great as everyone mentioned. The chips weren’t hot and fresh, but they weren’t stale either. — Drinks: One word… chelada! It’s this lemon juice and beer concoction which is like having a fiesta inside my mouth. Seriously, it was really good. For the beer drinkers out there, I recommend you getting one of these. Definitely beats a corona with lime! — Food: I felt as though some options on the menu were overpriced, however, and I felt that my choices became limited. Especially, after reading the tacos were a bit expensive and not that filling. Now this is where things went a bit sour. I had the enchiladas suizas, which I thought were just okay. It wasn’t horrible, but it wasn’t something I would go back and order EVER again. As a side I had an order of spicy fries, which were more full of garlic than any actual spice. I’m a girl who likes her heat so I was disappointed by the mislabeling of these fries on the menu. My friend ordered a skirt steak, which was really good. I wish I would’ve ordered that instead. — Service: Our bartender was great! He was very charming and joked around with us in Spanish. He also made sure we had a drink in our hands whenever we were running low.
