Encore Consignment

I didn’t buy anything here, but I’ve always noticed it when I visit the Met. The ladies are very nice and there is a large selection if designer things but the place is very messy with a smelly dog roaming around. Not very elegant at all…

Where do I begin? The place WAS a great consignment back in the day but now it’s a dump! When you first walk up it smells like mold. As soon as you hit the top of the stairs the smell of wet dog is in the air, then you realize they have a 8 yr old pitbull greet you at the entrance. That place looks dingy, communal fitting rooms? Old carpets, dirty mirrors, no kind of décor or visuals. There’s an Asian woman that sits in the front with her dog and eats the whole time. And you wonder how she keeps her job? She’s the owners girlfriend and sole reason this store looks the way it does! What a shame, it has the potential to be a great store but it’s crashing, crashing fast! Don’t waste your time!

Out of all the places on the upper east side for Consignment, this place has items in the best condition. Every time I go there, the staff is extremely welcoming and friendly. Encore has a friendly shopping atmosphere that made me wanting to come back and shop there again.

Worst costumer service experience ever. I love going to consignment stores and finding on of a kind items. This place had outdated items, the clothes were old and dusty and smelled musty. I tried on a few articles of clothing– mind you no one helped me while I was browsing or even when I was holding a couple of items. Poor customer service, run down shop, and dingy store. I’m an experienced stylist and fashionista– I do NOT recommend encore.

Don’t let the older reviews scare you off. This shop Is under new management. My experience here was FABULOUS.
The store is two floors. The shoes, which I came for, were located on the second floor. Everything was organized by size and overseen by a wonderful employee, named Madena.
I came in on a bit of a mission. I was on the hunt for Manolo or Loubuitons in a neutral color, low to mid height heel. since I was unsure of my size in premium designer footwear she first helped me determine the best fit. Then she helped me sort through and pick out a pair
I settled on a pair of like new silver Strappy Manolo kitten heels for, get this $ 135. (Later in the day I saw the exact same pair at a different resale shop priced at $ 285)
She let me keep them on my feet as I shopped the rest of the floor, so I could be sure they fit just right. Once I was sure, I requested a Manolo box and one of the employees ransacked the supply room to grab me the last one.
The manager wrapped up my shoes with great care. Being sure to stuff enough tissue paper in the shoe to support to straps by the toe.
I spent the entire day consignment shopping at designer resale stores. This was my first stop, and favorite of the day.
When it comes to price on designer shoes you WILL NOT find cheaper like new condition shoes

Men are not allowed in the store basically. I was scolded by the angry counterperson. I shop here with friends and send people here and have spent a lot of money here and told the woman I will never be back (because I am clearly not allowed).

Wow, they don’t even answer the phone, nor do they have an answering machine.
Trying to call them to find out about their goods on Ebay is an absolute waste of time, because they don’t even answer potential buyer’s questions. I wouldn’t buy from these people, ever.

This store, even though it’s one of the oldest in the nation doing designer consignment, sits amidst a sea of stores doing the same thing. It’s also on the second floor, so unless you’re looking for it or already on the row of similar consignment stores, you may not notice it. But do make the trip. Some of their pieces are great deals. I got my wedding dress here, a vintage Oscar de la Renta cocktail dress. When I had an issue with the attitude of one clerk, Greg Selig, the owner, called me to apologize for her, and worked with me to make me feel comfortable about coming back to the store. I see on Unilocal that he’s been posting that the rude salespeople are no longer there. I certainly hope this is true, because his prices and clothes are beautiful and I’ll never forget that this is where I got my wedding dress.

Quality of stuff was pretty poor. They seem to take anything, no matter how worn it is. The place itself could use a good cleaning; why would I buy Chanel at a place that is dirtier than H&M?

It was raining and I looked like a wet rat.
I don’t think that necessarily influenced the staff but I was having a hard enough time sloshing through the rain to have to make my way through their condescension.

This store had really nice clothes but I didn’t think they were at a bargain price. I know they r designer clothes but they r used.

One word– rude. Thanks, but there are lots of places in nyc to second hand shop. I don’t need your store.

Great selection! Part for skirts (chanel and dresses!). Prices are good too.
The staff is rude and indifferent, however. They dont seem to love what they do or what they sell. They create an unfriendly, high school environment, checking you out, gossipin etc. I came in last month with a well known news celebrity-​New anchor, sans makeup, and they treated us both rudely.
If you go, just say hello, and browse on your own. The place is a gem: They should try to secure better staff.

Very poor customer service and extremely rude staff.

Cashier was friendly. The stuff that is REALLY on sale is in the dressing room. Found a wool Theory blazer for $ 13. Can’t beat that! Otherwise not as much selection as I thought there would be. Most of it only an old woman would wear.

These upper east side consignment shops are amazing! Why wasn’t I told? Great selection of shoes and bags at the prices they ought to be in the first place.

Oy vey. Staff was rude, rude rude. Yes I am a 23 year old wearing sweat pants (I decided to run in after a gym session) but that doesn’t mean I don’t have good taste or the bank account to enjoy your store.
Being made to feel not good enough aside, the selection was so-​so. One major pro was that the quality of most goods was better than your average consignment shops stock, and you can tell that the staff is selective about what types of items are to be sold. The bottom floor (but not the ground floor) is ALL clothes with a little jewelry and a few purses, some of which is very high end. The higher floor is a lot of shoes, accessories, and jewelry with a couple more racks of clothing. Prices vary from being totally reasonable to obviously overpriced but the shoe and jewelry selection is worth checking out.
I left empty handed after having spent a good amount of time searching through their wares. I would go again (perhaps it’s a hit or miss type of place), but I’ll be sure to be more appropriately dressed this time!

I went in here on a weekday afternoon, fearing I may be the only person inside and that I’d be scrutinized– much to my pleasure it had a few other people browsing and the staff overall were laid back (although one woman snarked at me when I was picking something up that I’d knocked over because she thought I was looking in a place I shouldn’t)
They had a ton of great stuff– almost a little overwhelming. I found a great Marc Jacobs dress for cheap and they had a ton of cute shoes that I passed on… for now. It was a great stop and I’m sure to head back there again. 4 stars because of the snarky woman and it is a bit overwhelmingly set up.

I remember back to 3^rd grade when I was but a wee Upper East Sider attending PS 6 and I was the only one in my class who spelled Encore correctly. Why? Because my Mom used to drag me to this place every weekend to shop and I learned the name. This place is great, it’s all designer clothing that is second hand or never worn received from some of the wealthiest UES socialites around. Chanel, Dior, etc all for great prices!
